Pskov travel guide and discussion

Locals call the Pskov Fortress Krom. It's more than just a fortification, it's the heart of the city, a reminder of veche assemblies and sieges. Krom was voted one of the top ten symbols of Russia in the 2013 "Russia-10" competition. 🛡️ Krom Krom is one of the oldest in Russia. By the 16th century, 37 towers stood along its perimeter; today, only seven remain. The oldest is the 30-meter-tall Kutekroma: Pushkin liked to relax near it in the 19th century. Inside, it's worth visiting Vechevaya Square and Dovmontov Gorod—an ancient quarter containing 17 churches, most of which only have foundations. The Vlasyevskaya Tower (31 meters) offers an observation deck overlooking the Krom and the confluence of the Velikaya and Pskova rivers. Admission is 150 rubles. Krom stands on a cape at the confluence of two rivers, so the fortress can be admired from the embankments as well. ⛪ Trinity Cathedral The main landmark of Krom is the snow-white Holy Trinity Cathedral, 78 meters high. This is the fourth church on this site: according to legend, the first wooden one was founded by Princess Olga, and the current building was built in 1699. Inside, a striking 42-meter seven-tiered iconostasis is featured. In 1935, the cathedral was closed and converted into an anti-religious museum—a Foucault pendulum even hung in the center. Relics: the relics of Princes Vsevolod-Gabriel and Dovmont, and Blessed Nicholas Salos (according to legend, he reproached Ivan the Terrible and saved the Pskov people from execution). The cathedral housed the treasury, archives, and seals of the Pskov Republic. 📍 Practical Information Address: Pskov, Kremlin Street, 6. Hours: Daily 8:00 AM–9:00 PM, admission until 8:00 PM. Tickets: 200 ₽ for the Krom; Trinity Cathedral is free. How to get there: From Moscow by train (~7–8 hours), from St. Petersburg (~3.5 hours). Tip: Climb the Vlasyevskaya Tower for the best views and visit the cathedral inside to see the iconostasis and ancient relics. #pskov #russia #wheretogo #tripmoments

Pskov is a wonderful destination for a short trip from St. Petersburg. It is about 290–300 km away by road, roughly a four-hour drive, and suddenly you find yourself in a completely different atmosphere — quiet streets, historic architecture and a slower pace of life. I found Pskov charming, peaceful and beautifully maintained. The historic centre is especially pleasant to explore on foot. There is no need to hurry here — you can simply wander through the streets, admire the old buildings, discover small green squares and occasionally find yourself by the water. The embankments are another highlight. The Velikaya and Pskova Rivers are an important part of the cityscape, and walking along the water is one of those simple pleasures that makes you want to slow down and stay a little longer. And, of course, there is Pskov Kremlin, or Krom. It stands on a high promontory where the Velikaya and Pskova Rivers meet and is the historic heart of the city. The complex includes the Krom itself, with its massive fortress walls and towers, as well as Dovmontov Gorod — an open-air archaeological area with the remains of ancient churches and buildings. The white Trinity Cathedral rises above the centre, while the powerful medieval walls make it easy to imagine Pskov as an important fortified city centuries ago. After exploring the city, I recommend stopping at Trapeznye Palaty. The Old Russian-style interior creates a wonderful historical atmosphere, while the menu is unusual not only because of the dishes themselves, but also because of their old-fashioned names. If you want to try something particularly authentic, look for “Zatirukha” made with wheat, dried borscht and cloudberry drink. Even reading the name feels like a little journey into the past. 😊 And there is one more place I would definitely add to the route. On your way back from Pskov, stop at Sokolikha Hill, home to the Ice Battle memorial. The monumental sculpture depicts Alexander Nevsky and his warriors. The hill also offers a panoramic view of the surrounding Pskov landscape. I love this kind of trip: a little history, plenty of walking, beautiful riverside views, ancient architecture, a memorable meal — and one final impressive stop before heading home. Pskov is definitely a place I would recommend adding to your travel list when exploring northwestern Russia. 💚 #Pskov #PskovTravel #RussiaTravel #PskovKremlin #Krom #PskovRegion #TravelRussia #RussianHistory #DayTrip #SaintPetersburg #Sokolikha #TravelMoments #TripMoments #hotdiscussions

When people think about Russia, they often imagine Red Square, snowy winters, politics, or giant cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg. But there’s another side of Russia that rarely makes headlines. 🌿 It’s the small rivers winding through quiet villages. Wooden houses surrounded by gardens. Elderly locals selling berries by the roadside. Endless forests, peaceful monasteries, and tiny towns where life moves at a completely different pace. One of the biggest surprises for many visitors is how green Russia is. 🌳 During summer, large parts of the country are covered in forests, wildflowers, lakes, and rivers. In some regions, you can drive for hours through nature without seeing a single large city. 🚂 Travel a little beyond the famous tourist routes and you’ll discover: · Ancient villages older than many modern countries · Hidden monasteries and churches surrounded by nature · Quiet riverbanks perfect for a summer picnic · Local markets selling honey, mushrooms, and homemade jams · Landscapes that feel more like a fairytale than a major world power 💡 Travel Tip: If you’re visiting Russia, don’t spend your entire trip in Moscow. Consider day trips or visiting smaller cities such as Suzdal, Vladimir, Pskov, or towns along the Golden Ring. That’s where many travelers find the country’s most authentic charm. 😄 Fun Fact: Russia has more forests than any other country on Earth. Sometimes it feels like the trees outnumber the people. Have you ever visited a place that was completely different from what the news made you expect? 🤔

Pskov Krom isn't about fancy decorative brickwork; it's all about imposing gray limestone, rugged towers, and the spirit of a free republic that held the line on Russia's western frontiers for centuries. What makes this place so special? · Prikaznaya Palata (Command Chamber): 17th-Century Bureaucracy in Detail 📜 This is the only surviving administrative "office" from that era in Russia. Inside, it's a total immersive experience: desks draped in broadcloth, quill pens, and rolled-up scrolls. Make sure to check out the Money Desk, which displays the hefty forged weights once used to calculate taxes. · Zakhab — The "Corridor of Death" 🏹 Walk between the two soaring walls at the entrance. In ancient times, this was a cunning trap: any enemy who breached the first set of gates found themselves funneled into a narrow corridor, caught in a deadly crossfire from the defenders above. · Dovmontov Town: Underground Temples ⛪ Often dubbed the "Russian Pompeii." Right outside the Krom walls, you'll spot the excavated foundations of dozens of 13th- and 17th-century churches. Looming above them is the famous "Shield and Sword" monument, erected to commemorate Alexander Nevsky's historic victory. · The View from the Flat Tower 🌊 Head all the way to the very "tip" of the fortress, where the Pskova River flows into the Velikaya. The Flat Tower sits right at the water's edge. In the old days, massive iron grates were lowered directly into the river here to block enemy boats. 🚉 How to get to Pskov: Pskov has become incredibly accessible, and getting here is a breeze: · From St. Petersburg: The best option is the "Lastochka" high-speed train. It runs several times a day (morning, afternoon, and evening). The trip takes just 3.5 hours. · From Moscow: The premium "Pskov" night train runs daily. Hop on in Moscow in the evening, and by morning, you'll be right in the city center. Flights are also available (just 1 hour and 20 minutes in the air). · By Car: From St. Petersburg via the Kiev Highway (Route R-23) — about 290 km (4–5 hours, depending on traffic). 💡 Tips: · Tickets: Budget around 700 rubles for an all-access pass to the towers and the Prikaznaya Palata. · Authentic Snacks: There's a traditional refectory right inside the Prikaznaya Palata building. Try the local sbiten — it’s an absolute lifesaver after a breezy walk by the water.

There's a place in Pskov where history is carved in stone and felt on the skin. This is the High (Voskresenskaya) Tower of the Pskov Kremlin. Approaching its foot, you realize you're standing before more than just a structure, but a silent veteran who has stood guard over the city for fifteen centuries, remembering the clanging steel of Dovmont's armor and the firm tread of Alexander Nevsky. Once, in the 15th century, under Ivan the Great, this tower was more than just "high." It was the key to an ingenious defensive system. Between it and the Flat Tower, menacing iron bars hung on chains—the "mouth" of Pskov, which mercilessly closed, barring enemy boats from entering the heart of the city along the Pskov River. But no fortress is eternal in the face of time. By the 20th century, only ruins remained of this mighty guardian, a sad reminder of the futility of all things earthly. But this tower had a fortunate fate. First, it was brought back to life in 1968, during the "thaw," and then given a new lease of life during the restoration of 2018-2021. Today, you can climb 34 meters up, poke your nose through the original loopholes, and see Pskov from a bird's eye view. The views of the river and the Kremlin are the main attraction, and they are priceless. Walk, like an ancient defender of the city, along the wall connecting the two towers—the High and the Varlaam Towers. Explore up close how brilliantly Italian craftsmen built these outposts 500 years ago. Yes, the tower has been almost completely recreated, but it's done so beautifully that it's breathtaking. The Varlaam Tower is a bit more interesting – there's a section of the wall under glass, revealing ancient masonry. And check out the roofs – a truly remarkable feat of engineering! #pskov #pskovkremlin #pskov #pskovKremlin #hightower #travel2026#travel#citydaytours

If you're planning to visit the Pskov Region, start your journey in Pskov. The city is easily accessible by train or car from Moscow (~7–8 hours) or Saint Petersburg (~3.5 hours). There's also an airport in the city 🛩️. In Pskov, make sure to visit the Kremlin, Trinity Cathedral, and the ancient churches. 📍 Not far from Pskov is the ancient town of Izborsk (≈30 km). Here, you'll find a 14th-century fortress, Slovene Springs, and picturesque hills. It's the perfect place to immerse yourself in the history of Ancient Rus. 🌊 Nearby is Lake Pskov with the islands of Zalit and Belov Island: serene landscapes and fishing villages. You can reach the islands by boat from Pskov (≈1 hour). This will be an unforgettable adventure. 🛶 To the north of the region is Lake Chudskoye, famous for the Battle on the Ice. The drive takes about ≈2 hours. Be sure to visit Pushkin Hills (≈120 km from Pskov), where you can explore museums, estates, and parks connected to the life and works of the great writer and poet Alexander Pushkin. Activities in Pskov: 🍺 Stop by the merchant Lapin's brewery — here you'll learn about the history of local beer and kvass, enjoy a tasting, and visit an art gallery. I recommend buying kvass — it's delicious. 🛶 Try kayaking around the Pskov Kremlin — a unique perspective of the city from the water. 🍽️ What to try from the local cuisine: Pskov pies, pike prepared in the Pskov style, mead, and smelt (small fish from Lake Pskov-Chudskoye).

A city steeped in history and culture, Pskov boasts a Kremlin that stands as one of the few well-preserved examples of medieval architecture in Russia. Every stone within its walls holds the memory of the past, drawing tourists with its unique architectural style and ancient atmosphere. Inside the fortress, visitors can find temples adorned with stunning frescoes that narrate the spiritual life of the city. Exploring these sites offers a chance to immerse oneself in the ambiance of bygone eras and forge a connection with one's roots. Along the banks of the Velikaya River, an inscription reads: "Russia begins here." This phrase is no mere coincidence, as Pskov symbolizes the origins of Russian statehood, culture, and traditions. The city's majestic appearance and rich historical legacy continue to inspire artists, writers, and poets. A trip to Pskov is a journey into the past, an opportunity to engage with the traditions and culture of Russia. It is a destination that deserves the attention of anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of the nation's history and spirit.

Pskov was a true revelation for me—a city rich in history and soul. It's incredibly quiet and peaceful. I highly recommend taking a trip there for at least two full days.

Continuing my series on the sacred sites of Bolshaya Ordynka and its surroundings, I’d like to share my experience visiting the spiritually significant Marfo-Mariinsky Convent. I found it without much trouble on Bolshaya Ordynka’s even-numbered side, about a 7-8 minute walk south of the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows. Firstly, this convent is the youngest in Moscow, founded just 117 years ago in 1909. Secondly, it was established by none other than Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna, elder sister of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and sister-in-law of Emperor Nicholas II. Thirdly, the convent’s origin is tied to the tragic death of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich, the Moscow Governor-General and son of Emperor Alexander II, who was assassinated by Ivan Kalyayev. After losing her husband, the grief-stricken grand duchess renounced secular life, sold her property, bought a plot on Bolshaya Ordynka in 1907, and set up this religious-charitable center. Fourthly, this convent wasn’t initially a traditional monastery with nuns living in seclusion, praying around the clock. Instead, it was created as a socially-oriented institution housing two types of sisters: full-fledged nuns who had taken monastic vows and Sisters of Mercy, who undergo a special dedication ceremony and work on social projects. The convent officially opened in February 1909, with its spiritual center initially being the chapel of Saints Martha and Mary, set up in one of the residential buildings. By 1912, however, a majestic masterpiece, the Cathedral of the Protection of the Holy Virgin, was built at the center of the monastery grounds based on a design by Alexey Viktorovich Shchusev. Shchusev is recognized as the only master in Russian architectural history to have excelled through three distinct epochs: pre-revolutionary Neo-Russian style, 1920s constructivism, and Stalinist architecture of the 1930s-40s. The cathedral, laid out in May 1908, was impressively completed in less than four years. It’s no wonder Shchusev was considered a leader of the national version of Art Nouveau—the Neo-Russian style. In his design for the cathedral, Shchusev skillfully infused recognizable elements of his signature style, giving a creative modern reinterpretation of ancient Russian architecture. The structure blends archaic proportions with central volume dynamics and features original asymmetry in its spatial composition and decorative details. The result borders on architectural grotesque but remains harmonious. To my amateur eye, Shchusev’s work draws inspiration from the Pskov and Novgorod school of church design, combined with exterior decorative elements typical of the Vladimir-Suzdal tradition, particularly those seen in the sacral architecture of Yuriev-Polsky. A striking feature is the cathedral’s diverse facades—none are identical, showcasing Shchusev’s unique take on modernity. Additionally, the two corner belfries with unusually elongated onion domes above the western section of the church are captivating. Words alone cannot do justice to this architectural wonder; I invite you instead to admire the photos I took during my visit. The Marfo-Mariinsky Convent, especially its centerpiece—the Cathedral of the Protection of the Holy Virgin—is a must-see spiritual and cultural site. Don’t miss it!

Check Trip.com for a "Pskov Walking Tour" that includes the cathedral and the Kremlin. The guide shares stories of the Pskov Republic and its struggle for independence. 3. The Mirozhsky Monastery: A Masterpiece of Frescoes The Mirozhsky Monastery is home to some of the most beautiful frescoes in Russia. The frescoes date back to the 12th century and cover the walls of the church. The colors are vivid. The history is fascinating. Come early. The monastery is quiet, and the light is beautiful. Budget Advice: The monastery has a small entrance fee. Buy a combined ticket on Trip.com that includes the monastery and the Pskov Museum. You save about 20%. The museum tells the story of the city and its people. 4. Food That Tastes Like Russia Russian food is hearty and satisfying. Try Borscht — beet soup with sour cream, a classic. Order Pelmeni — dumplings filled with meat, served with butter. And do not miss Pirozhki — small pies filled with meat, cabbage, or fruit. Where to Eat: Skip the expensive restaurants on the main square. Walk into the side streets and find Café Pskov or Restoran Velikaya, where locals eat. The food is authentic, and the prices are fair. Check Trip.com for set menu deals — some places include a glass of local beer when you book through the app. Where to Stay? Book on Trip.com a guesthouse in the center. Look for something on Sovetskaya or near the Kremlin. You will sleep in a renovated building with a view of the river, the sound of church bells at dawn, and the scent of linden trees. The evenings are quiet, and the stars are bright. Conclusion: Pskov is not a place you rush through. It is a place you breathe in. It is a city of ancient walls and cathedrals, of frescoes and rivers. It is a place where history is written in every stone. Russia is a country of vast landscapes, but Pskov is its northwestern soul. Come and walk the Kremlin at dawn. The walls are waiting. #trip_com #Russia #Pskov #pskovtravel #RussiaHiddenGems #VelikayaRiver #Kremlin #BudgetTravel #EuropeGuide #travelrussia #TrinityCathedral #MirozhskyMonastery #HiddenRussia #RussianHeritage #AncientCity

In Russia, some cities are known as the "cradle of Rus." Pskov is one of them. To grasp just how ancient it is, you need only open a school history book. Remember the early princes? Rurik, Oleg, Igor... Well, Prince Igor’s wife, Princess Olga—the first Christian to sit on the Russian throne—was, according to legend, born in the village of Vybuty, just outside Pskov. The city itself was first mentioned in the "Tale of Bygone Years" in 903, but archaeologists are certain that digging deeper reveals traces of settlements dating back 1,500 to 2,000 years. In the Middle Ages, Pskov was famous as the city of a thousand churches. About forty have survived to this day. Yet even now, as you walk through the city, you are constantly struck by the sheer number of temples here. 👀 What to See Here ✨ The Pskov Krom (Kremlin) It is unique among ancient Russian fortresses because it never fell under the influence of Italian architecture. Unlike the Moscow Kremlin, it is purely Russian in spirit. The Pskov Kremlin is authentic, monumental, and austere. It is exactly what a fortress in a free republic should be. There are no princely palaces here because the prince was an elected official. The main landmarks are the Trinity Cathedral and the Veche (assembly) Square. The Krom also sits at the confluence of two rivers, offering truly stunning panoramic views. ✨ Dovmont Town The remains of an ancient city located inside the Kremlin. This site is named after Prince Dovmont, who ruled the city in the 13th century. You will recognize Dovmont Town as soon as you pass through the Kremlin gates. The entire area is scattered with the foundations of ancient churches, merchant chambers, and other administrative buildings; it is believed that craftsmen used to live here. ✨ Trinity Cathedral The dominant feature of the Kremlin is this massive cathedral. I highly recommend going inside; the height of the iconostasis made a profound impression on me. We happened to be in the cathedral when it was empty in the evening—just us. The enormous iconostasis recedes into the darkness of the cathedral, seemingly endless. The current building dates back to the 17th century in the Moscow architectural style, but churches have stood here much longer. The first was built by decree of Princess Olga in the 10th century, though it was wooden and burned down 200 years later. ✨ Towers of the Pskov Fortress The Kremlin towers appeared much later, around the 15th century. The Vlasyevskaya, Rybnitskaya, Srednyaya, Vysokaya, Ploskaya, and Kutekroma towers are well-preserved today, providing a great sense of the fortress's original power. ✨ Administrative Chambers (Prikaznye Palaty) This building is also located within the Kremlin. Until 1692, a wooden administrative hut stood on this site before being replaced by this stone structure. It is worth visiting for the magnificent ancient stoves, which Pskov masters were so famous for. Be sure to look into the firebox—it is an entire separate room, albeit a small one. There is also an excellent reconstruction of a 17th-century administrative office. Everything described above can be seen in one place. Simply head to the center of Pskov and start walking. You'll need at least 3 hours, but plan for 6–8 hours for a full tour of the center including museum visits. 📍 4 Kremlin St. Open from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Guided tours are available on-site, usually daily at 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Prices: Entry to the grounds and the Kremlin walls is 200 rubles. A combined ticket including the chambers and towers is 700 rubles. ______________________________________________ 👀 What else to see in the city. ✨ Pogankin Chambers The name isn't very pleasant—the merchant was just unlucky with his surname (which sounds like the Russian word for toadstools). Despite the name sounding like some cursed place, it is a luxurious merchant building and a 17th-century architectural monument. Here, you can glimpse the lifestyle of a merchant family. The first floor was for trade, the second for living quarters, and the third housed the library and the owner's study. 📍 7 Nekrasova St., Pskov. Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM; closed on Mondays; the last Tuesday of the month is a cleaning day. Tickets start from 200 rubles. Information is current as of March 2026; please check official websites before visiting. ✨ The Pskova and Velikaya River Embankments It is simply pleasant to stroll along the Kremlin walls here, imagining how the ancient city was built. Dedicate one day just to walking around the city. There are many ancient Russian churches here. Pskov has preserved pre-Mongol frescoes, which can be found in the Transfiguration Cathedral of the Mirozhsky Monastery and the Snetogorsky Monastery. These are incredibly rare. ______________________________________________ ✨ Practical Tips From the train station to the Kremlin, it is a 15-minute walk or a 5-minute taxi ride. Here is a sample itinerary: start with the Krom (2 hours), head to the embankment, walk to the Pogankin Chambers (30 mins), and have lunch at a local cafe. There are many cafes serving Russian cuisine in the center; I recommend trying Pskov fish pies. In the evening, take a walk through the Zapskovye district. 📍 It is best to choose hotels near Sovetskaya Street or the embankment so that everything is within walking distance. Best time to visit: May to September. Winter has its own romance, especially during Epiphany. ______________________________________________ ✨ Why you should go to Pskov This city is full of history and unique events that were significant for our country. Pskov stood at a crossroads of trade routes and was therefore frequently attacked by enemies, of which it had many at the time: Poles, Swedes, German knights... The people of Pskov even had a saying back then: "One year we burn, one year we fight, one year we live." On Lake Peipus, near the shores of the Pskov region, the Battle on the Ice took place. Here, Alexander Nevsky and his army defeated the vaunted knights of the powerful Livonian Order. For a long time, Pskov remained a relatively free republic. Princes were elected at a popular assembly (veche). The city was successful in both trade and military endeavors. On March 2, 1917, in Pskov, the last Russian Emperor, Nicholas II, signed the manifesto of his abdication from the throne. The Pskov region is the only region in Russia that borders three foreign countries simultaneously: Estonia, Latvia, and Belarus. And this is just a small fraction of the interesting facts from Pskov's history. Indeed, Pskov rightfully claims the title of the city where Russian statehood began.

When people hear “Kremlin,” they think Red Square, crowds, and tourist buses. But there’s another one – Pskov Krom – and it’s nothing like Moscow‘s ✨ This is the real medieval Russia. No polished tourist traps. No endless queues. Just ancient stone walls, a thousand years of history, and the kind of silence that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time 🤍 Why it‘s underrated: 🏛️ Older than Moscow – First wooden fortifications appeared here in the VIII century. Pskov Krom is one of Russia’s oldest fortresses, with its first stone walls dating back to the X–XIII centuries. ⚔️ One of Europe‘s mightiest fortresses – In the XV–XVI centuries, the Kremlin was considered one of the most powerful strongholds in Europe. Its walls stretched up to 10 km with towers reaching 40 metres high. It survived 26 sieges. Moscow’s Kremlin never saw that kind of action. 🏗️ No “new build” feel – Unlike many restored Kremlins, Pskov‘s doesn‘t look like a theme park. It feels authentic, weathered, and alive. The walls breathe history. #underratedspots

As soon as I crossed the bridge over the Velikaya River, I knew: this place is the real deal. The Pskov Kremlin doesn’t greet you with the sterile vibe of a museum, but with the raw power of its stone towers and the breeze off the water. The Trinity Cathedral is particularly breathtaking—it glows like a beacon of gold against the moody gray sky. The Church of Archangels Michael and Gabriel was the biggest surprise—its bell tower has a noticeable lean, and it’s not a bug, it’s a feature! They say it’s due to the soil, but it looks incredibly atmospheric. And the Pokrovskaya Tower—it's a massive fortress that makes you feel like a tiny ant standing next to it. On the culture side: the 12th-century frescoes at the Mirozhsky Monastery are a must-see. It’s a miracle they survived, and seeing them in person is something else. For foodies, you have to try snetok (a local favorite tiny fish) and gubniki (mushroom pies). They’re served in local cafes and are the perfect comfort food after a long walk. Key travel tips: · Best time to visit: Summer or early autumn. · Getting there: It’s a comfortable 3.5-hour ride from St. Pete on the "Lastochka" train. · Admission: There’s a small fee to enter the Krom (Kremlin), but it’s totally worth it. · Souvenirs: Look for wrought iron—Pskov is famous for its blacksmithing. Pskov isn’t for rushing. It’s a city for slow strolls, quiet contemplation, and the feeling that you’ve truly touched eternity.

Just a few steps away are cozy embankments, parks, a theater, museums, and the heart of Pskov with its rich history. It was previously the site of Heinrich Meyer's twine factory, an architectural monument from the early 20th century. Back then, it housed a highly modern and profitable manufacturing facility.🧶🧵 The hotel grounds feature a signature Russian restaurant with a French twist and an intimate bar. Breakfast is served every morning from 7:30 to 11:00 AM in the bright dining room. 📍 The restaurant is located on the banks of the Velikaya River at 11 Voevody Shuyskogo St, Pskov. 🖌️ Opened in February 2024 in a renovated building originally constructed in 1950. The interior is styled after an intellectual's home, which the designer has dubbed "romantic brutalism." The second floor offers scenic views of the river embankment and the Mirozhsky Monastery. The name itself pays homage to the renowned physicist, Academician Isaac Kikoin. 🏆 A wonderful spot featuring signature cuisine. The menu is both interesting and truly unique. The food is delicious, and the staff are incredibly passionate about sharing its story! Expect friendly service and a creative presentation of dishes. The menu features borscht with brisket alongside a Borodinsky bread "Napoleon" with smalec—an absolute masterpiece, especially when served with their signature dill-pickle house infusion 🔥 The grilled dishes and house-baked bread are beyond praise! In the evening, when the streetlights turn on and the Krom walls are illuminated, the city feels truly magical. 💡 Travel Hacks: · Food: You have to try the Pskov smelt and the local "gubniki" (mushroom pies). · Souvenirs: Pick up some local blacksmith crafts. There's a reason the city is known as the capital of the "skobari" (ironmongers). · Getting around: You can easily explore the entire historic downtown on foot in a day, but it's better to plan for two so you can kick back on the embankment without rushing. 📍 Location: Pskov, Russia (just a 3.5-hour ride on the "Lastochka" high-speed train from St. Petersburg).

A beautiful old town. Whenever we travel to Belarus, we always stay in Pskov. Our favorite hotel is the Barcelona Hotel, a quiet, peaceful place in the very center of the city.

#hellohalloween Pskov is an ancient Russian city with a rich history. I visited the Kremlin, Holy Trinity Cathedral, and the Pogankin Chambers, enjoyed the wonderful views of the Velikaya River, and admired the ancient churches. The first mention of the city dates back to 903! Remarkably, it was never captured by enemies, although it was often attacked. This is because one of the largest ancient Russian fortresses, of which the Kremlin (Krom) is a part, was located on its territory. ✨ ✨Ten churches in Pskov are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. I stayed at the Old Estate Spa Hotel. A stay in a good hotel is wonderful, and a presidential suite is even better! Let me start by saying that it's located almost in the very center 🤍 The Pskov Kremlin is about a 10-minute walk away. The interior is medieval in style; I felt like I was in a castle! Armchairs and a luxurious fireplace add to the ambiance 💎 Another feature is the private sauna and bath, perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing ✨ And Pskov definitely has plenty to offer! #hotel #russia
