Starting Day 1 of our Aomori trip by taking a ferry from Hokkaido with our car. Heading to Oma from Hakodate Ferry Terminal via the Tsugaru Strait Ferry, we first visited Cape Oma, the northernmost point of Honshu. In Oma, we had the Oma tuna that we really wanted to try. We were able to enjoy not only tuna but also sea urchin, making it a very luxurious lunch right after arriving in Aomori. After that, we headed to Hotokegaura. The view from the observation deck is amazing, but when you go down the promenade and get closer, the unique white rocks and emerald green sea are truly breathtaking. According to the sign, the promenade takes about 20 minutes to go down and 40 minutes to return. Since the return trip is uphill, comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended. After fully enjoying Hotokegaura, we drove toward Hachinohe in preparation for the Tatehana Wharf Morning Market the next morning 🚗 The travel time was a bit long, about 3 hours, but we enjoyed the scenic drive with views of Aomori's ocean and mountains from the Shimokita Peninsula to Hachinohe. On the way, we even encountered wild monkeys unexpectedly. Including the travel time, it was a day where we truly felt the richness of Aomori's nature. In the evening, we took a bath at Kumanosawa Onsen. At night, we had dinner in Hachinohe City and took a nap in a nearby parking lot to get ready for the Tatehana Wharf Morning Market the next morning. A 3-day, 2-night road trip to Aomori from Hokkaido via ferry. Before setting off, I wondered, "How much can we really see in just three days?" But as it turned out, we were able to fully enjoy the stunning views, incredible seafood, bustling markets, and beautiful shrines right up until it was time to catch the ferry home. Day 1: We took the ferry from Hokkaido to Aomori. We visited Cape Oma, the northernmost point of Honshu, savored Oma tuna, and explored Hotokegaura, which was on a completely different scale of breathtaking. Day 2: We started bright and early with some delicious food at the Tatehana Wharf Morning Market, then headed to Kabushima, an island swarming with black-tailed gulls. Afterward, we visited "a la ringo", Oirase Gorge, and Lake Towada, taking in the charming spots and beautiful nature that Aomori is known for. Day 3: We enjoyed freshwater clam soup at Lake Jusan, visited Takayama Inari Shrine, dug into a "Nokke-don" (customizable seafood rice bowl) and giant oysters at the Aomori Gyosai Center, and took a stroll around the station near A-FACTORY. Finally, we hopped on the Tsugaru Strait Ferry to head back to Hokkaido. Even with just 3 days and 2 nights, you can cover a lot of ground in Aomori with the right route. Access: 1 hour by car from Shimokita Station on the JR Shimokita Line Tourist attractions: Many shops and tuna bowl restaurants in the area Oma Cape is the northernmost point of Honshu. As you drive along the coastline, you will suddenly come across a monument and something like a small observation deck. On a clear day, you can see Hokkaido on the opposite shore. There are about 10 restaurants serving Oma tuna bowls in the area, and there is also a parking lot for them. I recommend parking your car there and doing a quick sightseeing. Recently, I had Oma tuna at a sushi restaurant, and it was so delicious that I decided to visit this town at the northernmost tip of Honshu. There are no highways, and it takes nearly three hours from Misawa Airport. Despite the long journey, the tuna bowl I had at Omazoku (around 4,000 yen) was truly delicious. At the sushi restaurant, I could only have one piece, so being able to eat this much made me very happy. June is the season for sea urchin, so I also had fresh sea urchin on the spot, and it was amazing! Since it's far, I recommend planning your schedule carefully.

I took an overnight trip to Oma and Mount Osore, one of Japan's three major sacred sites. The biggest problem was getting to Oma. Public transport was not time-efficient, so I decided to rent a car from Misawa Airport and drive from Oma to Mount Osore, then drop off at Shichinohe-Towada Station. I wanted to stay the night in Aomori City and drop off at Aomori Station, but the fee was high, so I decided to drop off at Shichinohe-Towada Station. I ordered a tuna platter at Hamazushi, a popular restaurant in Oma. Not only the lean and medium fatty tuna, but also the tuna roll was very delicious. On the way back, I stopped off at Mount Osore, and the smell of sulfur and the fantastic scenery were refreshing. The mountain will be closed from November, so it's best to consider the time of year if you plan to visit. It takes 2.5 hours non-stop from Misawa Airport to Oma, and there is no highway, so it will take more than five hours round trip, so you may need to be prepared.
