How to Get to Katsuoji (Daruma Temple) from Downtown Osaka: Easier Than You Think!
🚆 Getting from Downtown Osaka to Katsuoji Temple
Katsuoji Temple, often called the "Daruma Temple," is one of Osaka's most popular attractions. Although nestled in the suburbs, getting there is a breeze. A combination of train and bus will get you there in just 50–60 minutes.
🚇 Step 1: Head to Minoh-Kayano Station
If you're staying in Namba, Shinsaibashi, or Umeda, simply hop on the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line. It seamlessly connects to the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Railway, so there's no need to transfer!
📍 Get off at Minoh-Kayano Station (箕面萱野駅), the final stop on the line.
⏱️ Travel Time
· From Namba: Approx. 35–40 minutes
· From Shinsaibashi: Approx. 30–35 minutes
· From Umeda: Approx. 20–25 minutes
⸻
🚌 Step 2: Catch a Bus to Katsuoji Temple
Once you arrive at Minoh-Kayano Station, head out through the main exit. You'll spot the Hankyu Bus stop right in front of the station.
Hop on the bus heading toward Katsuoji (勝尾寺).
🛑 Get off at the Katsuoji-mae (勝尾寺前) bus stop, which drops you off right in front of the temple entrance.
⏱️ The bus ride takes about 20 minutes.
⸻
💰 Estimated Costs
· Osaka Metro + Kita-Osaka Kyuko Railway: Approx. 430–480 yen (depending on your starting station)
· Hankyu Bus: Approx. 400–500 yen
Total one-way trip costs around 850–1,000 yen.
⸻
⏰ Total Travel Time
Approximately 50–60 minutes from downtown Osaka.
⸻
💡 Tips
🍁 If you're visiting during the autumn foliage season (late November to early December) or hydrangea season, it gets quite crowded. We recommend heading out early in the morning.
🚌 Buses run at specific intervals. Be sure to check the schedules for both your departure and return trips in advance to avoid long waits.
💳 You can conveniently use IC cards like ICOCA, Suica, or PASMO to pay for both train and bus fares.
📸 Once you're at the temple, don't forget to look out for the little Daruma dolls hidden all around the grounds. They are a popular photo op and a symbol of praying for success!
[Nara] A Delicious Gourmet Stand and a Highly Recommended Cake Shop.
1. IKOMA GOURMET STAND
📍Location: 105 Heights Sawarabi, 1-496 Higashi-Ikoma, Ikoma, Nara 630-0213
This spot is super famous for its donuts 💁
But the food is absolutely amazing too!
Everything from the appetizer platter to the ricotta cream occhi with lemon sauce and the carbonara is simply exquisite!
Their 4-cheese New York cheesecake and pecan donut are also incredibly delicious!!
When dining in, they served it with a scoop of ice cream.
Takeout is available as well!
They don't take reservations, so I highly recommend getting there before they open.
2. Minerowa
📍Location: 1F Royal Riverside, 1-19-5 Honmachi, Oji-cho, Kitakatsuragi-gun, Nara 636-0012
The cakes at this shop are seriously out of this world.
The dine-in area has very few seats, so reservations are a must.
If you choose to eat in, they beautifully plate your dessert and even serve it with some extra tea snacks.
Their seasonal fruit cakes, classic shortcakes, and cream puffs are all incredibly tasty.
🇯🇵Katsuo-ji Temple🇯🇵
🇯🇵Katsuo-ji Temple (Daruma Temple)🇯🇵
Located in Minoh City, Osaka Prefecture. We traveled from the Dotobori area by subway and then by bus, about 40 minutes. It's recommended to check the bus schedule for the return trip. The temple is filled with Daruma dolls everywhere. People come here to pray for success in work, studies, and victory in life.
It snowed the day we visited, making the temple even more beautiful. The temple was beautiful, clean, and peaceful. We spent a long time there. Before leaving, there are souvenirs and snacks for sale near the entrance/exit.
Opening hours: Approximately 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Sat-Sun 5:30 PM)
Entrance fee: 500 yen
