On July 19, we transferred from Zurich to Zermatt. We needed to change to a cogwheel train at Visp to reach the town. The entire journey took a little over three hours. The cogwheel train from Visp to Zermatt offers a unique scenic experience, completely different from the gentle beauty of Mount Rigi. The view is filled with majestic alpine valleys, creating a powerful visual impact. We arrived in Zermatt before 3 PM. Since the hotel check-in wasn’t ready, we first stored our luggage and went out for a stroll. The town was lively and bustling with tourists. The town center had set up a special viewing area for the World Cup. On the day of the final, the square was packed and full of energy at night. After wandering around the town, we booked tickets in advance for the cogwheel train to Gornergrat the next day to see the Matterhorn. Using the Swiss Travel Pass, the ticket cost 66 CHF per person. Then we went to Coop to buy groceries before returning to the hotel. We stayed in a suite with a kitchen, finally able to cook for ourselves and soothe our stomachs after days of eating out. The weather was especially pleasant that day. Zermatt’s climate was comfortable and sunny, making it easy to enjoy walking around without feeling tired. In the evening, we cooked a simple hot pot at the hotel, relaxing and cozy. At 8:30 PM, we headed to Murini Viewpoint to wait for the stunning blue hour of the Matterhorn. Navigation tip: just search for Murini viewpoint to navigate there. The walk to the viewpoint involves a bit of uphill climbing, taking about 20 to 30 minutes, which can be tiring. The viewpoint offers a wide, unobstructed view where Zermatt and the majestic Matterhorn appear together in a breathtaking scene. In Swiss summer, it gets dark very late—night falls around 10 PM here. We waited quietly and finally witnessed the enchanting blue hour: the town’s lights twinkled like stars, with the towering Matterhorn standing silently behind. The scene was breathtaking, making the uphill climb completely worthwhile. The wind is strong on the mountain viewpoint, so be sure to bring an extra jacket. It’s best to arrive early to secure a good spot for photos. The walk back down is all downhill, making it easy and effortless. Surrounded by the peaceful mountain night, we returned to our lodging and fell into a deep sleep, ending another perfect day.

A natural 22°C air-conditioned room, and right outside the door are snow-capped mountains, meadows, and lakes all in one stunning view💥 🚂 First, how to get into this "car-free town" Since 1961, Zermatt has banned all fuel-powered vehicles and only allows electric carts. If you drive, you must park at Täsch, which costs 17 CHF per day. Take a ticket when entering the lot and pay at the machine when leaving. Then take the shuttle train into town. It costs 8 CHF per person one way, runs every 12 minutes, and takes about 10 minutes. ⚠️ Important: If you have a Swiss Half Fare Card (adult monthly card 150 CHF in 2026), this shuttle train is half price! Driving from Geneva is about 200 km and 3 hours, passing Montreux and Château de Chillon, which are great stops along the way. However, there was some trouble when I left Bern station, so I was delayed by 10 minutes💦💦 I only had 6 minutes to transfer at Visp, so I hoped to make up for it, but it didn't work😇 I didn't need to rush, so I decided to just take the next train at Visp. On the train to Visp, there were many people who had to transfer, so I asked the attendant if we would make it in time, but he said, "You'll be fine!" lol. In the end, we didn't make it at all, and everyone took the next train 🤭 Then, the train from Visp to Zermatt was moving slowly and didn't move at all 😅 The journey from Bern to Zermatt takes 2 hours and 10 minutes In the end, it took a little over 3 hours 🤭 Troubles like this are inevitable when traveling 👍🏻 Although we were late, we arrived at Zermatt before sunset ⛰️ I was thinking of having dinner at the supermarket, so I went to the coop first 🛒 (the coop closes at 8pm) I bought dinner and checked into the hotel to put my luggage down ✅ After putting my luggage down, I headed to the Japanese Bridge, where I could get a good view of the Matterhorn!
