A Wrong Turn, An Unexpected Discovery: Zoodoo Wildlife Park Tasmania
Who would have a thought, a wrong turn can lead you somewhere you never expected—and in our case, it led us to Zoodoo Wildlife Park.
We were actually on our way to Tasmanian Devil Unzoo when we took the wrong junction. Shortly after, we spotted a sign pointing towards Zoodoo Wildlife Park, a place that hadn’t even come up in our earlier research. We did a quick check, read through a few reviews and decided, why not? We changed our plans and headed to Zoodoo instead.
The park had already been renamed Hobart Zoo and Aquarium in May 2025, but everything around the park was still branded as Zoodoo when we visited, so that was the name we knew it by.
And as it turned out, our unplanned detour was a pretty good decision.
The weather was perfect for a day outdoors—sunny with a cool breeze—and the park was much bigger and more spacious than we expected. There was plenty of room to wander around and explore at a relaxed pace, with lots of animals and activities along the way.
One of the biggest highlights was the feeding experiences. We got to feed kangaroos, wallabies, cows, ponies, alpacas and rabbits, making the visit much more interactive than simply walking around looking at animals. Getting up close to so many different animals was definitely one of the most memorable parts of the day.
There was plenty more to see too, including meerkats, Tasmanian devils, lions, koalas, wombats, kangaroos, wallabies and several smaller monkey species such as marmosets and squirrel monkeys, along with colourful birds and an aquarium section.
For families, there was also an indoor play area and a snack and refreshment counter, which came in handy when we needed a little break before heading out to explore again.
What we thought would be a quick stop turned into a much longer visit. With the size of the park, the variety of animals and all the feeding opportunities, we ended up spending far more time there than we had intended.
It wasn’t where we had planned to go, but it turned out to be a surprisingly fun addition to our Tasmania adventure.
