#easytravelpost Teriberka is 120 km NE of Murmansk on the Barents Sea, a 1523 fishing village made famous by 《Leviathan》 (2014), with a ship cemetery, dragon-egg beach, and Battery Waterfall dropping into the ocean. I took the Murmansk→Teriberka bus (₽611, 4 hrs, 1/day at 08:00), arrived 12:00, walked the lower village at 06:30 next day. The cliff moss is the Battery Waterfall cut: Fissidens and Sphagnum in the seep where the waterfall freezes half the year, Hylocomium on the turf house ruins (old Pomor dwellings), and the cliff above the ship cemetery has Racomitrium on the wind face—Barents Sea moss is starved, silver, glowing only in the 02:00 midnight-sun low light. I sat by the waterfall at 07:00, the moss ice-edged even in July, a glaucous gull on the wreck, the sea flat to Svalbard. Teriberka has 2 guesthouses (₽2,500/night), cash preferred, one shop. Mistake: I took the 08:00 bus back same day and saw nothing—sleep over, the dawn is the only quiet hour; tour vans hit at 11:00. Another: I drove a 2WD rental in October and the tundra road was a greasy bog; summer bus or 4×4. Would you bus Teriberka for the waterfall-moss Barents dawn at 07:00 and sleep in the village, or do it as a Murmansk day-tour and miss the ship-cemetery silence?

Imagine finishing dinner, looking outside, and realizing the sun still hasn’t gone down. Welcome to northern Russia. During summer, cities such as St. Petersburg, Murmansk, and regions above the Arctic Circle experience some of the longest daylight hours on Earth. In St. Petersburg: 🌇 Sunsets can happen close to midnight. 🌅 Sunrise returns only a few hours later. In Murmansk: ☀️ The sun may not set at all for weeks. Locals go kayaking at midnight. Children play outside late into the evening. Tourists check their watches because their brains refuse to believe the time. It’s one of those experiences that photographs never fully capture. Your body says bedtime. The sky says afternoon. #russia #whitenights #midnightsun #saintpetersburg #murmansk #travelrussia #visitrussia #tripcom

Sisters! Just returned from Russia a week ago, and my soul is still drifting under the moonlight of Red Square 🌙 This Eurasian giant has an unbelievably strong aftereffect! 🌍 Why must you go in July or August? Parts of Europe have daily average temperatures of 15–25℃, not hot or humid! St. Petersburg welcomes the white nights season, with the sky still bright at midnight, making the whole city gentle and dreamy. Lake Baikal’s water is clear and emerald green, with lush vegetation. Plus, Chinese citizens have visa-free entry for 30 days (until September 14, 2026)! 📸 Highlights and photo spots Moscow — Red Square shows two worlds day and night. During the day, see the colorful onion domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral; at night, the lights make it look like a fairy tale. The Kremlin’s armory holds countless treasures. The metro stations themselves are attractions—photos at Komsomolskaya and Mayakovskaya stations look better than above ground. St. Petersburg — The Winter Palace is one of the world’s top four museums, with original Da Vinci works and the Peacock Clock. Spend at least 5–6 hours here. The Summer Palace has fountains by the Baltic Sea. The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood has mosaics so beautiful they take your breath away. A Neva River cruise is a must during the white nights. Nevsky Prospect in the early morning or evening is perfect for vintage-style photos. Lake Baikal — The blue eye of Siberia has crystal-clear blue water in summer. Hike around the lake or take a boat tour. At Listvyanka town’s fish market, try fresh smoked salmon. Golden Ring towns — Suzdal is a living open-air museum with summer flower fields and ancient churches. In Sergiyev Posad, visit the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. Murmansk (inside the Arctic Circle) — In summer, the sun barely sets, so you can take photos outside even at midnight! 🍜 Food recommendations ▪ Borscht — sour, sweet, and rich, super appetizing, perfect with rye bread ▪ Shashlik — Russian-style large skewers with generous portions ▪ Blini with caviar — traditional Russian thin pancakes with premium caviar ▪ Lake Baikal fish soup — milky white broth that’s incredibly fresh ▪ Scenic dining — RUSKI in Moscow offers skyline views from a high-rise 🚄 Travel tips Moscow ↔ St. Petersburg Sapsan high-speed train takes 4 hours direct, saving the hassle of airport waiting. Spend 3–4 days in Moscow and 3–4 days in St. Petersburg. You can cover the highlights in 7–10 days total. 💡 Tips ▪ Payment: Visa and MasterCard mostly don’t work, cash in rubles is most reliable ▪ Language: English is rarely spoken, download an offline Russian translator ▪ Dress code: No bare shoulders or knees in churches, carry a light shawl; dress in layers—light windbreaker + long sleeves + long skirt ▪ Tickets: Buy Winter Palace and Kremlin tickets online in advance to skip lines ▪ Accommodation: Hotels are tight in peak season, book months ahead, prioritize city center stays ▪ Signal: Mobile location services are restricted in some city centers ▪ Visa-free: Stay no longer than 30 days. Prepare return flight and hotel booking confirmation for entry

#arrivalguide Visiting Franz Josef Land is a logistical marathon, only accessible via specialized icebreaker cruises departing from Murmansk. After a five-day sail north, we reached Hayes Island (Ostrov Gaysa). All visitors must surrender their passports to the expedition leader for border control checks at the Russian Arctic National Park headquarters. The landing at Rubini Rock involved a Zodiac inflatable boat ride through slushy pack ice. Our guide briefed us on "staging": we stood on the rubber boat’s pontoons while it nudged against the ice foot of the basalt stack. Rubini Rock is a towering monolith of hexagonal columns, looking like a giant pipe organ. The scale is humbling; I craned my neck to see the top 100 meters up. We spotted ivory gulls nesting in the crevices. A strict rule here is "zero footprint": you cannot leave the immediate landing zone, and absolutely no sitting on vegetation—what little exists takes decades to recover. I made the mistake of wearing thin gloves; handling the cold metal of the Zodiac’s rope in -2°C water quickly numbed my fingers. Bring chemical hand warmers. Photography is challenging; the contrast between the dark basalt and the bright ice creates extreme dynamic range issues. The silence here is profound, broken only by the occasional crack of glacial ice. Discussion: Is the environmental impact of these few dozen tourist landings per year justified by the global awareness they create for Arctic conservation?

Forget the Northern Lights! What happens here in the summer will make your heart skip a beat... ❤️ I live in the North, and I know for a fact: visiting the Murmansk region in the summer isn't just a clever travel hack; it's pure magic you won't find anywhere else. If you thought people only came here for the freezing cold and the auroras, you're missing out on the best part! My secret starting point: the "Laplandia" hotel complex in the town of Murmashi. It's just 5 minutes from the airport, and suddenly you're in a cozy spot right in the middle of the forest. This is where I catch my breath after a flight, sip some tea, and plan my itineraries. It's the ultimate base camp for adventures! 🏡🌲 · -- 10 reasons why you ABSOLUTELY need to be here this summer: ☀️ 1. The sun doesn't set for 2 whole months! From May 22nd to July 22nd, it's the Polar Day. Just imagine: you're strolling through Teriberka at 2 AM, and it's as bright as day outside. This feeling of endless summer is simply fantastic! 🌸 2. The tundra is in full bloom Forget about gray, dull moss. In June and July, the tundra transforms into a lush green carpet dotted with vibrant polar flowers. I take hundreds of photos every single time, and no two are ever the same. 🌊 3. Teriberka is a place of power A rocky beach, the Barents Sea, a waterfall plunging straight into the ocean, and the ship graveyard. The views will literally take your breath away. I stood there and cried because it was so beautiful—no joke! 🐋 4. Whale watching Humpback whales swim into these waters during the summer. We watched them breaching out of the water, and it beats any show you'll ever see. Sure, a sighting isn't 100% guaranteed, but the thrill and excitement totally are! 🚢 5. The Icebreaker "Lenin" is a time machine Step inside, and you're surrounded by 1960s interiors: the cabins, the radio room. It doesn't feel like a museum; it's the living history of Arctic expeditions. You definitely have to snap a photo at the helm! 🏞️ 6. Perfect walking weather It's around +15°C (60°F)—so no bulky down jackets or frostbite. Just throw on some jeans, a windbreaker, and your favorite sneakers, and you're good to go! You can explore for hours without freezing. 🍓 7. The Northern harvest Cloudberries (the oranges of the North!) ripen by late July, and blueberries are ready in August. I picked wild blueberries right at "Laplandia," and the taste was unbelievable! 📸 8. Breathtaking scenery The hills, the tundra, the ocean, and the endless light—every single shot you take here looks like it belongs on a magazine cover. 🌿 9. A true sense of freedom There are far fewer tourists in the summer, and the open spaces go on forever. Standing alone on a hill with the wind in your face, you truly feel like the queen of the Arctic. 🔥 10. Evenings in the sauna After a long day of exploring, I head back to "Laplandia" for the sauna, a barbecue, some kebabs, and the peace of the forest. It's the absolute perfect way to wrap up every day! · -- The North in the summer isn't about freezing cold and darkness. It's about light, both inside and out, feeling the ocean breeze, and tasting sweet northern berries. Come on up—I guarantee you'll fall in love and want to come back over and over again. If you decide to make the trip, shoot me a message, and I'll share my best routes and hidden gems! 💫 · - 📍 For your taxi driver: "Hotel complex 'Laplandia', Murmashi village" — just 5 minutes from the airport.

Russia is the largest country in the world, and its natural landscapes are incredibly diverse. Here, you'll find volcanoes reminiscent of Iceland, fjords just like in Norway, glaciers similar to those in Patagonia, turquoise lakes, alpine valleys, and ocean coastlines that could easily be mistaken for New Zealand. If you want to see a completely different side of Russia, save this list. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🌋 1. Kamchatka — Like Iceland ✈️ Nearest airport: Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (PKC) Active volcanoes, the Valley of Geysers, hot springs, black volcanic beaches, bears, whales, and orcas. This is one of the wildest places on Earth, where nature has remained largely unchanged for thousands of years. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🏔️ 2. Altai — Like Switzerland and New Zealand ✈️ Nearest airport: Gorno-Altaysk (RGK) Turquoise rivers, snow-capped peaks, alpine meadows, glaciers, and the famous Chuysky Trakt—one of the most beautiful highways in the world. This is where you'll find Mars-1 and Mars-2: colorful mountains that look like landscapes from another planet. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🌊 3. Sakhalin — Like Northern Japan ✈️ Nearest airport: Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (UUS) Towering cliffs, lighthouses, wild beaches, dense forests, and abundant marine life. In the summer, you can spot whales here, and the local cuisine is considered some of the best in Russia thanks to the incredibly fresh seafood. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🌿 4. Iturup — Like New Zealand ✈️ How to get there: Flight to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (UUS), then a domestic flight to Kurilsk (Iturup) or by ferry (depending on the season). The largest island of the Kuril archipelago amazes with its snow-white cliffs, thermal springs, volcanoes, waterfalls, and the Pacific coastline. The White Cliffs of Iturup are one of the most unique places in Russia. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🐋 5. Teriberka — Like Norway ✈️ Nearest airport: Murmansk (MMK) This small village on the shores of the Barents Sea has become famous for its rugged northern landscapes. People come here for the whales, the Northern Lights, a beach covered in giant boulders, and endless Arctic views. It is especially beautiful here in winter. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ⛰️ 6. Dagestan — Like the Grand Canyon and the Alps Combined ✈️ Nearest airport: Makhachkala (MCX) One of the most underrated regions in Russia. Here, you'll find the Sulak Canyon with its turquoise water, ancient mountain villages, mountain passes, waterfalls, and incredible observation decks. It’s rare to encounter such a variety of landscapes in a single trip. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 💙 7. Baikal — The Deepest Lake in the World ✈️ Nearest airports: Irkutsk (IKT) or Ulan-Ude (UUD) Baikal cannot be compared to any other place. In summer: crystal-clear water, cliffs, and Olkhon Island. In winter: the famous blue ice with trapped bubbles, which has become a symbol of the lake and attracts photographers from all over the world. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✈️ When is the best time to go? 🌸 May–June — Dagestan, Altai. ☀️ July–September — Kamchatka, Sakhalin, Iturup, Baikal. 🍂 September — Altai and Teriberka. ❄️ February–March — Baikal with its famous ice, and Teriberka, where you can combine the trip with hunting for the Northern Lights.

#russia #russiannorthcharm #murmansk There's a Russian saying: "In summer, prepare your sleigh." I'd recommend considering a winter trip. In the north, you'll experience a true Russian winter: Murmansk and Teriberka are extremely popular with tourists from all over the world, and tickets and hotels can be in short supply at the last minute. When the plane lands in Murmansk, the first thing you notice is the frost. It's here that you understand the meaning of the word "harsh": snowdrifts here are taller than a man, and the wind from the Kola Bay blows in your face. The city's main monument rises 35 meters above the bay. The view from there is so impressive it gives you goosebumps, and not just from the cold. Be sure to visit the Lenin Museum Ship, the world's first nuclear-powered icebreaker. Imagine: this colossus has carved a path through the ice that prevents anyone from passing. Teriberka. The trip there is an adventure in itself. Snow-covered hills, a blizzard that envelops the car like white cotton wool. A village at the edge of the world. The Barents Sea never freezes, even in winter; it breathes, roars, and sways with heavy, leaden waves. You set out to sea, and there's no room for pretentiousness. There's only you, the ocean, and the endless sky. If you're lucky, the northern lights will dance overhead, green flashes that make you want to cry. This is not such a rarity here. People don't come here for comfort. They come for peace and quiet. They come to see how beautiful the world is when it's completely honest with you. Murmansk and Teriberka are the land where the earth ends and eternity begins. However, tourist attractions will not be overlooked: you can ride snowmobiles and dog sleds, feed reindeer, take a steam bath, and feast on crabs.

In the summer, the polar day lasts for two months above the Arctic Circle, and the sun never sets. I think this alone is worth a trip to Murmansk and exploring the largest city above the Arctic Circle. We stayed at the Asgard Hotel, which is located in the very center of the city, within walking distance of the main attractions. It's newly renovated and overall a pretty good value. We checked the weather forecast before departure, so we packed jackets, hats, gloves, and raincoats, and we didn't regret it. We spent the first day getting to know the city. I recommend starting at the Tourist Information Center, where they'll help you plan a route for free and tell you the best places to visit. Next, we headed to the Murmansk Museum of Local History. I recommend checking their website for the tour schedule. If you want someone to explain it to you, but if you prefer to explore for yourself, plan at least three hours. The museum is interactive and very interesting; we returned there twice. Next, we headed to the First Nuclear Icebreaker Lenin. We bought tickets in advance on the website (we recommend buying online, as a worker near the icebreaker will likely be able to give you directions, but to save time, it's best to buy in advance). The icebreaker staff give a very interesting tour. We arrived a little early and waited for the tour to begin in the seaport building. Near the station is a "Pomorsky Koch" food truck. I recommend trying the cod tongues there. We were lucky: the heavy rain stopped in the late afternoon, and we donned our hoods and headed out into the open. During our stay, the Alyosha monument was closed for restoration (but we still got some great photos of it). At the tourist center, we were advised to visit the Zhdushchaya monument. Overall, it's a pretty place, but after taking a few photos, we got cold and hurried back to the bus. A couple of stations away is a monument to sailors who died in peacetime, a beautiful lighthouse stands there, and the observation deck offers views of the city. Near this location is Lake Semenovskoye. If you climb up a hill from it, through the woods, along a path (quite a few people walk there; we got there on a sunny day), you'll reach a clearing with a view of that very Alyosha and probably one of the most beautiful views of the city.

For my birthday, I found myself at the edge of the Earth—where May feels like winter, and instead of palm trees, you're greeted by the Arctic Ocean😀 When people ask where I celebrated my birthday, no one expects to hear this answer. Not in Paris. Not on the shore of a warm sea. Not on a tropical island. But at the edge of the Earth—in Teriberka. 📍 A village on the coast of the Barents Sea, where the Arctic Ocean meets the rugged Arctic wilderness. May brought a surprise: snow covered the ground, and the freezing wind was a stark reminder that real summer was still a long way off. But that's exactly where the magic of Teriberka lies. 🤍 On this day, I saw: 🌊 the endless Barents Sea ❄️ snow-capped hills in the middle of spring 🐦 loud bird colonies perched on the cliffs 💦 Batareysky Waterfall plunging directly into the sea 🪨 the famous "Dragon Eggs" beach 🚢 the ship graveyard, which has become one of Teriberka's most iconic symbols It feels like stepping into another world. There's none of the usual city hustle and bustle here. Just the wind, the ocean, an endless horizon, and a true sense of freedom. 💡 What you need to know before you go: ✔ You can easily get here from Murmansk on your own by bus or car. ✔ Even in May, be sure to pack warm clothes, a beanie, and a windproof jacket. ✔ The weather changes rapidly: sun, snow, and wind can swap places multiple times a day. ✔ The best things you can bring back aren't souvenirs, but memories and photos of unbelievable Arctic landscapes. 🎂 This might just have been the most unique birthday of my life. After all, it's not every year you ring in a new year of your life on the shores of the Arctic Ocean, in a place rightfully known as the edge of the Earth.

#WinterTravel They say this is the best time to see the aurora this year, with solar activity at its peak? 😄 Seeing the aurora in Murmansk, something I've always wanted to do!! I finally ticked off my bucket list this time. We took the tour for 5,000 rubles per person, and while you wait, the guide will determine if the tour is available and let you know when to go. Our schedule got messed up, so our original three-night stay was shortened to two. And even then, on the day of our arrival, we were told the clouds were too high to see the aurora. 😭 We saw one aurora, but we were so worried we wouldn't see it again. Luckily, our guide called and said we could see it on the last day! 🥺 The tour departed at 8 PM after picking us up from our Murmansk accommodation. When you enter the forest to see the aurora, temperatures can drop to -35 degrees Celsius, so pack warmly. If you don't see the aurora right away, you might have to wait in the car for a long time, so hot packs and blankets are essential!!🥶 When we went, the aurora index was high and the weather was very clear, but unfortunately, it happened to be the day of the supermoon, so the aurora wasn't very visible ㅠㅠㅠ It was very hazy at first, but it gradually became darker and spread out like a curtain.✨ They say that when the index is low, it can only be captured on camera and not clearly visible to the naked eye, but it was still beautiful even with the naked eye.🥺 I forgot about the cold and just stared at the sky for hours😂 I even took off my coat for the perfect shot. The guide took great photos with a professional camera, and he gave me plenty of time to take as many photos as I wanted. The aurora alone is enough to explain why I came to Murmansk!! See the aurora at 1/3 the price of Northern Europe💕 📍Murmansk, Russia

#hellochristmas Murmansk is the largest city in the world located beyond the Arctic Circle, offering dramatic northern landscapes, fresh polar air, and a raw, authentic atmosphere far from classic tourist routes. Winter here is about true Arctic experiences: snowmobile rides, husky sledding, ice fishing, and visiting traditional northern villages. The surrounding tundra, frozen lakes, and endless snowy horizons create a powerful sense of scale and silence. In summer, Murmansk surprises with the polar day, when the sun doesn’t set at all. It’s a perfect time for coastal walks, boat trips in the Barents Sea, and exploring the wild nature of the Kola Peninsula. The city itself is compact and easy to explore, with Soviet-era monuments, viewpoints over Kola Bay, and a calm northern rhythm of life. Murmansk is not about luxury — it’s about atmosphere, nature, and discovering life at the edge of the Arctic. #travel #wintergetaway #trip #travelinspiration #tripcom #arctic

The culinary highlight of this season is the Sampo restaurant in Murmansk. The tastiest fish and seafood are right here. For sea urchins and scallops, this is the place to be, but what truly impresses is the Northern cuisine: with its kalitki pies, reindeer cabbage rolls, fish dumplings, cloudberry ice cream, and freshly baked bread served hot from the oven with smoked butter 🥰. They serve generously, aiming not just to feed but to immerse you in the history of their land. For inspiration - snapshots of the most authentic restaurant ❤️

On the snowy path to the edge of the northern land Traveling through northern Russia begins with a long road passing through small villages blanketed in snow. Light-colored wooden houses stand quietly amidst the white expanse of winter. Thin smoke rises from chimneys, creating a simple yet inexplicably warm scene. The view along the way features serene pine forests, with snow densely covering the branches. The car moves slowly, allowing time to observe the small details along the journey—tire tracks on the snow, low wooden fences, and traces of life in villages where time seems to move slower than elsewhere. Switching to a snowmobile changes the atmosphere instantly. The soft hum of the engine takes us through vast snowy paths. The cold wind brushes against our faces, but the most striking feature is the expansive view of nature, almost devoid of any man-made structures. Along the way, there is only the whiteness of snow, a horizon that feels wider than usual, and the sensation of moving closer to the Arctic Circle or the true edge of the northern land. Here, there are no bright lights, no chaos. Only the wind, the cold, and a view that makes us feel small. Yet, at the same time, it feels like we've come farther than ever before.

The Northern Lights in Teriberka: A Journey to the Edge of the World 🗺️Nestled on the rugged coast of the Barents Sea, Teriberka is one of Russia’s most breathtaking destinations — a remote village where the wild beauty of the Arctic meets the raw power of nature. Located about 130 kilometers from Murmansk, this once-forgotten fishing settlement has transformed into a magnet for travelers seeking solitude, dramatic landscapes, and one of the most magical natural phenomena: the northern lights. 🌌To witness the aurora borealis in all its glory, timing and conditions are crucial. The best chance to see the northern lights comes during the long, dark winter nights — from late September to early April. But even then, one thing is essential: a clear sky. Cloud cover can easily obscure the view, so patience and luck are part of the adventure. When the sky clears, and the stars begin to shine above the endless horizon, that’s when the magic begins. 🚙The journey to Teriberka starts in Murmansk, the largest city beyond the Arctic Circle. Renting a car is the most convenient and scenic way to get there. The drive takes about two and a half hours, winding through snowy tundras, frozen rivers, and pine forests blanketed in white. As you leave the city behind, the world becomes quieter, more elemental. The road itself is an experience — a ribbon of asphalt cutting through a landscape that feels untouched by time. 💙Once you arrive in Teriberka, you’ll be struck by its beauty. The village clings to the edge of the sea, surrounded by cliffs and rocky shores. Abandoned fishing boats, half-buried in snow and ice, stand like silent sculptures against the wind. The air is crisp, the silence profound. This is not a place of luxury, but of authenticity — a place to disconnect and reconnect with nature. 🏠Staying overnight is essential. Not only does it give you time to explore the area, but it also increases your chances of seeing the aurora. Many visitors choose cozy guesthouses or heated cabins, where they can warm up with a cup of tea after a long walk along the shore. As night falls, the sky transforms. If conditions are right, you might first notice a faint green glow near the horizon — soft, almost hesitant. Then, slowly, it intensifies. #northernlights #russia #murmansk #russiatrip

This trip was the longest journey of my life (7,000 km) to Murmansk, Russia. 🇷🇺 It's a city in northern Russia, located in the Arctic Circle, and a popular spot for Northern Lights hunting. We traveled in March 2023 and mission accomplished. We drove out for two nights, and on the third night, my little sister arrived right in front of our accommodation. No need to endure the cold for long, because we could run right into our accommodation. Judging from that green outfit, it's just pajamas and a sweater, in temperatures that are a little below zero. My heart was so full! 💜🫶🏻
