Ninghai | Dragon Palace, a hidden ancient village hidden in the mountains of Ningbo According to historical records, during the Xuanhe period of the Northern Song Dynasty, Chen Chongliang from Pinghu, Xinchang, traveled here and was delighted by the beautiful scenery. He settled down here and the area became a village. When the village was first built, it was originally called Longxi Village, and later changed to Longgong Village. This place is named after the dragon, so of course there are many legends about dragons. It is said that there once was a dragon living in a deep pool in the south of the village. The pool is bottomless, the water is clear and blue, and it never stops flowing all year round, just like a crystal palace, so it is called the Dragon Palace. The most famous attraction in the village is the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, a national key protected unit. It has a long history, exquisitely carved window grilles and buildings, and a strong ancient village cultural atmosphere. It is very exquisite, showing the exquisite architectural skills of the craftsmen and can be called an artistic treasure deep in the mountains. Ninghai Hot springs is not very far from Ningbo. It’s easy to get there by train and you can enjoy your day on the nature while soaking in one of the pools. It’s open all day at the weekend haha and 1pm till late during the week.

20 minutes train ride away from Ningbo city, Ninghai country is home to Qiantong. 20 minute taxi from Ninghai station you will find the ticket office of the ancient town. Take a short walk from here towards the guarded entrance, here you can enter the ancient town which has been built up by the local residents. The government have helped the locals to expand the area and keep it active. The ancient town has a few paths to follow that lead into each other, there’s also some older buildings to visit and explore as well as local shops and cafes. Souvenirs are a must buy here. Surrounded by evergreen mountains, Ninghai Forest Hot Spring is located about 60km away from Ningbo, a nice weekend getaway from the city life. ⛰ It is considered one of the top three hot springs in China. ♨️ The water’s temperature can reach 49.5° degrees, and there are more than 20 kinds of mineral substances and micro-elements which bring great benefit to your health. There are two hotels you can choose from while there. One consists of several cute cabins perched up the hills of the mountain (get your calves ready to work!), and is directly connected to the hot springs. The other is a more luxurious hotel, located 3km away from the hot springs, and offers a ‘normal’ style hotel room. Before entering the hot springs, male and female changing rooms can be found on opposite side of the lobby. The locker rooms are very neat and clean, with enough space for everyone. The hallway towards the external area is entirely closed and heated, so don’t worry about walking around in only flip flops, bathing suit, and a robe! There is also one indoor swimming pool that is very enjoyable, with resting chairs, and a shallow part for children. Outside, you will find numerous small hot spring pools. Some have Chinese herbs added to the water while others do not. You get to pick and choose, hopping from one to another while you relax and take in the contrasting temperatures!
