Sausalito travel guide and discussion

This time, I took advantage of the sunny weekend and visited the famous restaurant in Sausalito, California, Salito’s Crab House & Prime Rib, with my friends to enjoy a sumptuous seafood feast. The restaurant is located on the waterfront of the Bay Area. When the weather is fine, you can sit in the outdoor seating area and enjoy the beautiful sea view while enjoying the food. The atmosphere is quite comfortable. We ordered several signature dishes this time, one of which is the Soft-Shell Crab Sandwich, which is served with golden fried crispy potato cubes and a small dish of tartar sauce. The visual effect of this dish is appetizing: the hamburger bun is baked soft and elastic, with a whole soft-shell crab fried crispy inside, and then topped with a lot of crispy shredded lettuce and sauce, with rich taste. Every bite can taste the delicious crab meat and the crispy skin, which is perfectly integrated with the sour aroma of tartar sauce. The potato cubes next to it are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and it is very satisfying to eat with the sauce. Another main course is the handmade Shrimp Tagliatelle. This dish may seem simple, but it is made with solid effort. The fresh shrimp is plump and chewy, paired with homemade lasagna, which is chewy and smooth, absorbing the seafood sauce, which is rich but not greasy. Parmesan cheese and chopped herbs are sprinkled on the surface to add flavor and aroma, making people unable to stop eating. Of course, how can you miss their classic oyster platter when you come to Salito’s? We ordered half a dozen oysters, which were served on the table with a very delicate presentation, accompanied by ice cubes, lemon slices, and homemade vinegar onion sauce and horseradish sauce. The oysters are fresh and tender, with a strong seafood flavor but not fishy. Squeeze some lemon juice to make it more refreshing, especially suitable for enjoying in the hot summer. Each one is handled very cleanly, without sand, and it is very safe to eat. Several different hot sauces and pepper salts are also provided on the table, such as the classic Tabasco and special hot sauce, so that those of us who like strong flavors can also adjust the flavor by ourselves. For drinks, we only ordered ice water. After all, the freshness of seafood itself is enough and does not need too much interference. 💞Recommendation reason: Overall, Salito’s Crab House & Prime Rib is satisfactory in terms of food quality, plating beauty, and service attitude. The most impressive thing is the "authenticity of the sea flavor". Every dish makes people feel the natural sweetness from the ocean. This restaurant is very suitable for gatherings with friends and family, whether it is a celebration or a leisurely lunch time. Next time I come to Sausalito, I will definitely taste more of their seafood dishes! #加州必吃 🕰️Business hours: 12:00-20:00 📍Address: 1200 Bridgeway, Sausalito, CA 94965 USA 💰Per capita consumption: 30-50USD per person

📍Sausalito This place, which means 'little willow tree', is a resort town that you can find after crossing the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. It is a wealthy town among expensive San Francisco towns, but it is a town that feels really peaceful and leisurely..✨ It is a very cool place where you can take a picture of anywhere in the town and it looks like a postcard or a picture book. If you buy a snack and walk around, you will want to plan your retirement in Sausalito.. It is a peaceful island town. The ice cream shop "LAPPERT'S", which is famous among locals, was also delicious. Since there are not many tourists, you can leisurely enjoy the sunshine and take a walk around the town. If you go to San Francisco, you must visit🙌🏻 #USATravel #USASanFrancisco #SanFranciscoTravel #Sausalito #VacationVillage #IslandTravel #SunshineRestaurant #CoupleTravel #DateCourse #TravelDestinationRecommendation #SummerCapture #SafeTravel

My husband and I took the bus from San Francisco Bay, walked across the bridge, and then caught another bus to Sausalito. The views from the bridge were absolutely breathtaking. It was quite foggy and windy during our mid-September visit, but I actually think it added to the experience—just make sure to bring an extra layer. There are restrooms available on both ends of the bridge.

You have to experience walking the bridge. I started by taking the first ferry from the city to Sausalito, grabbed a quick coffee, and then walked to Fort Baker before heading over the bridge. For context, I’m 62, and while a lot of the walk is uphill, it wasn’t too difficult—some hills in the city are much tougher. It’s about the journey, not the pace, so take your time and enjoy the incredible views along the way. And the actual bridge crossing? It definitely lived up to expectations.

Always a delightful journey across the Bay from San Francisco to Marin County. We particularly enjoy visiting Sausalito, which is lovely for strolling around and offers some great lunch spots. During the ride, you’re treated to spectacular views of the Bay, Angel Island, and, naturally, Marin County.

📅 Itinerary Day1:First Golden Gate Moment I started around Crissy Field, walking along the waterfront as the bridge slowly got bigger in front of me. From there I explored the Presidio, stopped around Battery East for photos and finally walked onto the Golden Gate Bridge itself. I kept the evening slow around Marina/Fisherman’s Wharf - exactly what I needed after travelling. Day2: Cycling the Golden Gate 🚲 Probably my favourite day. I rented a bike in the city and followed Crissy Field → Presidio → Golden Gate Bridge → Vista Point → Sausalito. Cycling across the bridge with the Bay on one side and Pacific on the other is completely different from seeing it through a car window. Cyclists can cross toll-free, but the permitted sidewalk changes by day/time, so check the signs before entering. 💡 If your legs are finished by Sausalito, take the ferry back instead of cycling the return journey. Day3: Golden Gate by Car + Marin Headlands 🚗 This was my photography day. I drove across the bridge and explored the Marin Headlands, stopping at the overlooks for those huge bridge + San Francisco skyline shots. Then I came back toward the city and stopped around Fort Point for the completely different underneath-the-bridge perspective. ⚠️ Driving north from San Francisco is not where the bridge toll is charged; vehicle tolls are collected southbound when returning into San Francisco. Day 4: The San Francisco Day 🚋 I deliberately kept the final day away from the car: Fisherman’s Wharf → Pier 39 sea lions → Ghirardelli Square → Lombard Street → North Beach → Chinatown. Finish around the waterfront for sunset. It’s touristy, yes, but for a first San Francisco trip, I wouldn’t skip it. 🏨 Accommodation I’d base myself at San Francisco Marriott Fisherman’s Wharf. For this itinerary, location matters more than having the fanciest room. It sits between Fisherman’s Wharf and North Beach, with Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, Aquatic Park, Lombard Street and cable cars within easy reach. For a more practical Marriott option, compare it with Courtyard by Marriott San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf. I wouldn’t call either universally “affordable” because San Francisco hotel rates change heavily by date, compare your actual dates before booking. 🍴 Food Recommendations My food rule here: eat San Francisco food while you’re in San Francisco. Get clam chowder in sourdough at Boudin Bakery; try The Codmother Fish & Chips when you want something casual after a long walking day; and save one proper waterfront seafood dinner for Scoma’s Restaurant. Fisherman’s Wharf is particularly associated with Dungeness crab, sourdough and seafood. And don’t make every meal expensive — coffee + bakery breakfast, one good seafood meal and casual food during the day worked much better for me. 📌 Tips 🌁 Fog isn’t bad weather here. If it rolls through the Golden Gate, wait — some of my favourite views are when the towers disappear into it. 🅿️ Don’t depend on bridge parking. Parking around the bridge is extremely limited, and the official bridge guidance recommends transit, rideshare, cycling or walking instead. 💰 Some of the best experiences cost $0: walking the Golden Gate Bridge, Crissy Field, Presidio viewpoints, Fort Point exterior viewpoints, Pier 39 sea lions, Lombard Street, Chinatown and simply watching sunset over the Bay. 🚲 Bike > car for the bridge experience. Cycling the bridge is toll-free and cyclists have 24-hour access, although the correct sidewalk varies. 🚗 Car > bike for Marin Headlands. That’s when I wanted the freedom to stop at multiple viewpoints without turning the day into an endurance ride. ❤️ My biggest tip: don’t make Golden Gate Bridge a 20-minute photo stop. Walk it one day, cycle it another, drive into the Headlands another. I saw a completely different side of San Francisco each time. 📍 San Francisco, California 🇺🇸 SAVE this for your California trip 🌉 — and if I could repeat only one day, I’m taking the bike again. 🚲

Seeing the Golden Gate Bridge is iconic. Cycling across it is a completely different experience. 🌉 🚲 Start at Crissy Field - ride beside the bay with the bridge getting bigger in front of you. 📸 Climb toward Crissy Field Overlook → Battery East Vista for some of the best stops for bridge, Alcatraz and Bay views. 🌉 Stop at the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center, then cycle the 1.7-mile Golden Gate Bridge crossing. 🌊 Once across, stop at the north-side Vista Point for the San Francisco skyline behind the bridge. 🔥 TOP ROUTE: Crissy Field → Crissy Field Overlook → Battery East → Golden Gate Bridge → Vista Point → continue to Sausalito if you want the bigger adventure. ⛴️ THE TRICK: instead of cycling all the way back, continue downhill to Sausalito and take the ferry back to San Francisco. Bikes are allowed aboard Golden Gate Ferry, subject to available capacity. 💡 KNOW BEFORE YOU RIDE: bridge cycling is toll-free and available 24 hours, but cyclists switch between the east and west sidewalks depending on the day and time. Maximum cycling speed is 15 mph and 5 mph around the towers. Check the bridge indicators before entering. 📍 San Francisco → Golden Gate Bridge → Sausalito, California 🇺🇸 #GoldenGateBridge #SanFrancisco #GoldenGate #SanFranciscoTravel #CaliforniaTravel #CyclingCalifornia #Sausalito #CaliforniaRoadTrip

Renting was straightforward, and the electric-assisted bike performed wonderfully. The ride to the Presidio, across the Golden Gate Bridge, into the Marin Headlands, and down to the Sausalito ferry was enjoyable and not too challenging. The bike’s electric assist made tackling hills easy without losing control. The rental also included all necessary safety gear and accessories, making for a hassle-free experience.

Bay Area Discovery Museum 📍Location: Sausalito, California, north of the Golden Gate Bridge, in the Fort Baker area This is a guide map for a children's museum, a venue specifically designed for hands-on, outdoor, and art-based educational play for children. Main exhibition areas (on the map) · Lookout Cove: Outdoor seaside bay simulation area · Mud Kitchen (Outdoor area for playing with mud · Giant Instrument Walk (Large musical instrument installation · Imagination Playground (Giant block playground · Gumnut Grove (Treehouse adventure play area · Tot Spot (Area specifically for toddlers under 107 cm tall · Bean Sprouts Café (Family-friendly restaurant inside the museum, stops serving full meals after 3:30 PM Museum amenities: Restrooms, water refill stations, nursing rooms, first aid stations, and hand sanitizer dispensers located throughout.

We had an amazing day riding e-bikes from Golden Gate Rides. Along with the bikes, they provided helmets, Velcro bands for our wide-legged pants (gotta stay stylish!), bike locks, water, and bananas, and even let us borrow a backpack. The bikes were easy to figure out, and we thoroughly enjoyed our ride down the Embarcadero, over the Golden Gate Bridge (the assist made uphill biking a breeze), and into Sausalito. Returning on the ferry with the bikes was also hassle-free. We’d absolutely rent from them again. Bigyn (hope I got his name right) was friendly and made sure our seats were adjusted for maximum comfort.

A Gentle Breeze on the Golden Gate: A Private Walk Across the Bridge in the Bright Spring of 2026 As the first rays of sunlight fell upon the steel cables of the Golden Gate Bridge on March 26, 2026, I knew this springtime walk would become an unforgettable memory. The San Francisco sky that day was a clear, bright blue, the sea breeze carrying the moist scent of the Pacific Ocean, mingled with the delicate fragrance of wild roses by the roadside, bathing the entire bridge in gentle spring light. 🚶‍♀️Exclusive Hiking Route: From Sunrise to Sunset I chose the South Side Trail of the Golden Gate Bridge (San Francisco → Sausalito), approximately 6 kilometers long, the best route to capture the bridge and bay side in a single frame: 1. Starting Point: Golden Gate Bridge Visitor Center (Golden Gate Bridge Vista Point, Sausalito, CA 94965) I set off promptly at 8:00 AM, when there weren't many tourists yet, allowing me to enjoy the moment when the bridge was bathed in the warm gold of the morning light. Standing on the observation deck at the starting point, you can clearly see seabirds chasing the ferry beneath the bridge, and Alcatraz Island in the distance looks like a quiet reef lying on the sea. 2. Middle Section: The Shadow Zone Under the Bridge Cables As you walk to the middle section of the bridge, sunlight filters through the gaps in the cables, casting neat diamond-shaped patches of light on the walkway. I deliberately stopped to touch the rust-red cables; my fingertips could feel the rough texture left by years of sea wind erosion, as if I were touching the pulse of this century-old bridge. 3. End Point: The Town of Sausalito Around 11 a.m., I arrived at Sausalito on the other side of the bay. It's a colorful town nestled on a hillside, with small shops selling handmade jewelry and coffee lining the streets along the bay. I sat on a bench by the roadside for half an hour, watching the Golden Gate Bridge shimmer gently in the water; even time seemed to slow down. Transportation Guide · From downtown San Francisco to the starting point: Take bus number 28 directly to the Golden Gate Bridge Visitor Center, the journey takes about 40 minutes; a taxi will cost approximately $30-40 (for reference only, please refer to actual prices). · From Sausalito back to San Francisco: You can take the Golden Gate Ferry, a one-way trip costs $13. Sitting on the deck offers a completely different perspective of the Golden Gate Bridge looking back from the sea. 🍤Flavors of the Bay 1. Hiking Refreshment: Bridgeway Café is located at the entrance to the town of Sausalito. I ordered a seafood sandwich with freshly fried shrimp and cod chunks mixed with pickles. Every bite was bursting with the fresh taste of the sea. Paired with an iced Americano, it was a perfect way to refresh myself. The average cost was approximately $25 per person (for reference only, please refer to actual prices). 2. Dinner Recommendation: Swan Oyster Depot. After taking the ferry back to San Francisco from Sausalito, head straight to this century-old oyster restaurant. The oysters here are all caught fresh from the Pacific Ocean daily. Squeeze some fresh lemon juice on them and eat them directly; their sweetness is like breathing in the sea breeze. The average price is approximately $50-70 USD per person (for reference only, please refer to actual prices). 🏨 Fall asleep under the starlight of the Golden Gate Bridge 1. High-Value Option: The Best Value Hotel in America on the Golden Gate Bridge · Features: Only a 6-minute taxi ride from the Golden Gate Bridge. Rooms have microwaves and mini-fridges, perfect for bringing your own snacks. · Price: Approximately 500-700 RMB per night (for reference only, please refer to actual prices). 2. Scenic Views Preferred: Hilton Bay View Room · Features: Choose a high-floor bay view room; you can see the lights of the Golden Gate Bridge twinkling at night from your bed. The breakfast buffet also features freshly squeezed juice and DIY tortillas, adding to the fun. · Price: From approximately 1200 RMB per night (for reference only, please refer to actual prices). ⚠️Spring Hiking Tips 1. Weather and Clothing: Although it was a sunny day, the sea breeze in San Francisco was particularly strong, making the perceived temperature about 5°C lower than it actually is. We recommend wearing a windproof jacket and long pants, a hat, and sunglasses. Choose sunscreen with SPF 20+ (UV intensity was high that day). 2. Gear List: Lightweight hiking shoes, a 1L water bottle (there are drinking fountains along the trail), a portable power bank, and a small backpack for your jacket and snacks. 3. Reminder: There are no trash cans on the trail, so remember to bring your own trash bags and take your trash out of the area. The number of visitors increases after 3 PM, so if you want to take photos of the deserted bridge, be sure to start early. Have you ever walked across a bridge in the spring? Ferry Building → Sausalito, this ferry ride is worth taking slowly✨ Sometimes, falling in love with a city isn’t about how many attractions you’ve visited, but about that one moment when you suddenly feel a connection with it. This time, I boarded the ferry at the Ferry Building, heading towards Sausalito 🚢 The sea breeze brushed against my cheeks as the ferry slowly departed the dock. The San Francisco skyline gradually faded into the distance. In the far distance stood the Golden Gate Bridge 🌉. The sunlight danced on the water, and occasionally, seagulls skimmed past the ferry. In that moment, I suddenly felt that San Francisco’s summer is truly unique— a little lazy, a little free, and filled with the romance of a seaside city. Upon arriving in Sausalito, there’s no need to rush. Take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront, admire the colorful houses, feel the breeze, and find a café to sit and daydream ☕ This route doesn’t come with the pressure of "must-see" attractions. It feels more like a little escape time just for yourself. If you visit San Francisco, make sure to set aside half a day for this ferry ride. Because some views aren’t truly yours just by capturing them in photos. They’re yours in the moment the sea breeze touches your face, and you’re really there. 🤍 Route Tips: Ferry Building Pier → Sausalito Ferry 🚢 Best to go on a sunny afternoon 🌅 Return at sunset for a stunning cityscape view

Golden Gate Bridge is a historic structure and iconic symbol of the United States. It can be viewed from various locations around the city, Alcatraz Island, and the bay. We opted to rent electric bikes and toured both the city and the bridge, cycling on the left side as we traveled from downtown San Francisco to Sausalito. The right side is exclusively designated for pedestrians. Nearby, the Golden Gate Bridge Vista Point offers an information center with souvenirs, historical photos, and restrooms. Walking across the 2.7 km bridge takes considerable time, but with the aid of our electric bikes, we crossed to the other side and returned with ease.

One of my best birthdays, thanks to my hubby and Carlos Tenoreo, who works at the front desk and effortlessly seems to oversee the entire hotel. Service was outstanding. Carlos welcomed us warmly, explaining how to navigate the hotel, use the YMCA next door, and access the bikes. His enthusiasm is truly remarkable. The hotel is conveniently located across from Pier 14, with walkable access to restaurants, coffee shops, boat rides to Angel Island and Sausalito, buses, and even Waymo. The beds and pillows were incredibly comfortable, and the personalities of the other staff were equally delightful. Valet parking was a bit expensive at $72, but the morning coffee, fruit, and muffins, along with the evening wine, made up for it. Valet service was impressively quick! The hotel is such a fun and memorable experience. A heartfelt thanks to Carlos for being such a wonderful person.

On the bike ride back from Mill Valley, we made a pit stop at the charming Mediterranean-style coastal town of Sausalito. You won't find the hustle and bustle of the big city here—just endless yachts docked in the harbor, a refreshing ocean breeze, and a delightfully slow-paced seaside lifestyle. 🌴 Slow living in a coastal town (Pics 2-3): Parked the bikes by the pier and took in the view of palm trees and sailboat masts contrasting against the blue sky and white clouds. Just sitting on the wooden boardwalk, enjoying the breeze and resting my legs, made the fatigue from the ride instantly melt away. 🦪 A French seafood feast at Le Garage: Stopped by Le Garage, an industrial-style French bistro right on the waterfront. (Pic 4) Mussels Blanche (White wine mussels): Fresh, plump, and soaked in a rich, flavorful broth—absolutely delicious! (Pic 5) French baguette: Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Dipping it into the savory white wine mussel broth is a match made in heaven! (Pic 6) ⛵️ Endless sailboats in the harbor (Pics 1, 7-9): Took a post-meal stroll along the marina, where the boardwalk is lined with countless yachts and sailboats. With masts towering everywhere, every casual snap looks like a romantic California coast postcard. 🍔 A little regret at a landmark burger joint (Pic 10): Walked past the legendary local spot, Hamburgers (737 Bridgeway), and could smell the mouthwatering aroma of charbroiled burgers from a block away! Sadly, we were already stuffed from Le Garage, so it'll have to wait until next time~ 🌊 A traveler's two cents: Sausalito truly is a hidden gem in San Francisco's backyard. Whether it’s the final destination or just a rest stop on your bike ride, treating yourself to a steaming plate of mussels, sipping a cold drink, and spacing out by the harbor is the ultimate reward for the journey. 📍 Location: Sausalito, California 🍽 Food recs: Le Garage (Mussels Blanche & French Bread)

I joined an 11-day offshore passage on Challenger 3, sailing from Portsmouth across the North Sea to Bergen, Norway, and it became one of the most meaningful adventures of my life. Challenger 3 is not just any boat — this 72-foot steel-hulled vessel once competed in the Global Challenge, navigating westward against the prevailing winds and currents in what’s often called “the world’s toughest race.” You can sense that rich history the moment you step onboard. Night watches, climbing the rig for halyard checks, and reading the sea gave me a level of confidence and humility that no day-sail could ever provide. The journey itself was extraordinary. After crossing open water, we navigated along the Norwegian coast, gliding through Lysefjord under dramatic cliffs like Pulpit Rock, passing roaring waterfalls, and visiting quaint little towns with sauna houses by the water — it reminded me so much of home in Sausalito, California. Arriving into Bergen's Vågen harbour, with the colourful Bryggen waterfront in view, was a moment I’ll never forget. This experience wouldn’t have been the same without the amazing crew. A heartfelt thanks to skipper Tony, and to Hugo, Bart, and Raj — your patience, encouragement, and steady support made every watch and challenge feel like sailing with family. I’m deeply grateful for that. What made this trip truly special is its connection to the Tall Ships Youth Trust, a charity that uses these vessels to inspire young people in the UK, helping them grow, take on challenges, and pursue their dreams at sea. Knowing my voyage helped fund such an incredible mission made every cold night watch worthwhile. If you’re considering an offshore sail training adventure — even if, like me, you’re coming from buoy racing — go for it. It will change you. This was an unforgettable journey that I’ll cherish for a lifetime.
