5 Short and Easy waterfall walks in South Wales
5 easy & short waterfall walks in South Wales.
Perfect for all ages
1. The Sychryd All Ability Trail, Dinas Rock, SA11 5NE
A easy there & back trail which winds between the river and rock face, through a wooded gorge. The trail is flat & suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs & mobility scooters. Taking around 30mins there & back at a relaxed pace. There is a free carpark at the start of the trail.
2. Gawrnant Cascades, Merthyr Tydfil, CF48 2HU
The willow walk is a gentle all-ability trail that takes you across 3 bridges, past cascades which while are not big waterfalls they are still quite impressive after rainfall. This route is suitable for pushchairs & wheelchairs and is a lovely nature packed trail that kids will love. Car parking is £2 for 2hrs or £5 all day at Garwnant Visitor Centre.
3. Penllergaer Waterfall, Penllergaer Valley Woods, Swansea, SA49GS
The Gardener’s Stroll trail is a short 20mins trail, that takes you through the beautiful woodland garden down to the impressive Waterfall. While this is an easy walk it does involve step so unfortunately is not wheelchair or pushchair friendly. Free entry into the woods, dog friendly, parking £3 for 3hrs, £4 for the whole day.
4. Melincourt Waterfall Trail, Neath, SA11 4ED
This trail has recently reopened. A straightforward, flat, there & back trail, taking around 10-15mins from the carpark to the falls. While it’s easy you do need to supervise young children as there is a steep drop to one side. I’ve seen people navigate this trail with pushchairs with no issues and it’s generally viewed as accessible.
5. Clydach Vale Country Park Waterfalls, Tonypandy, CF40 2XX
There are 3 waterfalls at this location, the easiest route is from the upper carpark where you follow the flat circular route around the top lake, although if you have time I do recommend walking from the bottom lake which is around 3miles there and back. 2 waterfalls do require leaving the circular path heading uphill, they are not far from then main path ad are signposted however are not accessibility friendly.

Chic Castle Retreat in rural southern france
#hellonewyear
BECOME THE KING/QUEEN OF YOUR OWN CASTLE -
🇫🇷 This isn’t a cold, echo-y castle stay, this is soft beds, light-filled rooms and beautifully restored interiors, all wrapped up in a historic château in rural southern France. Set in the village of Lagarde, Castle Room B&B lets you soak up centuries of character by day, then retreat to seriously comfy surroundings by night. Best of both worlds, honestly.

Whispers Beneath the Town: A Solo Stop at Neath Castle
#hellohalloween
Tucked quietly in the heart of Neath town, Neath Castle may not sit on a windswept hill or overlook a great valley—but it holds a different kind of beauty. Here, history breathes quietly between modern streets, a reminder that even amid the noise of everyday life, solitude can still be found.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Neath
I arrived in Neath on a mild afternoon, expecting a simple ruin—and instead found a pocket of peace. The castle stands near the town centre, its 13th-century walls now framed by cafés and shops. Yet as I stepped through the archway, the city faded away. The air changed—cooler, stiller—as if time itself paused within these old stones. I wandered the grounds slowly, imagining the fortress that once guarded this valley, feeling both its strength and its quiet surrender to time.
Day 2 – Morning Reflections Among the Ruins
Returned early the next morning when the town was still half-asleep. The first light caught the walls in shades of amber, and the streets were silent but for the distant echo of footsteps. I sat on a bench near the remains of the gatehouse, sipping coffee, listening to the city wake around the castle. It was a moment of balance—ancient and modern, stillness and motion. Traveling alone makes you notice these contrasts more deeply; the world feels sharper, more alive.
Day 3 – Exploring Neath’s Layers
Before leaving, I explored nearby Victoria Gardens and the Neath Abbey ruins, both within easy reach. Each place carried the same quiet dignity, a reminder that history doesn’t just live in the hills—it hides in the everyday places we pass by.
Travel Tips
· Best Time: Early morning for solitude before town activity begins.
· Getting There: Located in central Neath, just a short walk from the train station.
· Bring: A camera, comfortable shoes, and a slow pace.
· Nearby: Visit Neath Abbey and the Waterfall Country for a nature escape.
At Neath Castle, the past doesn’t shout—it whispers. You just have to slow down enough to listen.
