Preston travel guide and discussion

Rise if officially my favourite brunch spot in Preston! Preston has a lot of decent cafes but Rise is definitely that one that makes me want to return repeatedly!! First off the interiors of this place is just cosy and dreamy they play on a lot of pastel tones. Then off to the menu, which is EXTENSIVE! covering breakfast rolls to smoothie bowls all the way to big brunch plates, sandwiches and sweets! Their french toast is simply top notch and some of my all time favourites, the toast is always super soft on the inside. Although the flavours and toppings change seasonally, never had they disappointed! This brand is amazing, it started off 6 years ago in Preston, and now they have expanded into York and Liverpool and another outlet in Preston. 📍 Rise Brunch #foodlocity #foodlocityinuk #brunch #coffee #toast #preston #england #lancashire

The Ribble valley is becoming well know for its country pubs serving a fantastic array of food. Places like the Parker’s Arms and The Freemasons are often in top 10 list of the country’s gastropubs. This often means getting a table is often a bit of a challenge especially if your visit to the area is a last minute decision. On the edge of the town of Longridge lies an alternative, The Derby Arms. Here you can cosy up by the warm fire in a traditional setting whilst eating from its wide ranging and quality menu. #voyagevibes #Countrypub

Longridge is a small town just north of Preston but its surrounding area is where its scale changes. The market town lies on the edge of one of Britain’s most remote areas of outstanding natural beauty. The villages of Chipping, Whitewell and Newton in Bowland with their high class country pubs are only a short drive away and with fantastic walks such as Longridge and Beacon fells as well as the Tolkien trail in the area, make Longridge you next staycation spot or day trip. #Lancashire #Forest

The county town of Lancashire, many northbound trains have to transfer here. A typical northwestern industrial city, of course, has long been de-industrialized. Almost two streets are so big. The city's bus station is a classic of brutalist architecture. Of course, if you are not interested in architecture, you will only feel ugly. The park and trail by the canal are beautiful, and it's okay to take a walk when the weather is good. If you transfer here and have plenty of time, you can stroll around.

The train departing from London Euston slowly slid into the platform. The 2-hour journey no longer sees the once familiar Virgin trains. 'Welcome to Lancashire,' reads the sign above the exit dome, and most of the taxis queuing outside have been replaced by trams. The weather is a rare sunny day in the UK, starkly different from the first time I stepped into this city. Preston is located north of Manchester, 40 minutes from Manchester Piccadilly Station, and 50 minutes from Manchester Airport. It takes 20 minutes from Preston to the traditional British seaside resort of Blackpool. I spent my youth studying abroad in Preston, once setting off from here to various places and meeting different people. I hope I can come back often in the future.

My husband and our two friends stayed at the Alua Calas for a week. The sea view room was beautiful, with fresh towels provided daily. The beds were extremely comfortable. I recommend bringing a small extension lead, as there aren’t many sockets available. My friend and I joined the Aquarobics class, which was so much fun. The Animation Team worked incredibly hard to entertain guests and were great at encouraging participation. The food was excellent, and fresh omelettes with your choice of ingredients were available at breakfast. Complimentary wine is served during the evening meal (I had the red, and it was quite good). There's also a snack bar that opens within half an hour after the dining room closes, so you’re never at risk of going hungry. Karen in the Reception Bar, originally from Preston, made checking in delightful with her friendly attitude and serving cocktails. The Bloody Marys were fantastic, and we enjoyed the daily cocktail specials each time. The only downside is that there’s not much to do outside the hotel if you enjoy exploring. Also, the steps leading to the beach lack a handrail and are quite dangerous. Adding handrails to the steps leading to the hotel pool would also be helpful, as we saw a few people slipping there. Overall, it’s a lovely hotel with great staff, and I would definitely recommend it.

Booked a car rental in preston on Trip.com and selected the Ford Escape. While the platform provided a convenient booking process, my experience at the rental branch brought a few challenges worth sharing. Upon arrival, I noticed the car wasn't thoroughly cleaned, with noticeable dog hair inside. Although I requested a clean-up, the vehicle was returned in the same condition, so it's a good idea to check the car's cleanliness carefully before driving away 🚗. Another tip: be clear about your insurance arrangements! Even with coverage purchased through Trip.com, staff at the branch suggested additional insurance. If you are confident about your coverage, double-check your documentation and politely stand your ground. While the service at this particular branch could use improvement, Trip.com made the rental process straightforward. For fellow travelers, I recommend carefully inspecting your car and confirming your insurance details before taking the keys. #realreview

📍 Jawz Coffee, Preston 💻 WFH friendly 🚗 Plenty of parking 🍵 Uji Matcha Latte $6.80 🥥 Coconut Matcha Cloud $7.80 🥩 Giant Jawz Steak & Eggs $29.50 🐷 Thai Style Glazed Pork Belly $28.50 🍰 Black Sesame & White Choc Cheesecake $10 🥐 Bueno Scroll $6.50 Adding another cafe to the Melbourne WFH rotation because working from home apparently means working from anywhere except home 😭 Good food, good drinks, plenty of parking and such a lovely space to sit for a while. Also VERY happy to see more cafes taking their matcha seriously. Definitely one to save if you’re around Preston and need a cute little work + treat day 🍵💻

Haymarket station is Edinburgh city's second station. Most westbound trains departing from Waverley station stop here, making it easily accessible. The primary trains servicing this station are ScotRail, with routes to Glasgow, Dundee, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, and nearby locales. Additionally, LNER and CrossCountry trains connect to other Scottish cities, while Avanti West Coast trains heading to Birmingham and London and TransPennine Express services en route to Manchester and Preston also stop here. The station has five platforms, numbered 0–4. Platform 0 is a bay platform with limited train departures. Escalators, lifts, and staircases efficiently connect the concourse to the platforms. During my visit, I noticed ticket machines readily available along with staff who were very helpful with purchases, assistance, and inquiries. Amenities include an M&S food outlet on the concourse and spots to grab a hot drink. Outside, there’s a bus and tram interchange. Buses provide connections to various city locations and the airport, while the tram also offers a direct route to the airport. The station itself blends ancient and modern architectural styles seamlessly, resulting in a well-designed and practical space.

small town with the most wholesome vibe.

Located in the Waterloo neighborhood, very close to the train station, Lower Marsh sits on what was once a marshland drained in the 18th century—hence its name. Originally a marginalized area, it has undergone a tremendous transformation and now boasts a variety of shops, pubs, bookstores, and restaurants. Since the mid-19th century, the street has been home to the Lower Marsh Market, which in 2015 featured 77 stalls offering international culinary specialties, along with artisans, florists, jewelers, and more. The market adheres to strict sustainability practices, such as using biodegradable packaging, recycling oils, and relying on 100% renewable electricity. It operates Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and remains closed on weekends. This lively area is well worth a visit if you're nearby.

Nice..

Avenham park lovely to stroll through

Absolutely beautiful journey with so much scenery and wildlife #travel2026 #edinburgh

The most interesting part of the small town in the North of England called Preston is this park. Even on rainy day it is full of singing birds and the smell of fragrant flowers and trees. Park bustling with colours.
