Here’s the route I’d recommend: 📍 Chiang Mai → Mork → Ban Rak Thai → Baan Jabo → Pai → Chiang Mai ⸻ ☁️ Stop 1 | Mork The journey starts in the mountains. Spend the night at a traditional mountain stay overlooking a sea of clouds. Waking up to mist rolling across the valley while brewing locally grown coffee on the balcony was one of the most peaceful moments of the entire trip. The homemade barbecue dinner and local breakfast made it even more memorable. ⸻ 🍃 Stop 2 | Ban Rak Thai One of the most unique villages in Thailand. Founded by Yunnanese settlers, Ban Rak Thai feels completely different from anywhere else in the country. Surrounded by tea plantations and a tranquil lake, it’s the perfect place to slow down. Don’t miss the traditional wooden boat ride across the lake. Gliding through the calm water with mountains reflected in the background was easily one of the most photogenic experiences of the trip. Take your time exploring the tea houses and enjoy a cup of locally grown tea before continuing your drive. ⸻ ⛰️ Stop 3 | Baan Jabo Baan Jabo may be small, but the mountain views are unforgettable. Perched high above the valley, it’s famous for its simple noodle shop overlooking the mountains. It may not look like much, but enjoying a warm bowl of noodles while clouds drift through the valley is an experience you’ll remember long after the trip. Sometimes the simplest stops become the most memorable. ⸻ 🌿 Stop 4 | Pai After days of winding mountain roads, Pai feels like the perfect place to slow down. Start the day at Dear Your Mind, a peaceful café surrounded by nature that’s perfect for a slow morning. Later, visit Monko Café, where the panoramic mountain views make it worth lingering over another coffee. For the night, stay in a lakeside cabin, where you can watch the sunset reflected on the water before ending the day in complete tranquillity. After several days on the road, it was exactly the kind of place we needed. ⸻ 🚗 Back to Chiang Mai The drive back completes the famous loop. Yes, there are plenty of curves, but every mountain pass reveals another incredible viewpoint, hidden café or quiet village that makes the journey worthwhile. This isn’t a road trip you rush. Hello! Helmet and gloves on, get ready for a hike at "Khao Ta Muen"! We were tricked into climbing a mountain – a limestone mountain! We're the type of hikers who love shady forests with lots of trees and pretty flowers, but this is 100% limestone, and the sun is blindingly bright! The slope is 70-90 degrees! But it's only 1 km with an 8 kg backpack. Seriously, no big deal. We've come this far, we're not going to just lie down and wait at the bottom. We're crazy ghosts who dare to go anywhere! Okay, let's begin. The actual distance isn't that far. We're hiking up the steep slope through the forest, following the legendary Khao Ta Muen ravine. Luckily, there are ropes all the way to help with the climb. Along the way, we stopped to take pictures in the rock crevices and admire the magnificent nature. The first part is mostly shaded. Towards the end, there's some climbing and rock scrambling for those afraid of heights. And importantly, something I really dislike: stairs!! And they're rope ladders! Oh my god, they're super steep and long. As usual, I just kept complaining as I went. We walked the whole time, grumbling as we went, and then... Aha!!! We're here! Awesome! ✌️ There's a bench to lie on and enjoy the view. It's nice and not too strenuous, just perfect. There's a sign for taking photos to show that we finally made it! But!! After resting for a bit, our guide, P'Sawan, said, "Are you ready to continue?" Good heavens! We're not there yet?! He said, "I'll take you through the city gate first, then we'll go to our campsite." Oh!!!! It's such a long walk, and the path is full of sharp rocks. If you fall, you'll get your guts pierced! #AccommodationReview Come stay at Noen Maprang in Phitsanulok at "Natchanamung Homestay." This compact homestay offers a view of the rice fields and mountains, offering a breath of fresh air. You can also enjoy bat-watching activities nearby. Not far from the accommodation, the white-toned houses are new and clean, with spacious bathrooms. There's a balcony for relaxing at the back, and there's a bridge for walking along the rice fields, perfect for capturing beautiful photos. The price is also affordable. We booked for 1,000 baht, including breakfast. We had children ages 5 and 7, and the accommodation didn't charge extra. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a place to stay. There's not much parking available in this area. When we visited, the grass was quite long, so we had to keep our eyes peeled for the ground. Inside, there's a sign for Khao Sam Kasat, where you can take a check-in photo, and there are also stairs for taking photos with the beautiful mountain view. It's free, and the view is beautiful. It's only a 10-minute drive from Ban Mung town. There's a parking area in front, and there's a small maintenance fee. The staff told us there were a lot of mosquitoes inside, so they gave us free mosquito repellent. It's only a 100-meter walk from the parking area to the waterfall. It's a truly worthwhile visit! It's easy to get to, beautiful, and even suitable for children to play in. The water isn't deep, and the waterfall maintains its pristine natural beauty.
