Review of a 3-Day, 2-Night Self-Guided Trip to Southern Laos A super honest review, based on planning and spontaneous exploration. The results exceeded expectations! Traveling to Laos was so easy and fun. Main points to note: 1. Exchange money at the border crossing for the best rate and avoid long waits for your bus or tour company. 2. Buy a SIM card at the border. 100 baht is enough, but we got ripped off and bought one for 150 baht, which had plenty of data. 3. Exchange enough cash beforehand. If you run out of cash once you're in Laos, it's very difficult to find someone who will transfer money to you. When we went, nobody accepted transfers. 4. Driving in Laos, if you're going a short distance, a motorbike is recommended. It's easier to drive than a car, which is more dangerous. If you see other drivers going through a red light, just go ahead; they don't stop at red lights unless you're turning. 5. Regarding food, if you don't plan ahead, don't worry, it's very easy to find. We found many delicious restaurants by searching on Google. 6. Take a bus from the bus station in Pakse. The bus goes directly to Pakse for 200 baht per person. Once you arrive in Pakse, book your return ticket at [bus station number 3]. On the Laos side, it's 200 baht. 7. Wat Luang Pakse (officially named Wat Pho Ratana Satsadaram) is one of the most significant and oldest temples in Pakse, Champasak Province, Laos. Built in 1935, it is located right in the heart of the city, perfectly situated where the Xedone River meets the Mekong River. The architecture within the temple grounds beautifully blends traditional Lao design with French colonial influences. Two-Color River View: Since it's located right along the Xedone River, you can stop by to witness the confluence of the two rivers (the deep green waters of the Xedone contrasting with the light brown waters of the Mekong). The cafe is decorated in a simple tone with a touch of vintage vibes, giving you the feeling of resting at a friend's house. It's a favorite spot for foreigners to work, read, or enjoy their drinks leisurely 📖. The cafe is housed in a charmingly renovated old building, retaining the classic essence of Pakse. We stayed at Pakse Hotel & Restaurant in Pakse city. We booked two Economy rooms, but one of them had a clogged drain. Actually, we went out and didn't even notice the drain was clogged until the reception informed us and immediately moved us to a Deluxe room at no extra cost (the room in the first picture). It had a seating area for eating and a hot tub! So relaxing! 🌟 Breakfast included 🌟 Welcome drinks included 🌟 Rooftop bar with city views 🌟 Complimentary tea to take home (Deluxe room) 🌟 Bathtub (Deluxe room) The breakfast selection was very diverse and everything looked delicious. It's a really nice hotel for relaxation. Or, if you want to enjoy the view in the morning, you can go up to the rooftop for coffee and admire the beautiful city views.

🚘 We started our journey from Bangkok at 8:00 PM and arrived in Pakse around 8:00 AM. Upon arrival, we took a bus to our accommodation and then rented a motorbike for 300 THB per day to explore the city of Pakse. Our first stop was the City Pillar Shrine. We visited the shrine to seek blessings for a safe and enjoyable trip. The shrine is beautifully adorned with striking orange-red hues and stands prominently in the heart of Pakse. Next, we visited Wat Luang, a revered temple in Pakse. The temple is stunning, from its entrance gate to various spots within the premises, all intricately decorated with golden carvings. The ordination hall is particularly magnificent. We took photos at every corner, gaining both merit and beautiful pictures. After paying respects at the temple, we headed to a Christian church, which features a blend of European and French styles harmoniously combined with Lao culture. Every angle of the church is picture-perfect. For those with limited time visiting Pakse, we recommend renting a motorbike to explore the city. It’s worth it, as there are many beautiful places waiting to be discovered and admired.

🏍️We traveled from Pakse to Tad Fane Waterfall for about an hour. Upon reaching the waterfall, there's a parking area and staff members on hand to guide us through the route. We then followed the guided trail to the waterfall area. The sound of the waterfall and the gentle breeze was refreshing, and the scent of the atmosphere was filled with the sounds of nature. The waterfall itself flows from the forest and cascades down a deep ravine, creating a view of two cascading streams, creating a beautiful and thrilling experience. We agreed on ziplining for this trip, crossing the waterfall. The ziplining fee is 1,500 baht per person, and the staff will be on hand to record videos and photos throughout. It's a fantastic experience, and I guarantee that anyone who zips here will get stunning photos and videos. After ziplining, we went to various photo spots, especially the hammock photo spot. Just taking photos from there, you'll be able to see both the forest and the waterfall. It's absolutely stunning from every angle. The forests are deep green, the waterfalls are at their peak, and the post-rainy atmosphere is characterised by a light mist, creating a sense of another world. This trip took place in mid-July. The weather was lightly rainy, but this didn't hinder the trip at all. On the contrary, it significantly enhanced the scenery. We departed Ubon Ratchathani at 9:00 a.m., heading towards the Wang Tao border crossing. Entry into Laos was relatively quick, with fewer tourists, and you can exchange kip right there, making it convenient for those who don't want to waste time finding a currency exchange point in the city. Once everything was in order, the Laotian van we had rented was waiting for us as scheduled. There were 8 people on this trip, and the seating was comfortable and not cramped. Our first stop was Pho Lan Kham, a popular restaurant among tourists. With its authentic Lao flavors, each bowl costs around 100 baht, and you can even pay in Thai baht without any hassle. A hot bowl of pho on a lightly rainy day is an unexpected combination. The soft noodles, fragrant broth, and generous portions of meat make for a simple yet energizing lunch. Next, we headed to the highlight of the trip, Tad Fane, the famous twin waterfalls of southern Laos and the highly anticipated zipline area. Upon arrival, the atmosphere was refreshing thanks to the recent rain. A light mist floated over the forest, and the sound of the waterfall roared with full force. The zipline experience cost approximately 1,300 baht, including a guide and free photo service. The zipline route over the waterfall was an experience that offered both excitement and beauty at the same time. The view from the zipline cable overlooking the deep green forest and the water falling over the valley was unforgettable. After the activity, we headed to Tad Yuang, another waterfall that's not too far away and easily accessible, but equally spectacular. The short walk is suitable for all ages, but be warned, the waterfall is very powerful during the rainy season, and the spray can soak you completely. No light wetting is to be expected. We strongly recommend bringing a raincoat or extra clothing, or you'll definitely end up soaked. Despite the wetness, the refreshing sensation and the splashing waters of the waterfall make Tad Yuang a truly enjoyable experience. In the evening, it's time to return to the Wang Tao border crossing to cross into Thailand. The return journey is straightforward and takes no time. Then, we head to Ubon Ratchathani, capping off a day packed with activities without feeling rushed. Overall, Pakse during the rainy season is a perfect destination for nature lovers and those seeking a truly lush greenery, stunning waterfalls, and a mild climate. Hello everyone, today we will share a #travel to Laos trip by ourselves for 5 days and 4 nights, along with travel methods from airplanes to sleeping in a bus for 10 hours (the first time in my life) to be a guide for those who want to go by themselves like us. Let's start. 🛵💨 ——— Day 1: Thailand - Laos 📌 Starting from Don Mueang Airport (DMK) > Ubon Airport (UBP) at a price of around 1,000 *If you book in advance, it will be even cheaper* You can bring luggage on the plane no more than 7 kg. 📌 Continue with Shutter Buss > Ubon Bus Terminal by walking out of the front of the airport and turning right. The fare is 20 baht. When we arrive at the bus terminal, we book a van to get off at Chong Mek border for 100 baht. *Note* The travel time is quite long + the car is not very clean. It is recommended to prepare headphones and wear a mask. And if anyone is hungry, you can eat here while waiting for the car to leave. 📌 Continue with a motorcycle taxi to the front of Chong Mek border. There will be both motorcycle taxis and locals. The price is 30 baht. When you arrive at the border, you can withdraw cash via ATM (Kasikorn), which will be the last ATM in Thailand. And bring cash to exchange with the locals in that area, along with buying a SIM card *Note* You must compare the currency exchange rate in each period well. Exchange moderately (when we went, the rate was 1 baht = 638 kip) 📑 The process of clearing the country is very easy. The first checkpoint is to check the passport, scan the face, and walk from the Chong Mek checkpoint > Wang Tao checkpoint to stamp the passport with the Lao official. There is a fee of 100 baht, and that's it. We can take a van from the checkpoint > Pakse to various areas. We chose to go straight to the hotel by paying 200 baht (Thai baht) 🏨 Pakse Hotel, Family Room, 3 beds, the disadvantage is that there is no window. The advantage of this place is that it is clean, safe, and breakfast is provided for every room. And there is a motorcycle rental service 📍Book a Sleeper Bus ticket with Chitprasong Company (Chitprasong Bus) at 320,000 kip or about 500 baht/person (cheaper than online). Travel time is from 8:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. or about 10-11 hours. *Note* Hurry to buy before the travel date because there are many people. Afraid of running out 📍Have dinner at Pho Lankham, the atmosphere along the Mekong River. The owner is very kind and lovely. The difference is the peanut sauce, which is a bit strange. After that, go to the accommodation. ——— Day 2: Zipline Tad Fane Waterfall 📍We woke up early, checked out of the hotel, left our bags at the reception, and traveled by motorcycle for about 40-50 minutes to our destination. There is an entrance fee to the waterfall and parking fee. 🏞️ Playing Zipline means the weight must not exceed 100 kg. We played normally for 1,690 baht, including video/photo shooting. The feeling while playing was very exciting because it was quite high. If you want it to be good, you should come to play during the rainy season. There will be more fog and greenness than this period. 📍After playing for about 30 minutes, we went to eat at Tad gneuang and walked around to enjoy nature. I must say that it was very beautiful. You can take pictures from many angles if you are not tired first. After returning from the waterfall, we walked around the city and took souvenir photos. We could only hear the sound of the waterfall, but we couldn't see it. Tad Yueang Waterfall, this is the highlight. Walk slowly and leisurely. When you enter, you will see a restaurant. Then, on the left, there will be a bridge to cross and see the view behind the waterfall. At the end of the path, you have to walk down the stairs. You will see a waterfall viewpoint. I recommend walking to the pavilion in the middle. The atmosphere is great for taking pictures. Wat Luang Pakse is located in the city. The temple is very beautiful and you can also see the river.
