Free parking at the Chief overlook lot, then 5 min walk to the mossy rock slab where the Chief’s face looms—Douglas fir moss dripping, the Howe Sound below. I drove it in October, 8 am, fog lifting. Mistake: I wore street shoes—the slab is moss on granite, slick; trail shoes next time. No permit, no fee. Card in Squamish town (Coffee at Esspresso, CAD 4.50), cash useless at the pullout. A climber at the viewpoint shared his beta on the Chief’s 3rd peak and said “the moss is the only thing softer than the granite.” Best light: 7–9 am before the coastal cloud burns off. Shannon Falls lot is pay-parking ($5–6/vehicle, card), Chief lot 200 m north is free but fills by 08:30 summer; Vancouver→Squamish 45 min on the Sea to Sky. I based in Squamish (inn $150), parked the Chief lot 07:40 free, hiked to First Peak (3 hrs RT) — turned back at the chains in drizzle, not worth the slip risk. I sat on the deck at 08:40, the moss on the PassivHaus timber base wet, Lost Lake flat below with Whistler Mtn behind, and ate the cookie before the 09:30 trail-run crowd arrived. Summer: the lake has a swimming dock; winter: the same loop is groomed Nordic with the café as the warming hut. Mistake: I biked the Valley Trail from the upper village in May — still snow patches on the north side; walk it. Another: Whistler village parking is 20 CAD/day; the public bus from Squamish (2 CAD) beats driving. The basic food options and breakfast provided were really handy. The room, featuring two double beds and a well-appointed bathroom, was absolutely fine. We also reserved complimentary bikes through the concierge for a two-hour ride, and exploring Stanley Park was a definite highlight of our stay. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to use the pool, but it’s a great additional feature of the hotel. Overall, this is an excellent choice for a quick visit to Vancouver. Its close proximity to shuttle services for attractions like Capilano Suspension Bridge, the Sea to Sky Gondola, and the Fly Canada experience makes it a hard spot to beat.

Continuing my daily log 📍Day 6 UBC campus + Beaty Museum + Wreck Beach Let the kids experience the university atmosphere. We visited the library—open until midnight, so I took the chance to give my son a little “study hard” pep talk😂 We also went to Wreck Beach, but my son was a bit shy and didn’t want to take off his clothes. 📍Day 7 Canada Day|Booked a photographer, totally worth it! It happened to be Canada Day and a World Cup match day, so I specially booked a photographer to capture the moments. We checked out Gastown downtown, Canada Place, and many spots with World Cup vibes. 📍Day 8 Sea to Sky|Rain again, cautious kid’s gondola experience It rained again that day, but my son’s most anticipated Britannia Mining Museum visit wasn’t affected at all! He was excited the whole time with the underground mine cart and the BOOM! Show. At Sea to Sky Gondola, the ride was long and high—but my son is a cautious kid. The mountain was quiet with few people, many hiking trails were empty, so we just enjoyed the view and headed back. On the way home, we stopped by a beautiful seaside community. 📍Day 9 Whale watching|Saw humpback whales and orcas!!! We booked with the famous Prince of Whales and saw both humpback whales and orcas, plus sea lions and seals lounging on rocks soaking up the sun. No seasickness at all (but definitely bring a windbreaker and snacks). In the afternoon, we visited Granville Island’s Public Market and Kids Market, ate, shopped for toys, and then headed back. 📍Day 10 Science World|Entered at 11 AM, left at 5 PM So much fun! The whole museum isn’t a highbrow science exhibit—it’s all interactive—touching, pressing, pulling, assembling, stepping—totally gets what kids want. We went in at 11 AM and didn’t leave until almost closing at 5 PM. The shows were great too. Afterward, we took the Aquabus ferry. When the staff learned my son was 5, they sweetly asked if he could be 4 instead (so he could ride free). Taking care of a kid alone isn’t that scary. Kids are actually very cooperative and don’t complain much, as long as they get to play, eat well, and aren’t picky.

18 km, 7 hours, finally checked in at Watersprite Lake. The moment I saw the lake water, I instantly felt it was all worth it. The water is as clear as a gem, surrounded by mountains, as beautiful as stepping into a postcard. There are a total of 3 peaks, but I only visited Peak 1 today. The round trip took 4.5 hours, including half an hour spent lying on the summit. It was quite tiring as the trail is mostly made up of steps, not ideal for people who don't exercise at all. 90% of the trail is shaded by trees, so you won't be exposed to the sun. The final section is challenging to climb and requires using both hands and feet. The hardest part is descending, as the path is very steep. The trail conditions are not easy to navigate, so shoes with strong grip are a must. The scenery is definitely worth the effort! 🏞️

The entire trail takes less than 30 minutes to complete, very easy and relaxing. The path is surrounded by old-growth forest with tree roots, moss, vines, and ferns intertwined. On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the United States' Independence Day, we chose a mountain and sea journey, coming to Vancouver to experience the legendary Sea to Sky Gondola. Traveling along the Sea to Sky Highway, on one side lies the tranquil and vast bay, and on the other, towering mountains reaching the clouds. That day coincided with the Canada vs. Morocco World Cup match, and the streets were bustling with crowds, adding a lively and festive atmosphere to the city. Heading north, we arrived around 11 AM. Boarding the gondola, we slowly ascended to the mountaintop. In just 10 minutes, it felt like completing a journey from the ocean to the sky. As we rose higher, the view gradually unfolded: 🌊 Howe Sound 🌲 Lush green forests 🏔️ Coast Mountains 🪨 The massive Stawamus Chief rock face At this moment, we finally understood why it’s called “Sea to Sky.” At the summit, we walked four trails: ✨ Spirit Loop ✨ Panorama Loop ✨ Alpine Alley ✨ Wonderland Lake Loop Among them, the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge is a must-visit stop. Standing in the middle of the bridge, beneath your feet is the valley, and in the distance, snow-capped peaks and the bay. Between heaven and earth, there is only vastness and tranquility. You can enjoy lunch at the mountaintop restaurant, where the sunlight illuminates the entire valley, and every view is just perfect. ⏰ At 4:50 PM, we took the shuttle back to Vancouver.
