The Bluest Beach in the World? Albania’s Mirror Beach Is Breaking the Internet 💙🌊
Mirror Beach (aka Plazhi i Pasqyrave) is hands-down one of the most epic spots on the Albanian Riviera—think jaw-dropping white pebbles and water so blue, it’ll literally make your Insta followers do a double-take. Located between Saranda and Ksamil, this hidden gem has been popping off online ever since a viral 2024 color-mapping study crowned it as the “bluest water in the world.” Yep, it even beat out iconic destinations like Bora Bora and the Maldives! 🤯
Here’s the scoop:
· Address: Plazhi i Pasqyrave, SH81, near Saranda (about a 15-min drive south), Albania
· Opening hours: Open daily, sunrise to sunset (pro tip: get here early if you want the cove to yourself!)
· Entry: Free beach access, but bring cash for sunbed rentals or beachside drinks
What makes this place sooo good? The pebbles reflect the sunlight, making the water color insanely vibrant—like neon blue IRL. The cove stays chill, since most crowds hit the bigger beaches, and Mirror Beach is low-key perfect if you crave those viral paradise vibes without the insane price tag.
Planning your own trip? Book your stay in Saranda or Ksamil with trip.com—both towns are packed with cute hotels, local eats, and major FOMO-inducing views. Don’t forget to bring your best camera and plenty of SPF. This spot is seriously next-level, and you’ll want to stay all day (or even come back tomorrow 😉).

Ksamil: Respect the Paradise of the Albanian Riviera 🌊🏝️#LocalRules
#localrules
Ksamil is one of Albania's most stunning beach destinations, famous for its crystal-clear turquoise water, white pebbled beaches, and small islands just offshore. Its natural beauty attracts visitors from around the world, and following a few simple local rules helps keep this coastal paradise clean and enjoyable for everyone.
Always use the rubbish bins or take your waste with you, as keeping the beaches clean is essential. If you rent a sunbed or umbrella, follow the beach operator's guidelines and respect designated swimming and boating areas. Avoid stepping on marine plants or disturbing sea life while snorkeling, and never remove shells or natural objects from protected areas.
During the busy summer season, be patient in queues, keep noise to a reasonable level, and respect other visitors' space. Supporting local cafés, restaurants, and family-run businesses is also a great way to contribute to the local community while enjoying authentic Albanian hospitality.
These simple local rules make a big difference in preserving Ksamil's beauty. By respecting nature and the local community, you'll help ensure this incredible destination remains just as beautiful for future travelers.
What local rule do you think every beach traveler should follow, no matter where they go?

Albania’s Blue Eye: Nature’s Hypnotic Wonder 💎
If you’re hunting for your next jaw-dropping Insta spot in Albania, you seriously CAN’T skip The Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër)! 💧 Located about 22–25 km northeast of Saranda (look it up on trip.com for the best routes!), this unreal natural karst spring is a whole vibe.
Here’s the lowdown: crystal-clear water rushes up from a mysterious underground river, swirling into a shape that literally looks like a blue eye—yep, the deep core forms a pitch-black “pupil” ringed by a wild, cobalt-blue “iris.” It’s SO stunning in person, your camera might freak out. 📸
Address: Syri i Kaltër, Vlorë County, about 1 km from the main road between Saranda & Gjirokastër
Opening Hours: Open daily, usually from sunrise to sunset (but double-check on trip.com for seasonal details before you go!)
No matter what time you visit, the whole place has a magical, almost otherworldly feel. The spring is super cold—like, freeze-your-toes-off cold—but so fresh! You can’t swim, but dipping your hands in is a must-try. There’s also a cute little café nearby where you can chill and take it all in.
Pro tip: Arrive early for crowd-free pics and unbeatable morning light—you won’t regret it! 👀✨
This hidden gem is a true Albanian bucket-list destination. Add it to your plans and let The Blue Eye blow your mind!

Literal pools of turquoise perfection that change shades all day. It’s a dreamy spot for swimming, beach lounging, or even just living your best Instagram life with those unreal views! 📸✨

If you’re planning a visit, the beach is super easy to find—pop “Ksamil Beach, Ksamil 9706, Albania” into your maps and you’re all set! The best time to roll up is during summer (June–September) when the sun is blazing and the cafes scattered along the shoreline are open daily from 8:00 AM to midnight.

🇦🇱 Unforgettable Albania: Ancient Berat and the Mesmerizing Blue Eye
Just got back from an incredible journey through Albania, and I can't wait to share the highlights! This country is an absolute gem, blending historical wonders with breathtaking natural beauty. For anyone planning a trip to the Balkans, Albania is an absolute MUST.
My itinerary focused on two main areas: the ancient city of Berat and the natural wonders around Sarandë. Both exceeded all my expectations.
Part 1: The 'City of a Thousand Windows' - Berat
We started in Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its unique Ottoman architecture. Walking through the narrow, cobbled streets is like stepping back in time.Part 1: The 'City of a Thousand Windows' - Berat
We started in Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its unique Ottoman architecture. Walking through the narrow, cobbled streets is like stepping back in time.
Image 1: Postcard from Berat
This wide shot captures the signature look of Berat. See how the white, stone houses with their endless windows cascade down the hillside? It's even more spectacular in person. The Berat Castle sits atop the hill, watching over the city and the Osum River below. The architecture is incredibly well-preserved.
The view from the castle is breathtaking (see the high mountains in the distance, much like the peaks we saw earlier on our drive through the country, like in image_0.png). The cobbled streets within the castle walls are charming.
Image 2: Exploring the Citadel
Here’s a shot from inside the Berat Citadel (Kalaja). The narrow passageways are paved with worn stone, and old houses are built right into the fortifications. The air was warm, and the whole place felt serene and ancient. I loved finding these quiet corners. After the history of Berat, we headed south towards Sarandë for some nature.
Part 2: The Hypnotic Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër)
This was the absolute highlight of the trip for me! The Blue Eye is a water spring and natural phenomenon that you have to see to believe.
Image 3: The Hypnotic Blue Eye
Photos do not do this justice, but this one comes close. The water is impossibly clear and vibrant blue in the center, fading to bright turquoise. It’s surrounded by lush, dense forest, creating a perfect hidden oasis.Image 4: The Scale and the Source
To give you an idea of the depth, here’s a shot looking deeper down into the spring from a slightly higher vantage point. A small, rustic viewing platform (which you can just see) lets you get right above the source. Divers have gone down over 50 meters, and the pressure is so intense the water just pumps out. The surrounding jungle-like foliage is incredibly dense, creating a cool microclimate (the forest density here reminds me of the lushness we saw in image_1.png on our way south).

Some places don’t need to be famous to be unforgettable.
#underratedspots Some places don’t need to be famous to be unforgettable. Hidden among the green landscapes of southern Albania, The Blue Eye feels like one of nature’s quietest masterpieces. The water rises from deep beneath the earth, creating an incredible pool of blue that seems almost impossible to be real. Surrounded by dense trees and untouched greenery, the contrast between the vivid water and the natural landscape makes the place feel completely different from anywhere else. There is something peaceful about standing beside the spring and simply watching the colors change with the light. No dramatic buildings, no crowded streets—just clear water, green forests, and the sound of nature around you. Maybe that’s what makes places like this so special. They don’t need to be the most famous destination on your list. Sometimes the best travel memories come from discovering somewhere that still feels like a secret. The Blue Eye is exactly that kind of hidden beauty. 💙🌿 #underratedspots #TheBlueEye #SyriIKalter #Albania #HiddenGems

🇦🇱 The Albanian Riviera Ruined Other Beaches For Me
I booked Greece. Then I saw the prices. A friend said "just go to Albania instead." I didn't expect much. What I found was the Mediterranean of thirty years ago. Empty coves. Turquoise water. Villages where grandmothers bring you homemade rakia before you've even ordered. This is the coastline Europe forgot to tell you about. Here's how I discovered it.
🚐 7:00 AM — The Road That Hugs The Cliffs
The drive from Saranda to Himarë follows a road cut into the mountainside. Every turn reveals a new bay. I took the local minibus because I'm not brave enough to drive these roads myself. The driver played 90s Albanian pop music. The old woman next to me offered me sunflower seeds. The sea sparkled a thousand feet below. I pressed my face against the glass like a child.
💸 400 lek (about 4 USD)
📍 Coastal road @Saranda to @Himarë
🌊 9:00 AM — Gjipe Beach Before The Boats Arrive
Gjipe is not easy to reach. You drive to a dusty parking lot, then walk thirty minutes through a canyon. At the end, the canyon opens onto a perfect crescent of white pebbles and water so clear it looks Photoshopped. I arrived at 9 AM. Nobody else was there. I swam alone in a canyon that echoed with the sound of waves. By noon, a few boats arrived. By then I'd already had paradise to myself.
🆓 Free
📍 @Gjipe Beach
⏰ Early morning or nothing
☕ 12:00 PM — Coffee With A View That Costs Nothing
Albanians take coffee seriously. In the village of Vuno, perched on a hill above the sea, I found a small café with a terrace hanging over the edge of the world. The owner brought me an espresso so thick the spoon almost stood up in it. Below me, the entire coast unfolded. Corfu floated on the horizon. I paid 70 lek. Seventy. That's less than a dollar.
💸 70 lek (about 0.70 USD)
📍 Café terrace in @Vuno
🏖️ 2:00 PM — The Beach Where Cows Swim
Livadhi Beach is a long curve of pale sand. At the far end, away from the few sunbeds, a cow wandered down to the water's edge. It waded in up to its shoulders. It stayed there for half an hour, just cooling off. I swam nearby. We shared the sea. An Albanian family nearby didn't even look up. Apparently this is normal here. I loved it.
🆓 Free
📍 @Livadhi Beach
🍽️ 3:30 PM — Lunch At A Farm That Became A Restaurant
Between Dhërmi and Drymades, a family turned their olive farm into a restaurant. It's called Farma e Sopotit. No menu. Just what they grew and raised and picked that morning. Goat cheese drizzled with mountain honey. Grilled vegetables still warm from the sun. Lamb cooked under an iron lid covered in coals. I ate under a grape arbor. The grandmother walked past and patted my shoulder. "Te befte mire," she said. May it do you good.
💸 1200 lek (about 12 USD)
📍 @Farma e Sopotit
🌅 6:00 PM — Himarë Old Town At Golden Hour
Himarë has an old town on a hill above the new town. It's mostly abandoned. Crumbling stone houses. A church with a bell tower. Narrow alleys overgrown with bougainvillea. I walked up as the sun began to set. The stone walls glowed gold. Below, the bay was a sheet of hammered copper. I was completely alone. A cat followed me. She seemed to own the place.
🆓 Free
📍 Old town above @Himarë
🍷 8:00 PM — Wine With A Pirate
Back by the sea, a man named Kosta runs a bar built from driftwood and old fishing nets. He calls himself a retired pirate. I don't know if I believe him, but he pours a glass of local red wine that tastes like plums and salt air. His bar is basically a wooden shack on the beach. Fairy lights. Reggae music. The waves lap three meters from your feet. I stayed until the moon rose over the sea.
💸 300 lek (about 3 USD) per glass
📍 Driftwood bar on @Himarë Beach
🌌 10:30 PM — Swimming In Phosphorescence
Kosta told me about the phosphorescence. Late at night, the plankton in the bay glow when disturbed. I walked into the water in the dark. Every movement of my hands left trails of blue light. I floated on my back and stared at the Milky Way. The water glowed. The sky glowed. I was suspended between two galaxies. This is not an experience you pay for. It's one you earn by showing up.

🏨 Where I Stayed (And Woke Up To Waves)

💡 Five Things Albania Taught Me
· Cash is king. Almost nowhere accepts cards on the riviera.
· "Faleminderit" is thank you. "Po" is yes. "Jo" is no. That's enough to start.
· Trip.com eSIM worked perfectly even on remote beaches.
· The bunkers everywhere are from the communist era. They're now part of the landscape.
· Don't rush. Albania moves at its own rhythm. Yours doesn't matter here.

Albania Saranda to Ksamil Islands: Ionian Turquoise Bay Hopping — €10 Boat Ride or Free Crowds?
I based myself in Saranda and took the local bus (Lezhë-Ksamil line, €1.50, exact change in Albanian Lek required) to Ksamil, 20 minutes south. The main draw is the trio of tiny islands just offshore, accessible by kayak or a small motorboat shuttle (€10 round trip, negotiable). I opted for the boat at 10 am before the wind picked up. The water clarity is insane—I could see my toes at 8 meters depth. However, the "islands" are essentially glorified rocks with a patch of sand; I spent 45 minutes on the largest one before the heat and lack of shade drove me back. Back on the mainland, I walked to Pasqyra Beach (Mirror Beach), which has better sand but was packed by noon. Food at the Ksamil waterfront is cheap: a grilled squid plate for €7 and a 500ml beer for €2.50. Mistake: I didn't bring water shoes; the entry into the sea is sharp shells and rocks. Another error: visiting in July—the Albanian Riviera is heaving with domestic tourists. If you want the same turquoise water without the chaos, drive 15 km north to Lukova Beach. Worth it? The boat ride is a fun splurge, but the real beauty is the Ionian color, which you can enjoy for free from the shore. Question: Is paying €10 for 45 minutes on a crowded island rock worth it when the mainland beach offers the same water for free?

Albania 🇦🇱 Europe Where You Can Still Find Silence, Sea, and Prices from the Past
While everyone heads to Greece and Spain, Albania remains a place where the quality of a holiday rivals its neighbours but the prices are a pleasant surprise. The country hasn't yet been spoiled by mass tourism, keeping that "lively" authentic atmosphere.
✨Why you should go:
· Budget paradise 💰: Albania ranks among the top three most affordable destinations in Europe. Dinner for two costs around $29–47, and a 4-star hotel room goes for $70–129 per night. Airbnb averages about $50, and lunch is under $10.
· Albanian Riviera 🏖️: Beaches in Ksamil, Himarë, and Dhermi offer turquoise water just like the Greek islands — but without the crowds and inflated prices.
· Unique landscapes 🏔️: The northern Albanian Alps (Bjeshkët e Nemuna) offer epic hiking trails — like the Valbona Pass at 1,759 metres, where you can escape the summer heat for fresh mountain air.
· Incredible safety 🛡️: Travellers rate Albania 84 out of 100 for safety — making it the safest option among budget destinations.
· Hospitality 🤝: Albanian hospitality has become a hallmark of the country — people here genuinely welcome visitors.
🤩What to see in 5 days:
Day 1–2: Tirana 🏛️
The capital with colourful building facades, transformed communist architecture, and a lively café culture. Must-sees: the Pyramid of Tirana and Et'hem Bey Mosque.
Day 3: Gjirokastër 🏰
An open-air museum city. Gjirokastër is a UNESCO World Heritage site — explore the hilltop castle with panoramic views, the old bazaar, and the Ethnographic Museum.
Day 4: Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër) 💧
A natural spring with crystal-clear water and a vivid blue colour visible down to 50 metres. Surrounded by forest and silence — perfect for meditation and stunning photos.
Day 5: Albanian Riviera 🌅
A full day of relaxation on one of the beaches — in Ksamil or Dhermi. Clear water, mountains meeting the sea, and long, lingering sunsets.
⭐️Tips
· Where to stay: Korçë is a budget option with hotels under $50/night — Mediterranean charm despite being inland.
· Getting around: From Tirana, you can easily reach any region. Public transport costs around $1.17.
· Best time: Spring and autumn — perfect weather, fewer crowds, and stunning autumn colours in the mountains.
· What to try: Mediterranean cuisine with a Balkan twist. Look out for local wines and "slow food" in the Permët region.
🌍 Note: Albania is one of the few places in Europe where the quality of travel still exceeds its cost. Visit before everyone else discovers it.

Blue Eye: Protect Albania's Natural Wonder 💙🌿#LocalRules
#localrules
The Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër) is one of Albania's most breathtaking natural attractions. Its deep, crystal-clear spring and vibrant blue water create an unforgettable sight that looks almost unreal. Because this is a protected natural area, following local rules is essential to preserve its beauty.
Stay on the designated walking paths and avoid climbing over barriers or entering restricted areas around the spring. Although the water looks inviting, swimming is prohibited at the main Blue Eye spring to protect this fragile ecosystem. Never throw coins, food, or rubbish into the water, as even small actions can damage the natural environment.
Take only photos and leave only footprints. Respect the peaceful atmosphere by keeping noise low, and avoid disturbing wildlife. Supporting nearby local cafés and small businesses is also a great way to contribute to the local community while enjoying your visit.
Following these simple local rules helps ensure that the Blue Eye remains as clear and beautiful for future travelers as it is today. Protecting nature is everyone's responsibility.
Have you ever visited a natural place so beautiful that you wanted to help preserve it for future generations?

Closer than Switzerland, cheaper than Thailand! 90% of people haven’t been, and a 3k budget is enough for a week
Found a discount on flights to Albania and booked on a whim.
Turns out—a 3k budget really is enough for a week, with seafood every day.
Highlights first, all the way through👇
Saranda Blue Eye Spring: The water glows a blue-green, like a gem fallen into the forest. Step in barefoot, and the coolness hits your heart.
Ksamil Beach: Jelly-like sea with a glassy texture. Rent a sun umbrella for 15 and lounge all afternoon watching the sea.
Berat, the city of a thousand windows: White houses cover the hills, windows packed tightly. Watching the sunset from the castle, the world slows down.
Gjirokastër stone city: Ottoman stone houses. Climb the rooftops to see a sea of red tiles. Handmade silver jewelry is cheap and delicate.
Tirana pyramid: An abandoned museum turned into a big slope where young people slide down—wild and romantic.
How to spend 7 days?
Day 1 Tirana: See the pyramid, drink a 2-euro espresso from the street.
Day 2 Berat: Stay in an old stone house, listen to the landlord’s family stories.
Day 3–4 Saranda: Blue Eye + Ksamil, soak in the sea for two days.
Day 5 Gjirokastër: Wander the alleys, buy handmade copperware.
Day 6 Back to Tirana to restock, visit the local market.
Day 7 Buy honey and olive oil, then fly out.
What’s cheap and tasty?
Byrek pies—1.5 euros each, spinach and cheese filling that’s piping hot.
Tavë Kosi—baked lamb with rice, rich in yogurt flavor.
By the sea, order grilled sea bass with tomato salad, about 70 RMB per person to eat until full.
A few practical tips
Visa-free, just use a blank passport.
Don’t count on card payments, bring extra euros to exchange for lek.
Buses are cheap, but Furgon (minivans) are better for mountain roads.
Summer is scorching, so use sunscreen well. Cover your arms before entering mosques.
Before it becomes the next Greece, go now.

What I eat in Albania.
For anyone worried about what to eat in Albania, let me share some food pics from my trip! The food is pretty similar to typical Western cuisine. 😋
The food here focuses on fresh ingredients with mild flavors, making it really easy to enjoy. Almost every meal comes with bread, white cheese (Albanian White Cheese/Feta), cucumbers, and tomatoes. The veggies are incredibly fresh! 🥒🍅
Some of the dishes we tried include: 🥣 Hot vegetable soup paired with homemade bread. 🐟 Grilled fish topped with a creamy sauce, served with potatoes and veggies. 🍰 Trileçe, a famous dessert that is so soft it just melts in your mouth. If you have a sweet tooth, you absolutely have to try it!

Our highlights included relaxing at Ksamil Beach, Bora Bora Beach, and Poda Beach, enjoying crystal-clear turquoise water and amazing sunsets. We also explored the lively Sarandë promenade, tried delicious seafood and local Albanian food, and took in the stunning coastal scenery.
Sarandë is a perfect destination if you’re looking for beautiful beaches, great food, and good value for money. We would definitely visit again and highly recommend it to anyone planning a summer holiday in Europe. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

🌊✨ Mirror Beach – Albania's Hidden Gem ✨🌊
If you're looking for crystal-clear turquoise water, breathtaking views, and a peaceful escape, Mirror Beach (Plazhi Pasqyrave) is a must-visit 🇦🇱💙
The beach gets its name from the way the sun reflects on the water, creating a magical mirror-like effect. Whether you're swimming, relaxing, or taking stunning photos, this place will leave you speechless. 📸🏖️
🚗 Tip: It's highly recommended to have a car, as getting there can be difficult with public transportation, and having your own vehicle makes exploring the area much easier.

Albania truly hides a "Blue Eye"|The most delightful stop on a four-country trip
💧 The most delightful stop on the trip
This time in Albania, what caught my eye the most wasn’t the popular cities, but the Blue Eye spring. The moment I saw the spring water with my own eyes, it really felt like stepping into a secret realm—the water is a crystal-clear blue-green, like a gem melted into the forest.
Highlights:
The most special thing about the Blue Eye spring is that the water color changes with the light. In the morning, it’s more transparent, and in the afternoon when the sunlight hits at an angle, it turns bluer. Unlike ordinary attractions where you just “check in and take photos,” walking slowly along the trail while listening to the sound of the spring calms you down. The vegetation around the spring is dense, the air is moist, and even in summer it doesn’t feel too hot.
Photo spots:
I recommend two spots: one is a low angle close to the spring’s source to capture the water’s texture and the blue center; the other is standing a bit farther on the trail, using the forest as the foreground and hiding the spring in the greenery, which makes the photo more storytelling. Try to avoid shooting at noon with harsh light, as the water surface can easily be overexposed. Morning or evening shots are better.
Tips to avoid trouble:
The roads around the Blue Eye spring aren’t very wide, and parking and the entrance can get crowded during peak season. It’s best to arrive early to avoid the midday crowds; don’t wear very light-colored shoes as it can get slippery near the water; and don’t just take photos of the spring itself—the nearby forest trails and mossy rocks also have a great atmosphere.
If you’re tired of the usual islands and ancient cities, this stop in Albania is really worth adding to your itinerary. It’s not the kind of spot that stuns you at first glance, but it will make you realize “Europe still has such quiet and clear places.”

Amazing Adventure Through Albania and North Macedonia
We had an incredible journey last month to Albania and North Macedonia, guided by Ledio from Show Me Albania. Albania is an amazing destination, offering everything from gorgeous beaches and snow-covered mountains to historic landmarks and vibrant cities. The country’s modern history is just as captivating as its ancient past. Ledio was fantastic in showing us around and expertly managing the chaotic traffic—we simply couldn’t have done it without his support.
From the outset, we tailored the itinerary to our preferences, and everything was transparent—no unexpected changes to destinations or costs. Starting in Tirane, we traveled down the coast, visiting Vlore, Himare, Porto Palermo Castle, Sarande, Ksamil, and Butrint. Afterward, we headed inland to experience the Blue Eye, Gjirokaster, and Berat, two breathtaking cities known for their distinct castles and fortresses. We concluded our trip at Lin, Albania and Ohrid, North Macedonia, enjoying the serene beauty of Lake Ohrid.
We’re very grateful to Show Me Albania for ensuring we got the most out of our travels in Albania and North Macedonia!

POV: You found the Blue Eye in Albania 🇦🇱👁️ (Read This First!)
The videos don't lie — the water really is THIS blue. But before you add the Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër) to your Albanian itinerary, here are 3 things you need to know to survive the trip. Save this for later! 📌
1. Leave your swimsuit at the hotel 🚫👙
Swimming is strictly forbidden to protect the spring. And honestly? The water is a freezing 10°C (50°F) all year. You wouldn't want to jump in anyway!
2. The 2-Kilometer Hike 👟
They built a new parking lot, which means you have to walk about 30 minutes on a paved road to reach the water.
• The Ultimate Hack: Rent an electric scooter at the entrance! It costs just a few euros, saves you from the heat, and is super fun. 🛴💨
3. Beat the Tour Buses ⏰
By 11:00 AM, the viewing platform is packed. You won't get a clean video.
· Arrive right when it opens at 8:00 AM. The morning light hitting the "pupil" of the eye is stunning, and you will have the place to yourself.
📍 Location:
· The Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër), near Sarandë, Albania.
Would you jump into 10°C water for $1,000? 😂 Let me know below! 👇

Don't Make These Mistakes at Albania’s "Blue Eye" (Read Before You Go!)
Is it a portal to another dimension? The Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër) in southern Albania is a natural spring where the water is so clear and deep blue, it looks photoshopped
But visiting it has changed recently. If you are planning a trip to the Albanian Riviera, here is the ultimate survival guide to see this magic without the stress
1. The "No Swimming" Reality 🚫🥶
Let’s clear this up first.
· Officially, swimming is banned to protect the ecosystem (and there are guards).
· Even if you are tempted, the water is a freezing 10°C (50°F) year-round. You will get brain freeze just dipping your toes! Come for the photos, not a beach day
2. The Mystery of the Abyss 🕳️
Why is it called the Blue Eye?
· The dark center is the "pupil," and the light blue edges are the "iris."
· Crazy Fact: No one knows exactly how deep it is! Divers have reached 50 meters, but the water pressure from the underground spring is so strong it pushes them back up
3. Beat the Crowds (The Golden Rule) ⏰
This is the most popular day trip from Sarandë.
· By 11:00 AM, it is a nightmare of tour buses.
· The Hack: Arrive exactly at opening time (8:00 AM). You will have the viewing platform to yourself, and the morning light hitting the water is pure magic
4. The Logistics (Be Prepared to Walk) 👟
They built a new parking lot to protect the area.
· Once you park, it is a 2-kilometer walk (about 30 minutes) on a paved road to reach the spring.
· Pro Tip: If it is too hot, rent one of the electric scooters available at the entrance for a few euros. It saves a lot of time!
Verdict:
It is absolutely worth the hype, but timing is everything. Pair it with a visit to Gjirokastër for the perfect full-day trip
📍 Location:
· The Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër), near Sarandë, Albania.
Could you swim in 10°C water, or are you team heated pool? 🧊👇

Butrint National Park: Where Nature and Ancient History Breathe Together 🌿
#postandearn
#attractive
Deep in the southern corner of Albania, beside the calm waters of Lake Butrint, lies a place where civilizations have whispered through the centuries — Butrint National Park. A mosaic of nature, myth, and ruins, this UNESCO World Heritage Site tells a story 3,000 years in the making.
Wander through the ancient Greek and Roman ruins, where moss-covered theatres, temples, and baths rise from the forest. Stand on Roman stone roads, gaze at the still-reflecting waters of the Baptistery, and imagine the lives once lived within these walls.
Surrounded by lagoons, marshes, and lush greenery, Butrint is not just archaeological wonder — it’s an ecological treasure. Birdsong accompanies every step, and the air carries the scent of wild herbs and timelessness.
Whether you're a history lover or a seeker of serene landscapes, Butrint will leave you humbled and enchanted.
📍 Location: Butrint National Park, Vlorë County, Albania
🗺️ Top Tip: Combine your visit with a boat trip across Lake Butrint or explore nearby Ksamil for beach relaxation.

Theth Albania is so beautiful
Theth is the village at the centre of the Albania Alps, it is the perfect place to base yourself for a few days to explore the area. The best thing to do in Theth is hiking, there isn’t much to do in the town, so just keep this in mind if you plan on visiting.
The village area is beautiful, stunning views of the Albanian Alps and gushing rivers abound. As well as viewing the church and lock in tower in Theth village we did a couple of excellent hikes to The Blue Eye, Grunasi waterfall and Canyon of Grunas which is spectacular.
How to get to Theth from Shkoder:
To get to Theth from Shkoder you will need to book a minivan. This minivan only leaves once a day at 7am, so it’s important to book it. There are multiple companies, but spots are limited. You can do this at your accommodation, or you can go to the bus station in Shkoder and try your luck for a bus with availability. It’s recommended to arrive around 6.30am to catch the 7am bus.

🌍 How to Combine Sarandë with Ksamil: The Perfect Albanian Riviera Day
Dreaming of turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, and a bit of history? Sarandë and Ksamil make the ultimate duo on Albania’s Riviera — and they’re only 20 minutes apart. Here's how to combine both in a single (perfect) day or over a relaxed weekend:
☀️ Morning: Start in Sarandë
🏖️ Take a Seaside Stroll
Begin your day along Sarandë’s promenade. Grab a coffee with a sea view — locals love places like Haxhi or Mare Nostrum — and soak up the laid-back vibes.
🏛️ Optional: Lekuresi Castle
If you are up for a quick panoramic view, head to Lekuresi Castle (10-min drive uphill). You’ll get a stunning vista over both Sarandë and Ksamil — perfect for early photos before the heat hits.
🚐 Midday: Head to Ksamil
🚌 How to Get There:
By bus: Every 30–60 minutes in summer from Sarandë (approx. 100–150 lek)
By car or taxi: 15–20 minutes, super easy (taxis may charge €10–15)
By scooter or bike: Ideal for flexibility, but it can be hot in summer
🏝️ Ksamil: The Beaches You Came For
Now for the main event — Ksamil’s famous beaches. Think crystal-clear waters, beach bars, and tiny islands you can swim or kayak to.
Top Beaches to consider:
Ksamil Beach 9 & 10 – good mix of crowds + views
Bora Bora Beach – chill vibes, soft sand, bars nearby
Lori Beach – more local and relaxed
Private beach clubs (like Guvat or Cori) if you want comfy loungers
🛶 Tip: Rent a kayak or paddle boat to explore the Ksamil islets just off the shore!
🌅 Evening: Back to Sarandë
Return to Sarandë in the late afternoon.
Walk the promenade at sunset
Enjoy seafood dinner at places like Taverna Fish Filipi or La Petite
Grab a drink at rooftop bars like Sunset by the Sea or Jericho Cocktail Bar
📌 Final Tips
Time your trip: Ksamil gets crowded in July–August, so go early or off-season if you can
Transportation: Buses are cheap but irregular, so renting a car/scooter gives freedom
Stay overnight? Definitely worth it if you want to relax — Ksamil is quieter at night!

🗓️ When Is the Best Time to Visit Albania?
Albania is one of Europe’s last underrated gems — a place where rugged mountains, UNESCO-listed towns, and crystal-clear beaches coexist without the crowds (for now). But when exactly is the best time to visit?
After traveling across the country on a 7-day adventure — from the capital Tirana to beach paradise Ksamil — I can tell you this: timing matters. Let’s explore which season is best for this itinerary, depending on your travel style, weather preferences, and interests.
📍 First, here is the 7-day itinerary I followed:
Day 1: Tirana – Albania’s colorful and quirky capital
Day 2: Shkoder – Art, history, and cycling by the lake
Day 3: Kruje – Medieval town and Ottoman bazaar
Day 4: Berat – UNESCO city of a thousand windows
Day 5: Gjirokaster – Stone City with fairytale views
Day 6: Blue Eye + Sarande – Natural springs + seaside charm
Day 7: Ksamil – Caribbean-like beaches with a Balkan soul
🌸 SPRING (April – early June): The Ideal Balance
If I had to recommend one perfect season for this itinerary, it would be late spring, especially May to early June.
Why Spring is Great:
Nature is in full bloom: The mountains around Gjirokaster and Berat are lush and green.
Mild temperatures: Days are sunny but not too hot — perfect for sightseeing and hiking.
Beaches are peaceful: Ksamil and Sarande are still relatively quiet before the summer rush.
Prices are lower than peak summer, and accommodation is easier to find.
☀️ SUMMER (late June – August): Best for Beach Lovers
Summer is high season in Albania, and for good reason: the beaches in Ksamil and Sarande are at their most spectacular.
Why Summer is Great:
Perfect beach weather: Ksamil feels like the Maldives, with warm turquoise water.
Blue Eye Spring is refreshing: and a welcome break from the heat.
Festivals & local events in Tirana, Shkoder, and Gjirokaster bring extra energy.
But… Consider This:
Temperatures in cities like Berat and Gjirokaster can exceed 35°C (95°F).
Tourist numbers rise, especially on the southern coast.
Accommodation in Sarande and Ksamil gets booked fast — plan ahead!
Travel Tips for Summer:
Start sightseeing early in the day to avoid the midday heat.
Book accommodations in Ksamil at least 1–2 months ahead.
Bring a reusable water bottle — tap water is safe in most places, and staying hydrated is key.
🍁 AUTUMN (September – October): Peaceful & Pleasant
If you want the beaches to yourself and the weather still warm, autumn — especially September — is a hidden gem of a season in Albania.
Why Autumn Works:
Sea is still warm from summer, perfect for swimming in Ksamil.
Fewer tourists, especially in towns like Kruje and Gjirokaster.
Golden colors and harvest season in Berat — ideal for wine lovers and photographers.
Prices drop and accommodation is easier to find.
❄️ WINTER (November – March): Budget-Friendly but Limited
Winter in Albania can be charming in certain places but not ideal for this full itinerary.
Pros:
Very budget-friendly: flights and hotels are at their lowest.
Fewer tourists: explore places like Tirana and Berat almost alone.
Cultural experiences: Cafes, museums, and bazaars are open and cozy.
Cons:
The coast is quiet — many businesses in Ksamil and Sarande shut down.
Snow in the mountains may affect roads to places like Kruje or Gjirokaster.
