The Black Forest in Germany isn’t just about cuckoo clocks and cherry cakes—this magical woodland is a hiking paradise that feels straight out of a fairy tale. Lace up your boots, grab your trail snacks (yes, you need snacks), and prepare for an enchanting adventure. Kick off your day with the Feldbergsteig Trail, a must for breathtaking views and a chance to summit Feldberg, the Black Forest’s tallest peak. Don’t worry, the hike is manageable—even if your fitness level peaks at “I take the stairs sometimes.” Along the way, you’ll pass glistening lakes, lush meadows, and trees that look like they’ve been hiding secrets for centuries. Next, wander into Triberg, home to the famous waterfalls. These cascading waters are the highest in Germany, and the sound alone is worth the trek. Bonus: there’s a decent chance you’ll meet a curious squirrel or two. For a dose of charm, hit the Ravennaschlucht Gorge. This trail winds through a dramatic ravine, complete with wooden bridges and moss-covered rocks. It’s the kind of place where you half-expect an elf to pop out and give you directions. End your day at a traditional Black Forest inn with a hearty plate of spätzle and a slice of Black Forest cake (you earned it). With its whimsical vibes and stunning scenery, a hike in the Black Forest isn’t just a walk—it’s a step into another world.

I spent a good chunk of my vacation traveling through Germany and Luxembourg. As a history buff, there were several places I'd been itching to check out for a while. In Berlin, the absolute highlight for me was the Berlin Cathedral. Getting an up-close look at the newly opened Hohenzollern Crypt, with its countless historic sarcophagi, is truly fascinating. The Brandenburg Gate is another must-see, even if it gets incredibly crowded. On the flip side, I wasn't a huge fan of Potsdamer Platz and all those modern glass structures—personally, it just feels a bit too cold and overly commercial. The trip continued to Cologne, where the cathedral was, of course, an absolute stunner. Over in Luxembourg, I really loved just wandering through the old, hilly streets. I also stumbled upon a few laid-back, local restaurants serving up great, simple food without all the fuss. All things considered, it's a fantastic, low-key itinerary if you appreciate architecture and history.

This is where the original blackforest cake is from: Triberg! It is a little sleepy village in Schwarzwald, Germany and you can get here easily by the inexpensive regional trains. Come through Offenburg and you will be delighted by the landscape, especially during autumn. What to do and see here? 🔸Hike up to one of the highest waterfalls in Germany 🔸Shop for hand carved miniatures 🔸Explore the biggest cuckoo clock shop! 🔸Eat cake 🍰❤️ Cafe Adler claims to have the original blackforest cake recipe and provides a non-alcoholic version too. Take note though, there are other bakeries and cafes that claim to have BETTER than the original. There’s only ONE way to find out: try ‘em all! 😂 There are a few hotels here but it is also great for a day trip. Cafe Alder also provides accommodation. There is a large supermarket, many eateries and pubs to eat the local fare. If you aren’t too keen on bratwursts and sauerkraut, there’s a nice Turkish place that serves great wraps!
