A Temple Hotel for Body and Soul: Elysium in Paphos 🏖️
It's no coincidence that the hotel's name alludes to ancient Greek mythology: Elysium—a heavenly place at the end of the earth, where immortal heroes find peace. And once you step through the colonnaded entrance, the metaphor ceases to be a metaphor. Here, the air smells of jasmine and citrus, waterfalls tumble in the gardens, and from the steps of the ancient amphitheater, a sunset awaits, making you want to return again and again.
Architecture as a time machine
Elysium is built in a palace style, drawing inspiration from the Byzantine era, but the architects didn't limit themselves to just one era. The design seamlessly blends elements of the Greek, Roman, medieval, and Venetian periods: colonnades, mosaics, arches, warm honey-colored stone, marble, and wood. The result is not a stylized antique, but a vibrant space where every corner evokes the rich history of Cyprus.
The complex consists of a main four-story building and 12 villas surrounded by landscaped gardens. Villas with private pools, two-level maisonettes in the traditional local architecture with terracotta roofs, presidential and executive suites—a total of 287 rooms, each with its own character and a balcony or terrace.
Why stay at Elysium
A location in the heart of history. The hotel stands on the seafront in the historic center of ancient Paphos, literally bordering the UNESCO-listed Tombs of the Kings—the monumental tombs of aristocrats from the 4th century BC. The picturesque Paphos harbor is a 10-minute drive away, and Aphrodite's Rock, where, according to legend, the goddess of love was born from the foam of the sea, is 20 minutes away. All of Paphos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Elysium is the only hotel that allows you to wake up within this history.
Opium Health Spa—a world-class spa. Nine treatment rooms, including a Thai massage room and rooms with private showers, offer treatments using ESPA products, aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, and sea therapy. A separate private suite for couples with a Jacuzzi and infrared sauna is also available. Guests note that the standard of treatments is among the best in Cyprus, and the spa's atmosphere truly acts as a retreat from the outside world.
Five gastronomic restaurants: Ristorante Bacco offers authentic Italian cuisine in an intimate setting, OShin offers Japanese and Pan-Asian cuisine, Mediterraneo offers Mediterranean dishes al fresco just steps from the sea, Epicurean offers signature cuisine with an emphasis on local ingredients, and Lemonia Piazza is the main restaurant with a generous breakfast. Many guests admit that, despite the abundance of restaurants nearby, the food at Elysium is so good that they want to stay in every evening.
Multi-level pools and a private beach. Three outdoor pools, surrounded by gardens, create an oasis of tranquility. A lavender path leads to a secluded sandy bay. Royal Wing guests have a separate adults-only pool. The indoor heated pool is open year-round. Beach service is on par with the world's best resorts: staff help with sun loungers, bring ice-cold towels, and even clean sunglasses.
Fragrance Garden and Amphitheater. The air is filled with the scents of jasmine, citrus, and olive trees. Guests watch the sunset from the amphitheater steps—a daily ritual they can't miss.
Service that anticipates your every need. Twice-daily housekeeping with an evening turn-down ritual, a pillow menu, complimentary fruit in the room, upgrades subject to availability, and personalized assistance at reception. Guests often describe the service in their reviews as "beyond five stars."
Tennis, diving, fitness. Two tennis courts, a PADI diving school, a gym with TechnoGym equipment, and group aerobics, aqua aerobics, and Pilates classes.
Best for you
History and architecture buffs. If you value your accommodation as part of a cultural context, Elysium is the perfect choice.
Couples. A romantic atmosphere, a spa suite for two, seaside dinners, and sunsets from the amphitheater create special moments.
Families. Angels Kids Club (ages 3–12), Angels Creche crèche (ages 4 and up), children's pools with slides, and a playground in the garden.
For those seeking relaxation. This is away from the bustle of Patong or the noisy streets. The hotel is located in a quiet part of Paphos, but bars and restaurants are a five-minute walk away.
What to consider before booking
Room view. If you want a sea view, be sure to choose a Sea View room. Some guests booking a "partial sea view" received views of the road and excavations.
Beach. The hotel's beach area is a picturesque bay, but rocks and seaweed make entry into the sea not always comfortable. The beach is perfect for relaxing on sun loungers, but for swimming, it's worth the walk to Coral Bay.
Restaurant Prices. The food on site is high-quality, but not inexpensive. Many guests choose half board or visit the nearby tavernas for a varied evening meal.
Seasonality. The heated indoor pool is open from November to March, making the Elysium attractive even in the low season.
