2026 Sinan Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in August)

Climbing Fanjing Mountain with kids, want to see amazing sights but worried the kids will be exhausted? This guide is your “lifesaver”! Follow it for an easy and fun trip! Our family took the cable car up the mountain, saving a lot of energy. After getting off the cable car, the real climb begins. If the kids really can’t walk anymore (or if you want to take it easy 😜), there are price signs nearby where you can pay someone to carry you up, costing about 1,000 yuan. Climbing upward, you’ll first reach Mushroom Rock. It’s super magical here—the rock looks like a big mushroom, and the kids exclaimed it looked like a “chocolate mushroom!” 🍄 Here’s an important tip: there’s a sign nearby to scan a QR code to reserve a spot for the Red Cloud Golden Summit! Be sure to scan and reserve first! We reserved first, then went to the Old Golden Summit, and came back later to climb the Red Cloud Golden Summit—there was plenty of time. If your reservation number is far back, it’s recommended to head straight to the Red Cloud Golden Summit first. Continuing the climb, you’ll pass the Nine Emperor Cave, which is also a historical trail from the Red Army’s Long March—great for telling kids some stories. Then you can reach the top of the Old Golden Summit! The scenery is breathtaking! Afterward, follow the signs back to Mushroom Rock to climb the other side. Next, you’ll pass Cheng’en Temple and then arrive at Pudu Square. There’s a loudspeaker calling reservation numbers, and a small shop in the square, but prices are a bit high—one grilled sausage costs 10 yuan. Luckily, we brought snacks and fruit, so the kids could recharge anytime. 🎒 When our number was called, we headed to the gate to prepare for climbing the Red Cloud Golden Summit. This part of the trail is quite steep, especially the narrow steps shown in photos P9 and P10. Be sure to hold the kids’ hands tightly, have them grip the iron chains, don’t let them hold anything in their hands, and focus on climbing. 💪 Along the way, we passed Guanyin Cave and heard an interesting story: Fanjing Mountain was once underwater and was pushed up by tectonic plate collisions, which is why the mountain is so steep and knife-like. Whether true or not, it was a great geography lesson for the kids! 🌊 The moment we reached the Red Cloud Golden Summit, it was all worth it! On a clear day, you can see a stunning sea of clouds, and the kids excitedly searched for “cotton candy clouds.” ☁️ The way down was much easier. We passed the Heavenly King Hall and the Guanyin statue, then chose the cableway direction. There was a rest area with free ginger tea—perfect for warming up. Finally, we took the 8-person cable car down (about 20 minutes), then transferred to a shuttle van (9 seats) to the main entrance. We left around 5:30 PM and didn’t see any big buses, but the parking lot had 9-seat vans going directly to Tongren High-Speed Rail Station, about a 1 hour 20 minute ride.
