Pay homage to Luang Pho Saen and Luang Pho Thongkham at Wat Hong Rattanaram.

🙏 Wat Hong Rattanaram Ratchaworawihan is a temple from the Ayutthaya period, originally named Wat Chao Sua Hong after the wealthy Chinese merchant who built it. 🏰 Later, King Taksin the Great ordered its restoration and expansion. During the reign of King Rama III, the temple was renamed Wat Hong Rattanaram. Attractions within the temple include: 🏰 The ordination hall (ubosot) features intricately carved wooden doors and windows depicting swans perched on branches. The door and window frames are adorned with stucco designs, showcasing a blend of Thai and Chinese art. Inside, the principal Buddha image sits on a jeweled throne, flanked by two chief disciples. There is also Luang Pho Saen, a bronze Buddha image in the Chiang Saen style. 🏰 The ubosot columns are decorated with floral patterns, and the walls feature murals depicting the Ten Jataka tales and the legend of the Emerald Buddha, painted by artists from the reigns of King Rama III and IV. There are 57 framed paintings, unique to this temple in Thailand. 🏰 The vihara (assembly hall) is positioned perpendicular to the ubosot and has a similarly beautiful gable. The entrance is on the long side of the vihara, which houses several Buddha images, including the significant Luang Pho Suk or Luang Pho Thongkham, a Sukhothai-style Buddha image. 🏚 The scripture hall (ho trai) is a wooden building with lacquered and gilded designs. The wooden doors are intricately carved with vine patterns, crafted by artisans from the Rattanakosin period. The hall also contains beautifully carved scripture cabinets. 🏚 The shrine of King Taksin the Great commemorates his restoration of the temple. ⛲ The holy water pond: King Taksin invited a revered monk from Ayutthaya to inscribe sacred characters on a stone slab, which was then placed under the pond. Before going to war, King Taksin would bathe in the holy water and cleanse his weapons.
