The Southern Hemisphere is currently heading into winter, which is actually the most comfortable time to visit Uluru. The sun is super bright during the day, but it gets a bit chilly in the mornings and evenings, resulting in a massive temperature drop. Accommodation options near Uluru are fairly limited and mostly on the pricey side. If you want to kick back and experience nature without blowing your budget, the Outback Lodge, where I stayed this time, is a highly recommended option. Outback Lodge operates like a youth hostel with a super down-to-earth vibe and a very international crowd. The property is located right next to parts of the resort. The biggest surprise is its massive outdoor communal area—complete with a large swimming pool, though it's probably best saved for the summer months~ Additionally, the lodge has several lookout points. Whether you're chasing the sunrise in the morning or catching the sunset in the evening, the colors reflecting off the giant red rock from different angles are absolutely mind-blowing—you can never have enough camera memory for this! From here, you can also take in the spectacular surrounding desert landscape, and it's an incredible spot for stargazing at night! 😍 Every evening, the space outside the communal area transforms into a DIY barbecue zone, though the BBQ does cost a little extra. Honestly, though, sitting outdoors, chilling with some steak, and listening to live music creates a wild, vibrant atmosphere that you just can't find in the city! As the name suggests, Fun Over Fifties was absolutely “brilliant.” From the accommodation, food, tours, guiding, to the wonderful people on the trip, everything was well-organized. The price covered everything except two meals and alcoholic beverages, with no other hidden costs. FOF even provided some extra treats like drinks and ice cream at various sites. When rain at Uluṟu forced the cancellation of the Sounds of Silence dinner, our exceptional tour hostess Annette arranged the “Wintjiri Wiru” experience as an alternative, ensuring we still had a great time. The rain also caused low clouds during our scheduled helicopter flights over Uluṟu and the Olges. Impressively, Annette managed to rebook our flight for the following day before our departure, and refunds were given to those who couldn’t reschedule due to earlier flights. While it was disappointing for some, weather is beyond control. We were fortunate to witness the outback in full bloom, a rare sight that typically occurs only every 10 years. Suzanne and I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in Australia’s history but wanting to avoid the hassle of driving. Just amazing

As part of a unique Aussie solo adventure, this trip was crammed in tight. BUT… what an amazing opportunity to see Uluru. Basing myself at The Lost Camel accommodation in Ayers Rock, I fell in love with the big open spaces, beautiful people, red dirt and quiet atmosphere. What a beautiful country.

This time, we'll be introducing Uluru in Australia 🇦🇺. Do you know Uluru? Uluru is one of the world's largest monoliths, located in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park in the Northern Territory, almost in the center of the Australian continent. It was once widely known as "Ayers Rock," but now, respecting its value as a sacred site for the Indigenous people, it is officially called Uluru! Uluru is a massive sandstone formation, approximately 348 meters high and 9.4 kilometers in circumference ✨. Its appearance has earned it the nickname "the navel of the earth" 😳. To get to Uluru, you can fly ✈️ or drive 🚗 from within Australia. However, driving takes over 20 hours, so flying is recommended! There's a free bus from the airport to hotels in the town! Uluru has one town, and there are about five hotels clustered there, so staying in one of those hotels is convenient. (I chose the cheapest hotel, but it was surprisingly comfortable ☺️) You can get to the main attraction, Uluru, by bus or car! Renting a car is expensive, so booking a bus is the cheapest and most efficient option 💰 If you're worried about speaking English, booking a tour is also a good idea! This region is surrounded by nature, so you can enjoy nature everywhere! This trip to Uluru lasted three days and two nights. I booked the hotel, The Lost Camel, through Trip.com, and then joined a sunset camel ride and a sunrise tour to see Uluru. The scenery was truly beautiful, and the starry sky at night was stunning. I was also lucky enough to see the Milky Way and shooting stars. These were all invaluable experiences.

Uluru & The Olgas 🏜️ Experience the legendary landscapes of Australia’s Red Centre with a visit to Uluru and the Olgas (Kata Tjuta)—two marvels rising from the desert, each with their own vibe. Uluru may be iconic, but the Olgas’ dramatic domes truly impress with their size and mystery! Start your adventure early to beat the heat and crowds at Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Walk the base of Uluru for those classic sunrise views, with the reddish hues shifting in the morning light—best photos are from the western side, especially at the Mala Walk lookout. Don’t just see Uluru from afar! Explore the cave paintings and waterholes dotted along the base. In the afternoon, head to Kata Tjuta (The Olgas)—the Valley of the Winds hike stands out for its panoramic vistas and wild rock formations. The shade and elevation here make it feel less harsh, plus you’ll get jaw-dropping, “insta-worthy” shots from the second lookout. Tips: The Olgas are not as flat as you’d expect—the trails go up and down, so sturdy shoes are a must! Bring plenty of water (minimum 1.5 liters per person), sunscreen, and a hat; there’s little shade. The park opens early, around 5:30 AM in peak months, and closes at sunset.
