Ubeda travel guide and discussion

Andalusia Tour ~ Jaén (Region) The beautiful Renaissance architecture is the main attraction of this World Heritage city, which, along with neighboring Baeza, is one of the best places in Europe to see Renaissance architecture and get a feel for life during that period. This is a great option for a tour of Andalucia's interior. Beyond the churches, palaces and mansions, the surrounding landscape of olive trees creates a relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant and tapas bar will do the rest, and there's a chance to taste the famous olive oil. A stunning and well-preserved Renaissance town Although past civilizations have left their mark on Úbeda, the town is a unique example of Renaissance town planning and Italianate renovations from the 15th and 16th centuries. Its stunning palace collection fully reflects the power of the nobility at that time. The best place to start exploring the city is the Plaza Vázquez de Molina, one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. Here you will see the Church of El Salvador, the Deán Ortega Palace (now the Parador Hotel), the Town Hall, the Church of Santa María de los Reales Alcázares and the Marqués de Mancera Palace. You should also visit the Plaza de Mayo and the Church of San Pablo (one of the oldest churches), as well as the Hospital de Santiago, known as the "El Escorial of Andalusia". Another surprising secret of Úbeda is the Synagogue del Agua, which was hidden until its discovery in 2007. Cultural festivals are organized to celebrate the day. If you prefer sweeping views, head to the Redonda de Miradores walk to see why Úbeda is known as the “City of a Thousand Hills,” or head to the São Lourenço and San Francisco viewpoints to admire the Sierra de la Májina mountain range and the “ocean” of olive trees (there are more than 65 million in Jaén alone!). #2024TravelReview #SpainTravel #Andalucia

The museum is located in a 14th-century Mudéjar-style house and has been in operation since 1973. It includes Iberian and Roman artifacts discovered at the Úbeda archaeological site, including lions, Roman tombstones, and a large Iberian mill. In the Iberian Hall, the ceramic offerings from the Santisteban Castle are particularly noteworthy.

This building is a testament to architect Vandelvira's significant influence on the town of Úbeda. It is considered the 'Andalusian Escorial' and is likely Vandelvira's most accomplished work. Its simple exterior contrasts sharply with its astonishing interior. The church is particularly worth a visit.

Many of the city's most important buildings are located in this square, including the Town Hall or Palace of Chains, the Parador de Turismo in the Dean Ortega Palace, the Palace of the Marquis of Mancera, the Church of El Salvador, the Collegiate Church of Santa María de los Reales Alcázares, and the old granary. You can also find the monument to Andrés de Vandelvira and the Renaissance fountain in the square. No matter where you look, every corner of Vázquez de Molina Square is a work of art.

There are two "World Heritage Cities" in the Andalusia region of Spain. They are less than 10 kilometers apart and both have more than 50 ancient buildings. They are known as the "World Heritage Twin Cities". This is Úbeda (Figures 1-3) and Baeza (Figures 4-6) in Jaén Province. Although these two cities are close, they are different. Some people commented: "Úbeda is quiet, and Baeza is delicate." Úbeda has a long history. The Sacra Capilla del Salvador in the city is a representative work of Spanish Renaissance architecture; Baeza has a magnificent city hall and the Fuente de los Leones. 🌳It is worth mentioning that the capital of Jaén Province is the hometown of Sanmao's husband, José. "The Olive Tree" depicts Jaén Province. Include these two treasure towns in your next Spanish travel list!
