To be honest, Lüliang isn’t very well known within Shanxi, but almost everyone who’s been there is captivated by the rugged Loess Plateau and the bold spirit of the Yellow River✨! There’s no over-commercialized tackiness, just the sunset at Qikou, the clouds over North Wudang, and streets full of spicy and sour bowl-shaped rice cakes. Just got back from the mountains, here’s a purely hand-crafted, AI-free guide with no ads, all solid info, community-compliant, ready to copy and use~ 💰 Budget reference (per person for 3 days 2 nights) Lüliang’s prices are quite reasonable for Shanxi, focusing on affordability. · Major transport: High-speed train from Taiyuan to Lüliang station takes about 1.5 hours, ticket around 50 yuan; flights to Dawu Airport or direct high-speed rail from other cities. · Accommodation: Chain/comfortable hotels in Lishi city area cost 150–250 yuan per night; cave house homestays in Qikou ancient town 180–260 yuan per night (window views of the Yellow River, full experience). · Admission tickets: Qikou ancient town is free (small attraction combo ticket about 50 yuan), North Wudang Mountain about 72 yuan, Pangquangou rafting about 158 yuan, Guashan about 51 yuan, other small attractions 20–30 yuan each, expect under 300 yuan total. · Food: Local snacks are super cheap, bowl-shaped rice cakes 8 yuan, spicy soup 15 yuan; main meals like oat noodles, stewed lamb 50–70 yuan per person, 100 yuan a day can eat very well. · Total: Budget travel 800–1,000 yuan, comfortable travel (including shared car rental) 1,200–1,500 yuan. Attractions are spread out, so self-driving or car rental (about 300 yuan per day) is recommended, reserve this budget. 🏞 Recommended attractions (tested and reliable) · Qikou ancient town: The first town on the winding Yellow River, much more authentic than Pingyao! Qing stone slab streets from Ming and Qing dynasties, Black Dragon Temple to watch the golden sunset over the Yellow River🌅, nearby Lijiashan village praised by Wu Guanzhong as the “Potala Palace on the Loess Plateau,” layers of cave houses with stunning light and shadow, a must-visit. · North Wudang Mountain: A northern Taoist holy site, with strange peaks and rocks somewhat like a smaller Mount Hua, 1,600 steps up make your legs shake but the sea of clouds at the top is worth crying for, ancient pines along the way with graceful shapes⛰️. · Pangquangou: The green lung of North China, summer average temperature just over 20°C, original forest hiking for fresh air, canyon rafting called “North China’s top rafting,” wet warning but super refreshing🌊. · Xinghua Village Fenjiu cultural area: A must for liquor lovers! The thousand-year-old liquor capital, visit the Fenjiu museum, explore underground wine cellars, the air is filled with the fragrance of fermenting grains, and you can taste the original brew (in moderation)🍶. · Guashan & Xuanzhong Temple: Guashan in Jiaocheng resembles the Bagua (eight trigrams), thousand-year-old cypress trees twist and turn; Xuanzhong Temple is the ancestral temple of the Pure Land sect, an ancient temple hidden deep in the mountains, so quiet only birdsong remains, perfect for meditation🙏. 🗺 Travel itinerary (3 days 2 nights Yellow River + famous mountains + liquor culture version) · Day 1 Yellow River ancient charm · Qikou sunset Morning arrival at Lüliang station → taxi/car rental straight to Lin County Qikou ancient town (1.5h) → stroll Ming and Qing old streets, Black Dragon Temple → after lunch hike or car rental to Lijiashan village for cave house light and shadow photos → evening return to ancient town dock to watch Yellow River sunset → overnight in cave house homestay listening to the waves. · Day 2 Taoist quest at Wudang · Xinghua liquor aroma Early departure from Yellow River → return to Fangshan North Wudang Mountain for uphill climb and blessing (3–4h) → after descending drive to Fenyang city → afternoon visit Xinghua Village Fenjiu cultural area for tasting and museum → stay in Fenyang or return to Lishi city for late-night snacks. · Day 3 Deep mountain green lung · relaxed return Morning hike in Pangquangou forest / summer rafting (clear cool water) → lunch at mountain foot with stewed native chicken → 2 PM return to Lüliang station or stop by Jiaocheng Guashan to see ancient cypress → return trip. 🍜 Food recommendations (Lüliang’s carb + meat universe) · Liulin bowl-shaped rice cakes: Lüliang’s top snack! Buckwheat steamed and cut into pieces, topped with garlic paste, chili oil, aged vinegar, chewy and spicy, great cold or hot, any old stall on the street won’t disappoint🥢. · Lan County potato feast: Potato lovers’ paradise! Mashed potato cake (soft and stretchy), Helengzi (steamed potato balls dipped in tomato sauce), crystal dumplings, 108 dishes made from coarse grains, soft, fragrant, and delicious🥔. · Lin County fried “evil” & big stew: Scary name but tasty! “Evil” is mashed potato mixed with starch steamed and fried, texture like konjac; big stew is potatoes, tofu, meat, and vermicelli stewed together, thick soup with fried dough cakes is very filling🍲. · Xing County spicy soup: Salty, numbing, sour, and spicy broth + lamb and carrot wontons + vermicelli, sprinkled with pepper powder, a bowl in the morning warms you to the core, paired with golden crispy pancakes🥣. · Zhongyang cypress-fed lamb: Lamb raised on cypress leaves, tender meat with almost no gamey taste, best salt-fried or clear stewed, the fat is irresistibly fragrant🐑. · Yellow rice oil cake & Xiaoyi baked flatbread: Oil cake is crispy outside, sticky inside with brown sugar, hot but you won’t want to spit it out; baked flatbread is crispy outside, layered inside, with brown sugar sesame or meat filling, a local breakfast staple🍘. 💡 Viral-level rambling (pitfall warnings) · Lüliang attractions are extremely spread out (Qikou, North Wudang, Pangquangou are in different counties), without self-driving or car rental you can’t get around, public transport is very limited and time-consuming, don’t force public transit😂. · Qikou ancient town main street is free, don’t believe the touts saying you must buy combo tickets, Lijiashan village ticket is about 15 yuan separately, compare several cave houses in the ancient town before booking, some are old so be prepared. · North Wudang Mountain stairs are steep and many, cable car for those with knee issues (one way 35 yuan), it’s windy at the top so bring a light windbreaker even in July and August, don’t just care about style; Pangquangou rafting is packed in summer, book tickets in advance, bring a change of clothes and waterproof bag. · Local flavors tend to be sour, spicy, salty, and oily, if you can’t handle strong tastes ask for less salt and vinegar, the chili oil on bowl-shaped rice cakes is very strong, start with mild spice🌶️.

🛏【️Hotel Guide】 📍Detailed address: "Secluded Village·Peach and Plum Fragrance Country Resort" in Zhongyang County, Luliang City, Shanxi Province 🚉Transportation Guide: The navigation shows 3 hours of driving from Taiyuan, but it is actually only 200 kilometers. Because it is at the top of the mountain, there are many winding mountain roads. You can also contact the B&B in advance to pick you up at the railway station and high-speed railway station. 🛏Room facilities: We stayed in Courtyard No. 8 (Figure 3). There are seven courtyards in total, each with a local name. Ours is called Gailiangliang. All the rooms are in the unique cave-dwelling style. (Figure 4-11) Every room, including the living room, has this kind of large floor-to-ceiling window. The bed was very comfortable, I checked and found out it was the same brand as Hilton. The toiletries are also very easy to use and leave you feeling refreshed after use. In addition to regular supplies, the homestay also thoughtfully prepared flashlights and electric mosquito coils. Our rooms are 8101 and 8102, and the speakers in the living room are Harman Kardon‼ ️ 🍲Recommended dishes: The main dishes here are Shanxi cuisine and local specialties, as well as Sichuan cuisine. After all, it is backed by a big brand "Hidden in the Countryside", so the dishes taste very good and the portions are generous! ! I originally thought that breakfast was a buffet, but when I got there I found out that it was served per seat, and the local specialties such as red date juice, sweet potato corn, steamed corn bread, etc. were also provided to keep you full. 🖼Restaurant environment: This must be praised! (After all, we came here for the environment) There are 7 courtyards here, and we specially visited other courtyards. Every courtyard is so comfortable. The restaurant and lobby are together, and the environment is very comfortable. It feels like you can stay here for a whole day. Not only is it full of art, but it is also very pleasant to drink coffee and read a book here. There is also a special play area for children, as well as a rooftop terrace. If you are lucky, you can watch the sunset from the restaurant! 🌟Highlights: Tao Li Fen Fang Countryside Resort is located on the Loess Plateau. It combines cave dwellings with gardens. It is definitely a paradise. Part of the resort is still under construction. Although you have to drive along a mountain road, after moving in, you will find that this place is really worth it and is a refuge from city life. Just like what is said in the introduction of the homestay, all beautiful things need someone to realize them with the impulse of spring thunder. A good countryside is not calculated, but created by those who do not care about the cost. Look at so many flowers that bloomed on impulse. No one bargained with spring. - Secluded Countryside·Peach and Plum Fragrance Countryside Resort

720 pages 89 million words 150 photographers 361 images ...... From a broad geographical perspective From a grand time scale From a unique cultural perspective Interpret the different stories of Shanxi This is the first collection-level human geography work of Shanxi completed by cultural tourism scholar Jiang Jianbo and the Secret Room team over 4 years. 1200 years ago, Shanxi people Liu Zongyuan and Wu Zijiao talked about Shanxi's local customs, and later wrote 'Jin Wen', in a question and answer format, making the mountains and rivers, gold and iron, famous horses, good materials, river fishing, pool salt and other landscapes of Jin, as well as the hegemony of Jin Wengong, vividly on paper, giving the most comprehensive explanation of Shanxi's geography and humanities. 1200 years later, today, imitating the subtleties of the ancients on the Luliang Mountain, ask why Jin is today? On the occasion of the 2574th anniversary of Confucius's birth, the first collection-level human geography masterpiece 'Shanxi on the Earth' completed by Jiang Jianbo, a master's tutor at Shanxi University of Finance and Economics, was first published; on the same day, the former people's teacher and principal Chen Fuping invested in the construction of the Peach and Plum Fragrance Rural Resort in Yangpo Village, Zaolin Township, Zhongyang, Luliang, his hometown, officially started trial operation. Cross the ancient and modern times to gather on the Luliang Mountain to chat about Shanxi and the past and present life of Shanxi people. Some people say that 'Chinese history looks at Shenzhen in ten years, Shanghai in a hundred years, Beijing in a thousand years, Shaanxi in three thousand years, and Shanxi in five thousand years.' On the map of Shanxi, the vast and star-like historical remains almost construct the complete context of the continuation of Chinese civilization. Why was Shanxi born under the reflection of the stars? Why stand? Why is it so dazzling and so low-key? What kind of people are Shanxi people? How should Shanxi people stand in the present and face the future? Teacher Jiang's 'Shanxi on the Earth' gave the answers one by one. In ancient times, Liu Zongyuan asked about the ideal lifestyle, and now the Peach and Plum Fragrance Rural Resort is launched, dedicated to creating a beautiful modern version of 'Peach Blossom Source'. The world is a capital person; the countryside is the ultimate destination for all of us. Return to the soil, return to the fields, return to the poetic countryside, return to the spiritual homeland in the heart! Where the mountains and rivers are inside and outside, the old friends of the mountains and rivers come! In this dialogue spanning a thousand years, ask people, ask mountains and rivers, ask development, and find the answer to 'how to live in the present'. Through Teacher Jiang's 'Shanxi on the Earth', I found the answer to the mountains and rivers inside and outside; in Teacher Chen and Changchun's Peach and Plum Fragrance, I found the answer to coexistence, wealth, and joy.
