But standing on Gujing Tower looking down—the East Lake is right below, the whole ancient city spreads out, and the Ling River winds around it. The city wall snakes along the ridge, stretching 4,730 meters. The northern Great Wall was modeled after this one. The S-shaped wall near Enemy Tower No. 3 is the best spot for photos. From there, you can see the Ling River and the old rooftops of the ancient city. If you don’t want to climb the whole way, start from Xingshan Gate, where the path is much gentler. The free visiting hours for the Taizhou Prefecture City Wall are before 7 AM and after 6 PM. Be sure to remember this time to save quite a bit on entrance fees. However, note that the wall has gates, and after 6 PM only the section from Chaotian Gate to Xingshan Gate is open; other entrances will be closed, so don’t make a wasted trip. During the day, you can choose different routes based on your stamina. If you’re feeling energetic, we recommend climbing the wall from Xingshan Gate and walking all the way to Lansheng Gate to descend. This route basically lets you experience the full scope of the wall, and after descending you can conveniently visit Donghu Park. The Baiyun Tower at Lansheng Gate offers excellent daytime views; standing on it you can overlook the entire Donghu and Linhai Ancient City. Children can clearly see the layout of the ancient city and feel the grandeur of the ancient fortress. If you don’t want to walk too much or are with elderly or children, choose the prime section from Chaotian Gate to the City God Temple. This route has plenty of shade and is not too sunny, making it easier to walk. Here you’ll find the most beautiful S-shaped photo spot and cute little deer to interact with. Kids especially love playing with the deer, and photos come out great. You can walk slowly and take your time, running your fingers over the mottled city bricks, feeling the layers of history from the rammed earth of the Eastern Jin, the bricks of the Tang and Song dynasties, to the smoke signals of the Ming and Qing dynasties—thousands of years of history written in layers. The ancient Great Wall at night has a unique charm. When the lights come on, the entire wall becomes dazzling. We recommend climbing the wall from Chaotian Gate and walking to Xingshan Gate to descend. This section is relatively flat and very friendly for the elderly and children. There are fewer people on the wall at night; enjoy the evening breeze and the ancient city wall illuminated by lights, creating a special atmosphere. After descending, you’ll be right at Ziyang Street, where you can take your children to explore the night market, try various local snacks, and experience the ancient city’s nightlife. Climb the Taizhou Prefecture City Wall and embark on a millennium appointment with the "Taiping Years." Walk on the ancient wall with your children, tell them stories of ancient wars and the history of the wall’s construction, so they can learn history and broaden their knowledge while having fun. You can take the kids to the Duijie Viewing Platform to watch the sunrise, which is very meaningful. Shenxianju Scenic Area is a national 5A-level attraction and the largest volcanic rhyolite landform group in the world, often called the “Zhangjiajie of Eastern Zhejiang.” The Nantian Ding Glass Viewing Platform hangs 869 meters in the air, offering an exhilarating experience. No crowds like Guoqing Temple, no commercial hustle and bustle, only lush greenery, Song Dynasty-style architecture, and a temple so quiet you can hear the wind. After visiting, I can only say, it's perfect for a weekend escape from the city with kids. Baohua Temple is located on Baohua Mountain in Tiantai County, Taizhou. It's about a 2-hour drive from Hangzhou. Admission is free, and the recommended visiting time is 1 to 2 hours. Upon entering the temple gate, it truly felt like stepping into a Song Dynasty landscape painting. Green tiles, wooden eaves, stone steps, and bamboo shadows—the entire temple exudes a sophisticated Chinese aesthetic. Every casual photo captures the atmosphere perfectly. Moss-covered ground, ancient trees that block out the sky, mountain mist and wind, and an incredibly tranquil environment. Staying here for a while makes one feel very relaxed, and children can also calm down. What surprised the children most was the many "little stone monks" hidden throughout the temple. Some meditating, some watching fish, some simply daydreaming. They are scattered in various corners and are incredibly cute. When you spot one, you can't help but stop and look for more, like playing a "temple treasure hunt game." Kids will have a blast. Compared to popular temples, this place is truly, truly, truly peaceful. Even during the May Day holiday, there were hardly any people, making the experience absolutely perfect. It's especially suitable for a relaxing weekend outing with kids, and also for those who appreciate Chinese aesthetics, temple enthusiasts, or anyone looking for a quiet place to unwind. The latter part of the mountain road is a bit winding, so driving is more convenient.
