The store itself is quite old, and the layout is okay, but browsing can be difficult when crowded. The aisles can be narrow with carts running in every direction, and some areas can be a bit cluttered. You'll often find bargains, especially for bulk items, meat, and other essentials. The produce section is okay, but not overly crowded. Some days you'll find quality fresh produce, while others seem to have been left out for a while. The bakery and deli sections offer basic items, nothing fancy, but they're functional. The meat section is usually well-priced, though quality can fluctuate depending on the time of day you shop. It retains a rural feel and convenience, and is a suburban town where many locals choose to settle. ⸻ 🚗 Transportation · Train: From Britomart Station, you can take the Southern Line to Pukekohe Station, which takes about 1 hour. However, please note that you may need to transfer to a shuttle bus during certain periods (it is recommended to check the Auckland Transport timetable). · Self-driving: It takes about 50-60 minutes to drive from the city center, and you can turn south along the SH1 highway and turn to SH22. Parking is convenient in the city. ⸻ 📝 Personal experience Pukekohe is a town that I unexpectedly like. It is not as lively as popular attractions, but gives people a very pure sense of life. The farmer's market (Pukekohe Market) every Saturday is the main purpose of my visit. There are many vendors in the town square, and the things they sell are very local: fresh fruits and vegetables, handmade bread, jams, fragrances, and the warm feeling of children selling lemonade. I bought a cup of coffee and a homemade meat pie casually, sat in the square while eating and basking in the sun, watching the locals coming and going, and really felt like "If I lived in New Zealand, I would choose this place." There are also several unique cafés and vintage shops nearby. Pukekohe Town Square, the library, and the church area are all suitable for walking slowly and taking pictures. If you are a car fan, Pukekohe Park Racetrack was also the venue for V8 Supercars (although it is no longer held, the venue can still be visited). The menu is mostly vegan with a few vegetarian options and it was a delight to visit. The vegan nachos were great, apart from the sweet coconut yoghurt it was served with. It tastes very good. With vegan sour cream now on offer across NZ grocers, that would be my go-to for this dish.
