Morel travel guide and discussion

#worthitornot People often chase Jungfraujoch crowds, but the walk from Bettmerhorn down to the Aletsch Forest glacier garden nature trail is, in my opinion, the most intimate way to experience the UNESCO Great Aletsch Glacier. I took the aerial cableway from Bettmeralp to Bettmerhorn (CHF 27 round trip with the local pass discount; half-fare card accepted). From the Bettmerhorn viewpoint (2,647 m), you see the entire 23 km ice river flowing toward the Rhône Valley. Instead of lingering only at the terrace, I followed the signed “Gletschergarten” theme trail—a 4 km downhill hike with 400 m descent to the forest edge. The first kilometer is alpine scree with yellow gentian flowers and marmots whistling from boulders. Midway, the trail enters the former glacier forefield, now dotted with glacial erratic boulders the size of cars. Wooden boards explain how the ice retreated over 150 years. The “glacier garden” proper is a series of potholes—cylindrical holes drilled by meltwater vortexes into bedrock, exposed after the ice vanished. It’s surreal to touch polished rock shaped by ancient pressure. I made a mistake: wearing only trail runners. The last 1.5 km into the Aletsch Forest is rooty and slippery from snowmelt; hiking boots saved my ankles. Pack water—there’s none on the scree—and cash for the Bettmeralp bakery (cards sometimes fail on stormy days). Start by 9:30 am; afternoon clouds often swallow the view. For me, this trail is worth itbecause it connects grand spectacle with tiny geological details. Question for you: would you rather spend an extra CHF 50 to ride Jungfraujoch’s elevators, or invest two hours walking through this living climate archive?

#itinerarycheck I reached Bettmerhorn the way most people don’t bother to: on foot from Bettmeralp through the Great Aletsch Forest, not just by hopping the gondola and calling it a viewpoint. From Betten valley station (train from Brig on the Matterhorn–Gotthard line) I took the cable car to car-free Bettmeralp, then walked east past Bettmersee, through larch and Swiss stone-pine forest, up to Schönbiel and Hohbalm, and finally onto the rocky shoulder below the Bettmerhorn summit platform. The forest section is the part everyone skips, and it’s the best part—cool shade, grazing cows with bells, then suddenly the tree line breaks and the whole 23 km curve of the Aletsch Glacier drops away beneath you. Cable car Bettmeralp–Bettmerhorn one-way in 2026 was around CHF 15.60 if you already hold a valid mountain pass; full return from the valley runs closer to CHF 55. Swiss Travel Pass covers the train but only partially discounts the cable cars, so check the Aletsch Arena combined ticket before you buy piecemeal. Card payments everywhere; carry CHF coins only for public WCs. The final 30-minute climb from the gondola top to the Bettmerhorn summit cross is wired with cables and wooden steps—not a via ferrata, but not flip-flops either. I saw two people turned back in trainers because the rock was slick from overnight dew. Go before 10:00; by 13:00 the valley funnels cloud up and the Valais 4000ers vanish. September was quieter and the low sun lit the ice a dirty gold that photographed better than the postcard blue of July. Biggest mistake I made: trusting the village forecast. Bettmerhorn at 2,872 m sat in fog while Betten baked at 28 °C. Use the specific summit webcam, not the valley app. Also, the glacier trimlines on the side walls are now metres above the ice—stand on the platform, look left at the rock, then down at the tongue, and you’ll understand the retreat faster than any climate panel. The free “Glacier World” exhibit by the restaurant is worth 20 minutes. Water, wind layer, and closed shoes are non-negotiable even in August.

#OverseasTravel #Switzerland Travel Cheese fondue is one of the famous dishes in Switzerland🧀️ I heard a local recommendation to come to the Restaurant Taverne inside Hotel Interlaken to eat cheese fondue😋 People here usually eat one cheese fondue, but we want to try more food, so we ordered one to share🙆🏻‍♀️ A cheese fondue included a row of bread🍞, pickles, potatoes son and a fondue ingredients 😍 The cheese fondue is tastier than I imagined! The cheese is indeed very rich and savory, and there is also a very strong alcohol flavor 👍🏻👍🏻 I like the row of pieces of bread, crispy dipped in cheese is very addictive! 。 In addition to Cheese fondue, I also tried several main courses🍴salmon filet🐟 Great! The salmon is slightly crispy but the fish is tender and juicy, even the accompanying white asparagus is very crispy and delicious🤤 The slow-cooked pork belly and pulled pork burger🍔 are worth a try! It's not necessarily about eating cheese fondue😆 Restaurant Taverne@Switzerland 📍Höheweg 74 Erdgeschoss, 3800 Interlaken, Switzerland 💰Price: 1. Classic Alp cheese fondue CHF26 2.
