Helsinki is a favorite stopover destination for those traveling to Europe! With Vantaa Airport just a 30-minute train ride from the city center, it’s an ideal spot for a quick layover or stopover. Here is a practical guide based on my experience, covering everything from airport transport to must-visit local gems. 1. Essential Tips for a Layover Trip Airport (Vantaa) ↔ City Center Train (P/I Lines) From the arrivals hall, just follow the train icons to the basement. Both the P and I lines connect directly to Helsinki Central Station in about 30 minutes. (Pro tip: Buy a Zone ABC single ticket or a 24-hour pass). Helsinki Central Station Luggage Lockers Don't drag your bags around! Use the lockers in the basement of the Central Station to store your luggage so you can explore the city hassle-free. Book Your Sauna in Advance You can't leave Finland without a traditional sauna experience. Popular spots like Löyly sell out fast, so be sure to book your slot on their official website before you even land. 2. Must-Visit Spots & Reviews Helsinki Cathedral & Senate Square Just a 10-minute walk from the station, this iconic landmark features a stunning white facade and green domes. The steps at the square are perfect for people-watching and taking in the city views. Market Square & Old Market Hall Located right by the harbor, this outdoor market is the place to try local delicacies like Finnish salmon stew (Lohikeitto) and fried herring. Temppeliaukio Church (The Rock Church) This incredible church was carved directly into natural rock. The natural light filtering through the copper dome creates a unique atmosphere that's worth a visit. Every time I return from Helsinki Airport (HEL), I arrive early. Besides checking in and storing my luggage, I also like to find a restaurant outside the restricted area (before security) to have a proper meal. Compared to rushing into the waiting area and then finding a place to eat, the dining environment before security is much more relaxed and suitable for dining with friends or family seeing you off. In recent years, Helsinki Airport has added many dining options in the arrival and departure halls, with the Food Hall offering a variety of cuisines, allowing even those not boarding to enjoy a meal. Comfortable dining environment, more than just fast food options When I first visited HEL Airport, I initially thought there would only be simple coffee shops or fast food options outside the restricted area. However, after exploring, I found it much more diverse than I expected. Besides familiar coffee brands, there are also Nordic light meals, Mediterranean cuisine, burgers, American dishes, and international cuisine in the Food Hall. Whether you're traveling alone or with your family, you can find something to suit your taste. The overall space design continues the minimalist Finnish style, with bright lighting and spacious seating, avoiding the crowded and noisy feeling typical of airport restaurants. My Top Recommendations After dining there, I highly recommend the following types of restaurants: · Nordic Light Meal Restaurants · Salads, sandwiches, and soups are fresh and delicious. · They use a lot of salmon, rye bread, and local vegetables. · Suitable for those who don't want to eat anything too greasy before their flight. · Food Hall · A variety of different cuisines at once. · Offers Mexican, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and hot dog options. · If your travel companions have different tastes, it's very convenient for them to order separately and then eat together. · Coffee and Desserts · Coffee culture is very popular in Finland. · A hot coffee with a cinnamon roll or dessert makes for a comfortable way to end your trip. My Real Dining Experience I chose a Nordic-style light meal with a hot coffee. The food wasn't overly seasoned, but rather focused on the freshness of the ingredients. Smoked salmon served with lettuce, potatoes, and rye bread—it looks simple, but the quality of the ingredients is evident. The coffee is rich in aroma yet smooth, perfectly reflecting the characteristics of Finnish everyday eating. What I liked most was the overall pace of the meal. Without the pressure of rushing, I could leisurely organize my travel photos and enjoy the view of passengers coming and going through the large floor-to-ceiling windows. Compared to the often crowded waiting area after security, the area outside the restricted zone felt much more relaxed. Dining Tips If you're heading to HEL Airport, consider the following: · It's recommended to finish checking in before having your meal, allowing for more flexibility. · If someone in your group isn't flying, you can have a final meal together at a restaurant outside the restricted zone. · There may still be a wait during peak hours, so allow plenty of time for dining. · For a taste of Finnish specialties, consider Nordic cuisine using local ingredients. · For those who enjoy trying different flavors, head straight to the Food Hall for the widest selection. Overall Recommendation What impressed me most about Helsinki Airport wasn't just its clear layout and clean environment, but also its well-planned dining options before security. The restaurants here aren't just for quick meals; they're more like a wonderful finale to your trip. Whether you want a simple coffee, a light Scandinavian meal, or a leisurely meal with friends and family before boarding, you'll find something to suit your taste. If time allows, I recommend arriving at the airport a little earlier and incorporating dining into your itinerary. Slowing down, enjoying a meal in a bright and comfortable space, and then embarking on your journey home with fond memories will make your Finnish trip a more complete and beautiful ending.

Upon arriving at Helsinki Airport station, simply follow the Airport and Terminal signs. The layout is excellent, with clear signage throughout, making it easy to navigate even for first-timers. First Impressions After Arriving at the Outer Restricted Area Hall Entering the terminal hall, the most striking impression is its bright and well-organized space. The outer restricted area hall utilizes extensive glass curtain walls, allowing natural light to flood the space. Even with a large number of passengers, it doesn't feel crowded. The overall design continues Finland's signature minimalist style, combining wooden elements with modern architecture to create a comfortable and warm atmosphere. The hall offers ample seating, making it convenient for waiting for travel companions, organizing luggage, or simply relaxing. For passengers arriving early, there's no need to rush through check-in queues; they can unwind in the public spaces first. Excellent Facilities Outside the Restricted Area Before checking in, there are numerous convenient facilities outside the restricted area. Cafés, restaurants, convenience stores, souvenir shops, and self-service check-in kiosks are all conveniently located around the hall, saving you considerable time searching. If you have any remaining travel funds, you can purchase Finnish chocolates, biscuits, coffee, or Scandinavian-designed souvenirs at the shops as final gifts. There are ample restrooms, and they are kept quite clean, making it convenient to freshen up before a long trip. If you have a lot of luggage, there are luggage carts available to make moving around easier. Some helpful tips: If you are planning to travel from Helsinki city center to the airport, the following points are worth noting: · Allow plenty of time, especially during peak tourist season when there may be many passengers. · Train services are frequent, but it's still advisable to confirm departure times in advance for more flexibility. · Large luggage can be placed in designated areas on the train without disturbing other passengers. · Upon arrival at the airport, simply follow the Terminal signs; there's no need to worry about directions. · If your flight is late, you can rest or have a meal in the lobby outside the restricted area before proceeding to check-in. Genuine Experience Sharing Overall, the transportation experience from Helsinki city center to Helsinki Airport was quite smooth, once again demonstrating the high efficiency of Finland's public transport system. From boarding the bus in the city center, arriving at the airport station, to entering the outer terminal, every step was meticulously planned, with virtually no need to worry about getting lost or having difficulty transferring. I particularly appreciated the spacious and bright design of the airport terminal; it didn't feel overly crowded or noisy, allowing me to maintain a relaxed and pleasant mood even while waiting to board. For independent travelers, whether it's their first visit to Finland or the end of their trip, Helsinki Airport leaves a positive final impression. If you're planning a self-guided trip in Helsinki, I recommend not rushing on the last day. Take public transport to the airport, arrive at the outer terminal early, and leisurely enjoy the last moments of your journey. The convenient transportation from the city center to the airport not only showcases Finland's emphasis on efficiency, comfort, and passenger experience, providing a perfect ending to your Scandinavian trip.

My previous impressions of airport restaurants were mostly of high prices and limited choices, but this time, waiting in the restricted area of Helsinki Airport completely changed my mind. After passing through security, the dining options were much more abundant than expected. Whether you wanted Finnish specialties, Nordic brunch, burgers, pizza, Asian food, or even just a coffee and cinnamon roll, you could find a suitable place. In recent years, the airport has continuously expanded its dining space, and now there are dozens of restaurants and cafes in the restricted area, significantly improving the overall dining quality. Because I arrived at the airport early this time, I had ample time to explore, and I discovered that Helsinki Airport is actually a great place to make waiting time a part of your trip, rather than just rushing to grab a sandwich and board. The restaurants in the restricted area have a comfortable environment. The dining space in the restricted area is quite spacious, with plenty of seating, unlike some large airports where it's difficult to find a seat. There is sufficient distance between the restaurants, so even with many passengers, it doesn't feel too crowded. Large floor-to-ceiling windows offer views of the tarmac and aircraft taking off and landing, making the wait for boarding much more relaxing while you dine. Many restaurants also provide charging outlets, which is very convenient for travelers who need to organize photos or handle work. Recommended Restaurant Types I particularly like the following types: · Nordic Cuisine Restaurants If it's your first time in Finland, I recommend taking the last chance to try Nordic cuisine. Salmon, potatoes, rye bread, and various soups are all representative, with simple flavors that showcase the freshness of the ingredients. · Cafes Finnishes love coffee, so the coffee quality in the airport is quite good. Paired with cinnamon rolls or berry desserts, it makes for a very authentic Nordic afternoon tea. · Pizza and Burgers If you're taking a long-haul flight and want to eat before boarding, pizza and burgers are good choices. The food is made to order and the portions are generous. · Asian Cuisine There are also ramen and Asian restaurants in the restricted area. If you're craving familiar flavors after traveling for several days, you can find hot food to enjoy. Real Dining Experience This time, I chose a Nordic-style restaurant and ordered a hot dish with a drink. The food is simply presented, with fresh ingredients and minimal seasoning, showcasing the natural and pure characteristics of Finnish cuisine. While slightly more expensive than in the city, it's reasonable for an airport restaurant, and the overall quality is better than many international airports. The staff are friendly, and even with many passengers, the food is served efficiently. After your meal, you have time to stroll and browse the shops without rushing to the boarding gate. Waiting Time Recommendations If time permits, I recommend allowing at least one to two hours and not rushing directly to the boarding gate. Besides restaurants, there are many cafes, bakeries, and souvenir shops nearby for leisurely browsing. For early morning flights, many restaurants offer breakfast, including oatmeal, hot breakfast items, and freshly baked bread, offering a wide variety of choices. My Useful Tips · It's recommended to complete tax refunds and security checks early before dining. · Peak dining times are around noon and evening; try to avoid peak hours. · For a truly Finnish experience, prioritize Nordic cuisine or cafes. · Most restaurants accept credit cards or mobile payments, making payment convenient. · If time is limited, takeaway services are also available, allowing you to enjoy your meal directly at the boarding gate. Overall Impression Helsinki Airport is more than just a transit or boarding point; it's a small lifestyle hub combining delicious food, stylish design, and comfortable spaces. I used to think airport restaurants were just a place to grab a bite, but after this experience, I found that the food quality, ambiance, and service all exceeded my expectations. If you have the opportunity to depart from Helsinki Airport, I highly recommend not rushing straight to the gate, but instead taking some time to choose a restaurant you like in the restricted area and enjoy your last meal of the trip. Watching planes take off and land while enjoying the minimalist Nordic atmosphere allows your journey to conclude in a relaxed and satisfying way, leaving you with a final, unforgettable memory of your Finnish trip.

This trip to Scandinavia ended with a flight back from Helsinki Airport. I initially thought the airport duty-free shops would be similar to other international airports, but once inside the restricted area, I discovered a collection of Finnish brands, Nordic design products, and unique souvenirs. The shopping space was comfortable, and the selection was quite comprehensive. If you have enough time, I highly recommend checking in and going through security early, allowing at least one to two hours to browse at your leisure. You'll often find many worthwhile souvenirs to take home. The shopping environment in the restricted area is comfortable and stress-free. After security, the entire restricted area is spacious, with a clear layout and bright lighting, without feeling overly crowded. Even during peak tourist season, the flow of people remains orderly, allowing for leisurely comparison and selection without the need for rushing to buy. The shops are concentrated near the main departure area, making it easy to find what you want to shop for, whether you're preparing for a European flight or a long-haul international flight, without having to drag your luggage around. A Wide Selection of Nordic Specialty Products Compared to typical international airports, Helsinki Airport's biggest feature is its abundance of Finnish-specific goods. These include representative Nordic-designed lifestyle products, insulated mugs, stationery, tableware, home decor, small souvenirs, and various items inspired by forest themes. The designs maintain the typical Nordic minimalist style, making them high-quality gifts or personal items. If you enjoy collecting local specialties, you can find many small items featuring Finnish natural landscapes, reindeer, the aurora borealis, forests, or lakes—each a cherished travel memento. Top Souvenir Recommendations Based on my shopping experience, I recommend the following categories: · Nordic-designed brand lifestyle products, combining practicality and collectability. · Finnish chocolates, biscuits, and candies, beautifully packaged and easy to carry. · Berry products and jams, bursting with Nordic natural flavor. · Coffee and specialty teas, perfect for friends and family who enjoy fine beverages. · Finnish wooden handicrafts and small souvenirs are small in size but very distinctive. If you're traveling with a large group of friends or family, you can buy several small packages of snacks at once. They're convenient to share, and prices are usually easier to compare than in souvenir shops in the city. Duty-free goods are worth comparing at your leisure. Besides souvenirs, there's a wide selection of duty-free goods such as perfumes, cosmetics, and alcohol. Many international brands can be found, and occasionally there are limited-edition special offers. If you already plan to buy something, compare promotions at several stores; sometimes bundled packages are more cost-effective than buying individual items. However, I personally prefer to focus on Finnish-exclusive items, as these are harder to find back home and have more travel souvenir value. Enjoy the Nordic atmosphere while waiting for your flight. Helsinki Airport impressed me not only with its convenient shopping but also with its consistently simple and comfortable Nordic design. There's ample space between shops, preventing a feeling of confinement. The waiting area has plenty of seating and charging facilities, so even after shopping, you can relax, organize your purchases, and wait for boarding. Many travelers enjoyed a cup of coffee and dessert while watching planes take off and land through the large floor-to-ceiling windows, making the last leg of their journey quite pleasant. Shopping Tips For first-time visitors to Helsinki Airport, here are a few things to keep in mind: · Complete security early to allow ample time for duty-free shopping. · Buy popular souvenirs as soon as you see them to avoid them being sold out on your return trip. · Ask shop assistants to help pack fragile items properly for easy carrying. · Be aware of airline regulations regarding carry-on baggage and liquids to avoid affecting boarding. · If you have Euro change, use it before departure to reduce leftover cash. Real Experience Sharing Many people consider Helsinki Airport merely a transit point, but once I entered the restricted area, I felt it was like a miniature version of Finland. From product design and shopping environment to service quality, it maintained the simple, meticulous, and comfortable style of Scandinavia, allowing me to experience the charm of this country even at the end of my trip. For me, this place is more than just a duty-free shopping destination; it's a perfect ending to my Scandinavian trip. Whether it's picking out a few boxes of chocolates, a Nordic-designed trinkets, or bringing back Finnish-themed souvenirs, every item carries precious memories of the journey. Next time I visit Helsinki, I'll still arrive at the airport early to dedicate my last moments to this Nordic-style duty-free shopping space, creating a memorable conclusion to my trip.

During my trip to Helsinki, I chose to travel to and from the airport by train. I was initially worried that using Finland's public transport system for the first time might be complicated, but after experiencing it, I found it much simpler than I imagined. Whether traveling from Helsinki Central Railway Station to Helsinki Airport, or getting from the airport into the city, the train made it easy. The services are frequent, punctual, and the carriages are clean and comfortable, making it ideal for independent travelers. From the city center, the transportation is quite intuitive. I chose to take the train from Helsinki Central Railway Station to the airport. The station signs were very clear; just follow the "Airport" or train platform signs, and you'll quickly find the correct boarding point. There are two main circular routes to the airport. Although they travel in different directions, they both eventually reach the airport, so there's no need to worry too much about getting on the wrong train, as long as you make sure the train passes Helsinki Airport. Trains run very frequently, so even if you miss one, the wait isn't too long, making it perfect for travelers who don't like to rush. The carriages are comfortable, and carrying large luggage is no problem. I was initially worried about the inconvenience of getting on and off the train because I had a large suitcase, but after boarding, I found it to be completely stress-free. The carriages have a low-floor design, and the platform and carriage height are similar in most stations, eliminating the need to lift heavy luggage. There are also dedicated spaces for large luggage; even a 28-inch suitcase can be easily accommodated without obstructing the aisle. The seats are spacious and clean, and the carriages are bright and quiet. Most passengers were quietly reading or using their laptops, creating a comfortable overall travel environment that fully demonstrates the high quality of Finnish public transport. The scenery along the way is full of Nordic charm. After leaving the city center, the scenery outside the window gradually changes from urban buildings to forests, residential areas, and open green spaces. If you travel in summer, you can enjoy lush green forests; in winter, you might see snow-covered landscapes. Although it's just a short journey, you can feel the unique blend of Finland's natural environment and urban life. I especially enjoyed sitting by the window, admiring the view while organizing my travel photos. The journey to the airport felt more like a final, cherished memory of my trip. The airport layout was clear upon arrival. After arriving at Helsinki Airport, simply follow the terminal signs to enter the airport. The passageways are equipped with elevators, escalators, and facilities for the disabled, making it easy to reach the check-in hall even with large luggage. The overall layout from the platform to the airline check-in counters was well-planned, making it easy to navigate without getting lost. If it's your first time in Helsinki, you can take the train directly from the airport to the city center. All signs are in English, so there's no need to worry about language barriers. My experience: My biggest impression this time was how efficient Finland's public transport system is. The entire journey was smooth and quiet. The trains departed and arrived on time, without crowds or excessive noise. Even during rush hour, the overall ride was quite comfortable. Compared to taking a taxi, it not only saved on transportation costs but also eliminated the worry of traffic delays affecting arrival time at the airport. For independent travelers, this is a convenient and economical option. Travel Tips · It's recommended to purchase or confirm your travel tickets in advance to save time on-site. · Double-check train information and schedules before departure for more flexibility. · If you're carrying large luggage, arrive at the platform a few minutes early to easily find the luggage storage area. · For early morning or late-night flights, confirm the first and last train times to avoid missing your train. · Allow ample time for getting to the airport, including travel time, security checks, and check-in. Personal Experience Overall, I highly recommend taking the train from Helsinki city center to Helsinki Airport. From purchasing tickets and waiting for the train to arriving at the airport, every step was very smooth and very friendly to first-time visitors to Finland. There were no complicated transfers or long waiting times; simply follow the clear signs to easily complete the journey. For me, this was more than just a simple transportation experience; it was a microcosm of Finland's emphasis on efficiency, order, and the quality of public services. If I visit Helsinki again in the future, I will still choose to take the train to and from the airport without hesitation. It saves time and effort and allows me to maintain a relaxed pace from start to finish.

Whenever I travel to Finland, I always crave authentic, locally-inspired souvenirs rather than the usual magnets or postcards. On my way back from Helsinki Airport this time, I intentionally carved out some time to explore the Moomin Shop inside the terminal. The experience totally blew my mind—not only was the product selection massive, but the store’s interior felt like stepping straight into the magical world of Moominvalley. It gave me one last deep dive into Finnish vibes right before my flight. Located in the departure transit area of Helsinki Airport, the Moomin Shop boasts over a thousand Moomin-themed items. From mugs, plushies, and stationery to apparel and everyday lifestyle goods, it has everything you could imagine, making it one of the most popular specialty stores at the airport. Stepping In Feels Like Entering the Moomin Fairytale World My first impression upon walking in was how incredibly warm and inviting the color palette felt. With giant Moomin figures, forest-themed decor, and storybook scene designs, paired with soft, relaxing lighting, it felt less like a standard airport shop and more like a boutique exhibition space. Even if you aren't a hardcore collector, it’s hard not to be drawn in by the comforting and adorable atmosphere. Many travelers were happily snapping photos while browsing. Kids, especially, were so thrilled spotting Moomin and Little My plushies that they simply didn't want to leave. An Incredibly Comprehensive Product Range I originally planned to pick up just one souvenir, but the longer I stayed, the harder it became to choose. Some of the most memorable items included: · Arabia Moomin Mugs: Classic and highly collectible. · Assorted Moomin Plushies: Every character is exquisitely crafted and insanely cute. · Canvas Totes, Coin Purses, and Reusable Bags: Practical with great design aesthetics. · Fridge Magnets, Keychains, and Postcards: Perfect little gifts for friends. · Children's Books and Picture Books: Available in multiple languages. · Tableware, Thermoses, and Stationery: Both useful and memorable. Whether you're gift-shopping or treating yourself, you're bound to find something perfect. Top Souvenir Recommendations If you’re buying Moomin merch for the first time, here are my top picks: · Arabia Mugs Though a bit pricey, the quality is exceptional. They are an absolute must-buy for collectors, with each design featuring a unique backstory. Truly worth collecting. · Airport-Exclusive Items Some products are only available at this airport branch. If something catches your eye, grab it—you might not find it downtown. · Plushies and Dolls Soft, detailed, and perfect for gifting to kids or keeping for yourself. · Reusable Eco-Bags Affordable and lightweight, you can start using them right away on your trip. Super practical! My Actual Shopping Experience What I loved most was the incredibly friendly service from the staff. They were super enthusiastic and helpful, even when I asked where to find specific character items. The merchandise is neatly organized, with dedicated display zones for each character, making it easy to browse at your own pace without feeling overwhelmed or cluttered. Plus, the packaging is meticulous. Fragile items like ceramic mugs get extra protective wrapping, offering great peace of mind for travelers packing them into their luggage. While airport prices might be slightly higher than in the city, the convenience is unbeatable. It saves you the hassle of rushing around downtown on your final day, making it the perfect final stop to spend your leftover Euros on something truly memorable. Quick Shopping Tips · Budget 30 to 60 minutes for browsing—trust me, you'll need it. · Don't hesitate to ask the staff for extra padding on fragile items. · If you spot a limited-edition item or a design you love, don't wait around. Popular stuff sells out fast! · You can always price-check in the city first before deciding to stock up at the airport. · Buying right before boarding is incredibly convenient—no need to lug souvenirs around during your trip. Final Thoughts For me, the Moomin Shop at Helsinki Airport isn't just a souvenir store; it’s like putting a heartwarming period at the end of a Finnish journey. From the moment you walk in and see familiar faces like Moomin, Little My, and Snufkin, every item echoes a Finnish fairytale. It brings back memories of the forests, lakes, and tranquil streets experienced during the trip. Taking your time here before leaving Finland to pick out a few favorite keepsakes feels less like just bringing home cute characters, and more like collecting the beautiful memories of your entire journey. If you’re a Moomin fan or just looking for a truly representative Finnish souvenir, I highly recommend making the Helsinki Airport Moomin Shop your last stop before boarding. Even a brief visit to this magical little store will leave you with the warmest, most comforting memories of your Finnish adventure.

When traveling to Helsinki, if you want to pick out the most characteristic Finnish souvenirs, I highly recommend making a stop at Food Market Herkku. Located inside a downtown department store, this is where many locals shop for premium ingredients and specialty foods. It's more than just a supermarket; it's an exquisite food hall. From fresh seafood and artisan bread to various Finnish food brands, you can browse them all in one go. The store boasts a rich variety of neatly displayed products, making for a very comfortable shopping experience. It's a place I make a point to revisit every time I'm in Helsinki. Renowned for its high-quality ingredients and fine foods, Food Market Herkku has even earned international food retail acclaim, making it the perfect spot to hunt for exquisite souvenirs. After actually exploring it this time, I've compiled a list of what I consider the most worthwhile souvenirs to buy—perfect both for gifting and for treating yourself. 1. Fazer Chocolate You absolutely cannot miss Fazer chocolate when visiting Finland. The most classic is the milk chocolate in the iconic blue wrapper. It's rich, smooth, and not overly sweet, serving as the national brand many Finnish families have grown up eating. Besides the classic flavor, you can also find special editions like berry, hazelnut, caramel, and sea salt, which are great for stocking up on different varieties to share back home. If your travel buddies don't know what to buy, I usually recommend just picking up a Fazer assorted gift box—the packaging is beautiful and makes for a great gift. 2. Finnish Berry Jam The Finnish forests nurture an abundance of wild berries, so the quality of all kinds of berry jams here is exceptionally high. My absolute favorites are: · Lingonberry jam · Cloudberry jam · Bilberry jam Whether paired with toast, yogurt, pancakes, or cheese, they are incredibly delicious and let you taste the pure flavor of Finland's natural forests. 3. Berry Juice Concentrate Finns love making berry juice concentrates. Just add ice water or sparkling water, and it transforms into a refreshing beverage. I particularly recommend the blackcurrant, lingonberry, and mixed forest berry flavors. The sweet-and-sour ratio is just right—perfect for summer drinks. Plus, they have a long shelf life, making them very easy to bring back home. 4. Oat Products Finnish oats are world-renowned for their quality, making oat-related products highly popular souvenirs as well. Such as: · Instant oatmeal · Oat cookies · Oat crisps · Oat energy bars Reasonably priced, healthy, and filling, they are perfect for breakfast or afternoon tea. 5. Finnish Coffee Finland is a country with remarkably high coffee consumption globally, so there's a massive selection of coffee brands. If you're already in the habit of drinking black coffee, you can pick up some locally roasted coffee beans or ground coffee. The aroma is mild and not overly bitter, making it perfect for daily brewing. Pairing it with some chocolate makes for a fantastic, authentically Finnish gift. 6. Licorice Candy When I first saw Finnish licorice candy, I was actually a bit hesitant, but I decided to buy a bag to try anyway. Upon tasting, it has a distinct licorice aroma—sweet with a hint of saltiness. It's a very unique Nordic snack. Although it's definitely a love-it-or-hate-it flavor, if you enjoy trying unique foods from different countries, it's highly worth experiencing. It is also a classic souvenir recommended by many travelers. My Shopping Experience The biggest advantage of Food Market Herkku is that you can buy all your premium Finnish foods in one place, saving you from running around to multiple supermarkets. Aside from souvenirs, the deli, cheese, and bakery sections are also incredibly tempting. If you get tired from walking, you can drop by the in-store Bistro to savor a piping hot bowl of salmon soup, bringing your shopping trip to a perfect close. I suggest setting aside at least an hour to browse at a leisurely pace, as every section easily makes you want to stop and look. The sheer variety of chocolates, jams, and cookies is especially vast—after carefully comparing them, your shopping basket will often fill up before you know it. Shopping Tips · Remember to save some luggage weight allowance; it's easy to overbuy chocolate, jam, and coffee. · Make sure to pack jams and juice concentrates in your checked luggage. · Bring a cooler bag for chocolate in the summer to prevent it from melting. · If you want to buy limited-edition items, check out the seasonal section first. They frequently release special packaging for Christmas, Easter, or summer. · You can also pick up some Finnish specialty cookies, honey, and spices along the way—they all make very practical gifts. Overall, Food Market Herkku is more than just a supermarket; it's a culinary temple showcasing Finnish food culture. From the national chocolate and forest berries to oat products and various fine foods, you can truly feel the Finnish appreciation for natural ingredients and quality. To me, what I bring home from every trip isn't just souvenirs, but the flavors and memories I tasted along the way. If you come to Helsinki, why not set aside some time for a proper stroll here? I believe you'll definitely find the most representative Finnish flavors and the best specialty souvenirs to share with family and friends.

When flying with Finnair, most routes include a layover in Helsinki, Finland. Even if you aren't flying Business Class, you can still pay for access to their business class lounge for about HK$360 (you can grab a pass directly on the app, which is super convenient!). This lounge offers incredible value for money! I've been there twice already. It features Nordic-style decor, and you'll inevitably spot some Moomins. The ambiance is elegant, and having storage lockers available is incredibly handy. The food quality is excellent—breakfast is served before 10:30 AM, followed by lunch and dinner at their respective times. And, of course, you can't miss Finnair's famous signature blueberry juice. There's also a super stylish bar, making it the perfect spot to kick back with a glass of wine 🍷. The highlight is definitely the ultra-comfortable shower facilities. Freshening up with a great shower before a long-haul flight feels amazing. The seating is well-spaced to ensure plenty of privacy, making it the ultimate spot for some quiet rest. [Location]: Terminal 2, Helsinki Airport [Hours]: Daily 05:30-24:00 [How to Access]: Purchase via the app and use instantly, no reservations required 👍 Perfect for layovers, waiting, and relaxing—absolutely worth the HK$360!

Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, the gateway to Finland, was far more comfortable than I imagined! ✨ It's not just a transit point; you could easily spend half a day here! 🏨 1. You can "really sleep" at the airport!? Amazing rest spots The abundance of places to lie down is a godsend for families with children. Especially these futuristic, shelter-like chairs! Kids are thrilled, feeling like they're in a secret base, and adults can get a real nap. Long layovers are a breeze with this. 🎨 2. The entire airport is a photo spot! Full of Nordic design Everywhere you take a picture is picturesque, but the Christmas shop is especially recommended 🎄 You can feel like Santa all year round, and you won't be able to stop choosing souvenirs! 💙 3. A mecca for Moomin lovers! Moomin Cafe & Shop At the Moomin Shop, large Moomin and Snufkin figures welcome you! The Moomin Cafe is also filled with Moomin characters, which is exciting! "Is this really airport quality!?" I couldn't believe how cute it was, and my photo folder ended up filled with Moomin pictures (lol). 🥪 4. Plenty of great food! Enjoy the taste of Finland to the very end. The display case was filled with Nordic-style salmon sandwiches and colorful berry sweets! The prices are a bit high, but I recommend enjoying Finland to the fullest here at the end of your trip. It was the best airport; waiting time at the airport turned from "pain" to "enjoyment"! 🇫🇮✈️ #Finland #Helsinki #HelsinkiVantaa #OverseasTravelGuide #moomin

🗓️September 19, 2025 - September 29, 2025 I traveled to six cities in four countries over 11 days and nine nights! This page shares the actual itinerary I followed in Helsinki on Days 1 and 10. I only had about a full day to myself, but even though I couldn't relax, I was still able to see a lot of the sights, which was great. I've included the approximate times, so I hope this helps anyone planning to visit. 🫶 September 19 (Fri) 3:10 PM Arrived at Helsinki Airport 🛩️ 5:00 PM Departed from Scandic Helsinki Aviacongress (Hotel) 📍 7:00 PM Löyly Helsinki (Sauna) 12:00 AM Arrived at Scandic Helsinki Aviacongress (Hotel) This was the first day of my trip, arriving at Helsinki Airport on a 3:10 PM flight. After dropping off my luggage at the hotel I had booked near the airport, I headed to the sauna I had reserved. After using the sauna for two hours, I had dinner in Löyly Helsinki and then returned to the hotel. Sunday, September 28th 9:10 AM Depart from Scandic Simonkenttä (Hotel) 📍 9:20 AM Ekberg 1852 (Cafe) 📍 10:40 AM Esplanade Park 📍 10:50 AM Old Market Hall 📍 10:55 AM Market Square 📍 11:10 AM Rest on the deck next to SkyWheel Helsinki 📍 11:50 AM Helsinki Cathedral 📍 12:20 PM Market Square 📍 12:50 PM Uspenski Cathedral 📍 1:35 PM Free time Souvenir shopping around Stockmann - Helsinki Central Station - Kamppi Station 3:00 PM Arrive at Scandic Simonkenttä (Hotel) 6:25 PM Depart from Helsinki Airport✈️ Leave the hotel and head to Ekberg We had breakfast at 1852. Afterwards, we explored the area in the order listed. Speaking of Helsinki, Helsinki Cathedral is a must-see! About 70% of it was covered by construction work, so tourists were not allowed inside due to the service, which was a shame, but it was larger and more impressive than I had imagined, and it was worth going just to see it. The stairs were also higher than I thought, so if I had had the time, I would have liked to sit and just stare into space. We waited until Uspenski Cathedral opened at 1pm before we were able to enter. Both the exterior and interior were beautiful. It is located on a hill and can be seen from the Market Square, making it a very impressive sight. We took the tram from Uspenski Cathedral to STOCKMANN, and walked everywhere else except when heading to the airport. #Helsinki #HelsinkiSightseeing #Finland #FinlandTrip #Scandinavian #ScandinavianTrip #EuropeTrip #FinnishSauna

🗓️September 19, 2025 - September 29, 2025 I traveled to six cities in four countries over 11 days and nine nights! This page summarizes the main meals and food costs. I didn't exchange any currency this time and paid entirely by credit card. The Japanese yen figures shown in the image are the credit card withdrawal amounts. Due to the weak yen, eating out felt a little more expensive than in Japan. Prices were roughly 1.5 to 2 times higher than in Japan. The portions of each dish often seemed larger than in Japan. I hope this helps those planning to travel, including the cost information. 🫶 🌏📍🕊️ Places I Visited [Finland🇫🇮] Helsinki, Inari (Ivalo), Rovaniemi [Denmark🇩🇰] Copenhagen [Sweden🇸🇪] Stockholm [Estonia🇪🇪] Tallinn #Finland #Helsinki #Denmark #Copenhagen #Sweden #Stockholm #Estonia #Tallinn #Scandinavian #EuropeTrip #EuropeTrip

🗓️2025/09/19〜2025/09/29 I traveled through 4 countries and 6 cities over 9 nights and 11 days! Since the hotels were mainly for sleeping, I chose places that were convenient for transportation, affordable, and had decent water facilities (cleanliness, no water flooding on the floor, etc.). Single beds in Nordic countries were quite narrow everywhere. Haha. All bookings were room-only. (However, the hotel in Stockholm included a free breakfast.) 🏨 Scandic Helsinki Aviacongress 📍Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮 (near Helsinki Airport) Since the first day's plan was only to visit a sauna facility after arriving in Helsinki and then depart early the next morning for Copenhagen, I chose this hotel near the airport. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to and from the airport, which operates from early morning. Although it's far from Helsinki city center, there is a bus stop near the hotel that provides access to the city. The room was clean and spacious. The price was also affordable, making it a great choice for those with a similar schedule. 🏨 Copenhagen Island Hotel 📍Copenhagen, Denmark 🇩🇰 Hotel prices in Copenhagen were generally higher compared to other cities, possibly because it was a Saturday. Since I planned to take a bus to Stockholm the next day, I chose this hotel for its proximity to the bus terminal and reasonable price. The hotel is close to the station and bus stops, and it's just one stop away from the central station, making transportation convenient. Although I only passed through on my way to the station, there is a shopping mall next to the hotel. The room was clean and well-maintained. 🏨 Queen's Hotel by First Hotels 📍Stockholm, Sweden 🇸🇪 I searched for a hotel close to Stockholm Central Station and affordable. Although it seemed a bit far to walk from the central station and the hotel appeared slightly old, I booked it with the mindset that it was just for one night's sleep and it wouldn't matter much if it wasn't great. In the end, the distance was walkable even with luggage, and the roads weren't too bumpy, so there were no issues. The room was simple yet clean, with enough space to spread out luggage. The elevator was an old-fashioned manual type, which added a European charm. The free breakfast was also a nice bonus. 🏨 Ivalo River Camping 📍Ivalo, Finland 🇫🇮 For the three days of aurora viewing, I wanted to stay at a place with an aurora hut on the last day, so I chose this place for the first two nights to save costs. Although I had never stayed in a cottage before and was a bit worried about the shared toilet and shower facilities outside the cottage, they were very clean and well-maintained, so there were no issues. Note that bed linens and towels are charged separately from the accommodation fee (€12/person, quite expensive). There is also a laundry room with a washing machine and dryer (€15/3 hours, though I didn't use it as I brought my own detergent). Unfortunately, the weather was bad at night, so I couldn't see the aurora, but I was able to enjoy a beautiful sunset by the river just across the road. 🏨 Holiday Village Inari 📍Inari, Finland 🇫🇮 I had always wanted to stay in an aurora hut, so I booked this place. It is located by Lake Inari, and the room was spacious with a luxurious atmosphere. There are supermarkets and souvenir shops nearby. The room was equipped with cutlery, which was helpful for meals with food bought from the supermarket. I had a personal tour reservation that required confirmation, and the staff kindly assisted me with the phone call. Although I couldn't spend much time in the room due to a rescheduled aurora tour, I was able to see the aurora from the room after returning from the tour, making it a truly dreamy experience. 🥹🤍 🏨 Scandic Simonkenttä 📍Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮 Located right behind the Kamppi Chapel, this hotel is directly connected to Kamppi Station and within walking distance to Helsinki Central Station. A tram stops right in front of the hotel, providing direct access to the ferry terminal for trips to Tallinn. Kamppi Station has the Kamppi Center, a large shopping mall with stores like Marimekko and supermarkets. The supermarket stays open relatively late, which was helpful when I was short on time. Near the central station, there is also a 24-hour supermarket. The location is excellent for sightseeing in Helsinki, and the hotel is stylish and charming with a Nordic vibe.

I flew to Helsinki, Finland on Finnair Business Class 🇫🇮 I'd always dreamed of Finland. And I'd seen Finnair Business Class on social media. I was so happy and excited. This time, I boarded the Kansai International Airport to Helsinki route. I was given a welcome drink as soon as I boarded. I chose the blueberry drink! If you're flying, you absolutely have to try it! 🫐It was so delicious that I ended up buying the blueberry juice Finnair offers at a local supermarket. 🥹 I ate two meals a day: dinner and breakfast! For dinner, I could choose between Japanese or Western. 🍽️ It was all served in one sitting, which made it incredibly easy to eat! The best thing about this AirLounge was that it could be folded flat! It came with a mattress pad, so I was able to sleep soundly and comfortably without feeling cold. I slept for over eight hours before I realized it. 💤It was the first time I'd ever slept so comfortably on a plane. The Finnair flight was decked out in all sorts of Marimekko. I was so excited and happy even before I arrived in Finland ♡ And the Finnair flight attendants were so kind, warm, and comforting. Their polite yet friendly service was just right for me. If I ever go to Finland again, Finnair is my only choice 🇫🇮 #overseastravel #finland #finnair #businessclass #mytravelplan

[Access with Oneworld Sapphire] It is located at the top of the stairs near gate 20 in the Schengen area of Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. This time I entered with Oneworld Sapphire status. It is less crowded than the non-Schengen lounges, so it is convenient when you want to use it quickly. [Compact but tasteful] Simple design based on white. There are no large windows, but the soft indirect lighting creates a calm atmosphere. The number of seats is moderate, so there is always a moderate amount of space. [Light self-service buffet] The menu is mainly light, such as bread, yogurt, fruit, and salad. Each dish is of high quality and is enough for a short break. The coffee machine is also professional, so you can enjoy a cappuccino or cafe latte quickly. [Full range of drinks] In addition to soft drinks, beer and wine are also self-service and easy to use. There is also Nordic craft beer, so you can experience a little "local feeling". [Simple workspace available] There is a small work counter at the back of the lounge, equipped with power outlets and Wi-Fi. You can easily check emails or work on documents. [Ideal for short transits] Perfect for a quick stopover between trips within Schengen. This lounge is more for a "quick break and snack" than a long stay. #Let's go abroad #finnairlounge #Helsinki airport #inside Schengen #lounge review #airportlounge #Nordic lounge #travelhack #finnair #Finnair #Helsinki #helsinki #helsinkiairport #oneworld #Europe travel #finland #Finland

Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport features two lounges operated by Finnair (one on the Schengen side and the other on the non-Schengen side). I visited the lounge on the non-Schengen side 🕊️ The lounge is characterized by Nordic design, offering a comfortable space and a variety of services 🤍 It is free to use for Finnair and oneworld business class passengers, as well as oneworld Sapphire/Emerald members and their companions ✨ The lounge is spacious, with a wide selection of food and drinks❕ There’s even a bartender providing cocktail services, making it an ideal spot for long layovers. I had a very pleasant and comfortable experience ☺️

If you're looking for a place to stay near Helsinki International Airport in Finland, I highly recommend the Hilton Helsinki Airport 🤍 The hotel is conveniently listed in the airport's directions, and it took less than 10 minutes to walk there from the exit ✨ Despite being close to the airport, the area is very quiet and has a calm atmosphere, which was great 🥰 The rooms aren't particularly spacious, but they are very clean and stylish. The bright bathroom with a bathtub was a delightful touch 🛁 Amenities like shampoo and other toiletries were well-stocked, and the bed was super comfortable, making for a hassle-free stay 🙌🏻
