It was my first trip to Tanzania. From the airport, my family went to Arusha, while I headed to Moshi as I wanted to hike Kilimanjaro. Hans and the driver picked me up at the airport and brought me to the hotel. We went on a hike to a stunning waterfall, which included visiting a school. Additionally, we stopped at a community center where I purchased authentic Tanzanian coffee. The day of the hike was delightful, and Hans was patient throughout. Traveling solo, I felt completely safe. I highly recommend his company and believe you won’t be disappointed.

We went on a safari trip with our guide Samwel through Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and onward to Moshi. He was an excellent guide, ensuring we saw everything we hoped for and locating any animals we wanted to spot. He got us to the animals crossing the Mara River just two minutes before they moved, placing us right among elephants and lions, which were definite highlights. Never before had we been greeted so frequently on vacation as we were in Tanzania. We enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing trip with Ombeni. We explored the beauty of Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, and ended at Little Okavango. From there, we traveled to Mwanza. Opting against a beach vacation, we decided to return to Arusha overland with Ombeni, allowing us to capture a diverse impression of Tanzania’s landscape and culture. Well, let's move on to the next African country, the most famous among Russian tourists, and that's Tanzania 🇹🇿. So I arrived at Kilimanjaro Airport 🛩️, in the city of Moshi. Moshi is a charming and very atmospheric city in northern Tanzania, located right at the foot of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. While neighboring Arusha is a noisy and chaotic safari capital, Moshi is considered the cleanest, greenest, and most tranquil city in the country. A relaxed atmosphere reigns here, the smell of freshly roasted coffee permeates the air, and in the mornings, the snow-capped peak of the Roof of Africa peeks through the clouds. What makes Moshi so popular? 1. The main gateway to Kilimanjaro: This is where most expeditions to Africa's highest peak (5,895 m) begin. The entire city exudes a mountaineering spirit: the streets are filled with fit people with backpacks, and bars are filled with discussions about altitude and mountain sickness. 2. The coffee capital of Tanzania The fertile volcanic slopes around Moshi grow the country's best Arabica coffee. The city literally thrives on the coffee industry. 3. The culture of the Chagga tribe This is one of the most developed and wealthiest ethnic groups in Tanzania. The village of Materini is located just 15 km from Moshi, at an altitude of approximately 2,500 meters. Waterfall 🌊 A beautiful 80-meter waterfall, hidden in lush green jungle. The road to it passes through banana and coffee plantations. You can swim in the waterfall (the water is invigorating!). Coffee Interactive Local guides from the Chagga tribe will demonstrate the entire coffee-making process. Tourists themselves husk the beans, roast them over charcoal, and grind them in a huge mortar, accompanied by traditional Chagga songs and dances. At the end, you'll drink the freshest coffee of your life. 2. Chemka Hot Springs An oasis in the middle of a semi-desert plain about an hour's drive from Moshi. A natural geothermal pool with crystal-clear turquoise water, surrounded by giant ficus trees. The water here isn't hot, but pleasantly warm (around 26°C). There are zip lines suspended from the trees, from which you can jump into the water. Small Garra Rufa fish live in the water, and they give you a free foot scrub (like in a spa). 3. Lake Chala A unique crater lake on the border of Tanzania and Kenya. The lake is surrounded by steep rocky cliffs up to 100 meters high, and the color of the water changes from deep blue to turquoise depending on the season. You can rent a kayak here and paddle in complete silence, admiring Kilimanjaro. 4. Rau Forest Reserve A forest area right on the outskirts of the city. It's home to rare black-and-white colobus monkeys (monkeys with luxurious tails) and blue monkeys. I managed to see both in this forest. The village of Moshi is a regular stop for tourists before climbing. Since I arrived the day before the hike, I had a day to explore the area. I recommend: 1. Materuni Waterfall. Take a tuk-tuk and go on your own. Entry costs around 10,000 local currency. Tours cost between $100-200. Hiking is easy and accessible. The trail to the waterfall is clear and easy to find. Especially since it's always crowded with tourists. The water in the waterfall is warm—I recommend taking a dip. 2. Rent a bike and ride around the village. 3. Stroll the local streets. 4. Fruit is inexpensive and delicious. I bought it at the local markets. 5. Two very modern hotels in the center (Kibo and Kilimanjaro). There are plenty of options near the village.
