Ternate travel guide and discussion

One of my favorite moments in Ternate was watching the sunset at Tolire Beach. It’s located on the western side of the island, about 45 minutes from the city center, and the drive itself is already beautiful with views of the sea and the silhouette of Mount Gamalama along the way. I arrived a bit before sunset, and the colors slowly changed in a way I didn’t expect. It started with a soft orange glow, then became deeper and more vibrant as the sun went down. Just before it got dark, the sky shifted into a mix of orange and purple tones, which made the whole view feel even more special. The atmosphere here is very relaxed. Along the beach, there are a few small cafés and also more traditional warung with plenty of seating, so it’s easy to just sit down, have a drink, and enjoy the view without rushing. 💡 From my experience: · Try to arrive at least 30–45 minutes before sunset to see the full color transition · The west coast gives a clear, open view of the horizon · Renting a motorbike makes it easier to reach and explore nearby spots · It’s a good place to slow down and just enjoy the evening It’s a simple experience, but the combination of the colors, the quiet surroundings, and the open view of the ocean made it one of the most memorable sunsets I’ve seen.

I didn’t expect much when I went to Ternate, but it turned out to be one of the most memorable places I’ve been to. What makes Ternate special is how compact everything is. It’s a small island, but right in the center stands Mount Gamalama, which gives the whole island a very unique landscape. Wherever you go, you’re always surrounded by a mix of mountain and sea views. The water here is incredibly clear, and many spots around the island still feel untouched. I spent most of my time just moving around the island and stopping whenever I saw a nice view, there are plenty of those. But the highlight for me was the sunset. As the sun goes down, the sky slowly changes color over the ocean, with nearby islands in the distance. It felt very calm and not crowded at all, which made the experience even better. 💡 From my experience: · Renting a motorbike is the easiest way to explore the island · The full loop around Ternate only takes around 1–2 hours · Sunset spots are everywhere, but the west side of the island gives the best view · Try to go in the late afternoon so you can enjoy both daylight views and sunset Ternate might not be as well-known as other destinations in Indonesia, but that’s exactly what makes it special. It still feels quiet, natural, and less developed compared to more popular places. If you’re looking for somewhere different for your next trip, this is definitely worth considering. #springtravel #Indonesia #Ternate #Maluku #nature #island #IslandTravel #HiddenGem #BeachView #Sunset #TravelSG #TripMoments

During my exploration in Ternate, I accidentally saw an interesting traditional restaurant. My curiosity leads me to stop by this restaurant and have my lunch here. The view was so amazing and we would eat inside the floating boat whoch makes it interesting and memorable. The lake water is so calm and the air is so fresh. The most interesting part is, you do your own fishing, and if you get one, you can eat the fish you got. OMG i highly recommend you guys if you happened to visit Ternate. It was so fun 🤩 📍Ternate, North Maluku, Indonesia #summerdestinations #indonesia

#summerdestinations Ternate is a city also an island which pictured on Indonesian Bank Notes of Rp 1.000,-. This part which makes this island iconic and has strong history of Indonesia. That was so unfortunate that when i went to this iconic spot, there are a lot of trash everywhere and needed attention to be cleaned. As if it is destroying my best view and photo taken 😢 Location 📍Ternate, North Maluku, Indonesia. #indonesia #island

#summerdestinations Ternate is used to be the capital city of North Maluku province in Indonesia. This also well known as one of the besf tourist location to explore as they have so much clear and pristine water to do water sport. As in the picture, you can see that local guy is swimming clearly seeing inside the water. You can do anything fun here in Ternate and vibing with locals 📍Ternate Strait, North Maluku, Indonesia #indonesia #Ternate #Northmaluku

#summerdestinations Summer is identically with water sport. As in the picture i truly enjoying the moment with swimming in the clear water instead of Ternate. Most of the lake here are still pristine which pamper your eyes during your swimming time. 📍Ternate, North Maluku, Indonesia. #indonesia

#easytravelpost Weda Bay (central Halmahera east coast) is nickel-country now, but the mangrove-ridge forest behind Weda village runs a brackish transition — Acroporium on the Rhizophora prop-root 1 cm, Campylopus on the limestone behind the mangrove 1 cm, Sphagnum in the only freshwater seep 2 cm, 29°C in Jun, the Halmahera monarch, the Weda Bay steel-blue. No park booth — it's customary land, ask Weda village chief for permission (small gift 50k IDR), charter a longtail Weda→ridge-mouth 200k IDR/share, Ternate→Weda passenger boat 120k IDR or flight to Weda airstrip + ojek. I based in Weda (losmen 150k IDR), chartered a longtail 07:00, landed the mangrove-mouth, walked the ridge behind. The moss on the 1990s copra-drier post was black-green with crab-scatter, ate a 25k IDR pisang goreng, watched a white cockatoo work the mangrove fringe at 08:30. Mistake: I wore trainers in Aug — mangrove mud sucked one off at the knee, leeches in the brackish transition; rubber boots, the mossy ridge is 200 m behind the mangrove not in it. Another: nickel trucks use the Weda road dawn–dusk, don't hitch unknown pickups. Would you charter 200k IDR + 50k chief-gift for the Weda mangrove→ridge mossy forest walk, or skip Weda and do the Sofifi–Jailolo north-Halmahera clove road instead?

#easytravelpost Gamalama (1,715 m) is the conic volcano on Ternate island, Maluku — the mossy cloud forest belts the 1,000–1,400 m saddle on the Ake Taja route, with clove plantations below and Myrtaceae cloud forest above. No park fee, guide 300–500 k IDR/day (Ternate town co-op), Sultan Babullah airport→trailhead 30 min ojek (50 k IDR). Best Jun–Sep; Jan–Mar eruption-alert closures. I flew Jakarta→Ternate, ojek to the Dufa-Dufa trailhead 06:30, guide 07:00 (400 k IDR), climbed. The moss is the Ternate cloud forest: Thuidium on the clove-shade trunks 1 cm, Metzgeria on the Syzygium 1 cm, 14°C in July, a Moluccan starling, the Tidore cone across the strait. I hit the 1,200 m mossy saddle 09:30, moss on the old Dutch survey post black-green, ate a 25 k IDR Ternate market nasi kuning, watched a spangled drongo work the mist. Mistake: I started 10:00 in August — afternoon cloud on the saddle, zero view, plus the Ake Taja track greased; 06:30 start, turn at 1,200 m if cloud builds. Another: Gamalama jumps to level 2 without notice — check PVMBG in Ternate. Would you ojek 50 + guide 400 k IDR for the Ternate→Gamalama mossy cloud-forest saddle, or skip the volcano and do the clove-plantation + Benteng Oranye history walk instead?

The boat that was leaning on the pier just looked like it was floating because the water was so clear. Hol Sulamadaha.
