#arrivalguide I stayed in Zakopane and took a shared minibus from the main bus station to Palenica Białczańska (about 30–40 min, ~10 PLN one way in 2025); driving yourself is possible but the lot fills before 8 a.m. in summer and you still cannot drive past the gate. The first 9 km to Morskie Oko is paved asphalt (Droga Oswalda Balzera), shaded, with toilets and a snack kiosk at Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza waterfall. It took me 2 h 10 min at a steady pace, not counting photo stops. Entrance to Tatra National Park is charged at the gate (~5 PLN). Morskie Oko at 1,395 m is gorgeous but crowded; the real reward is the extra 40–50 min climb to Czarny Staw pod Rysami at 1,583 m. That section switches from pavement to stone switchbacks, steep but short, ~190 m extra gain. I reached the tarn at 7:20 a.m. and had the mirror-still water under Rysy and Mięguszowiecki Peaks almost to myself—by 10 a.m. the same spot was packed. Practical notes: dogs are banned on this trail, cash is useful at the Morskie Oko hut (cards are accepted but the terminal lags), and horse carriages run the asphalt for ~90 PLN up / 50 PLN down—skip them, the animal welfare debate is real and you miss the warm-up. Wear trail shoes even if the weather is dry; the Czarny Staw slab gets slick from overnight dew. Me and my friend went to Tantra Mountain in Zakopane to go for a hike there as part of 7-days travel in three different countries. We were drenched in sweat hiking but the view is worthy of it! I want to repeat this travel!

I had an amazing time hiking in the Tatra Mountains in Poland. The trails are incredibly diverse, ranging from easy, scenic walks to more challenging routes that can take a few days to complete. I loved how quickly the landscape changes—one moment you're walking through greenery of a forest, the next you're surrounded by rugged peaks. I did a couple of shorter hikes that took roughly 5 to 6 hours each, but the longer ones would definitely appeal if you want more adventure. The views are honestly jaw-dropping at every turn. One thing to note is that the weather can change quickly, so it's important to be prepared with layers and check forecasts. The atmosphere is peaceful and the air so fresh—it’s a great place to really disconnect. Definitely worth visiting for anyone who enjoys nature!
