🏕 Wat Buppharam Worawihan, a third-class royal temple, is an ancient temple built during the Ayutthaya period. It was originally named Wat Dok Mai, and the founder is unknown. Later, it became an abandoned temple. 🏰 During the reign of King Rama III, Lady Chan, the principal wife of Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Prayurawong (Dit Bunnag), restored the temple. 🏰 In 1848, Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Srisuriyawong and Chao Phraya Thipakornwong renovated the temple with the support of King Rama IV, who renamed it Wat Buppharam. 🏰 During this renovation, the ordination hall, vihara, sermon hall, monk's quarters, and temple walls were constructed. 🏤 During World War II in 1944, the temple was bombed, causing damage to various structures except for the vihara, which remains intact to this day. The damaged structures were later rebuilt. 🏰 The ordination hall features a gable with the emblem of a lion pulling a chariot, the personal emblem of Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Srisuriyawong. It also depicts five Buddhas with a background adorned with colored glass. 🏢 The door and window arches are designed in the shape of the Great Victory Crown, a symbol of King Rama IV's reign. 🙏 Inside, the principal Buddha image, Phra Phuttha Woranat, in the Mara Vichai posture, is enshrined. The lower base features statues of the chief disciples, cast in metal and gilded. 🏰 The vihara showcases a blend of Thai and Chinese architecture, a royal preference during King Rama III's reign. It features the emblem of a lion pulling a chariot at the center. Inside, the principal Buddha image, Luang Pho Buppha, in the Mara Vichai posture, similar to Phra Phuttha Chinnarat, is enshrined. 🏚 The Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Srisuriyawong Pavilion is a Thai-style sermon hall with a gable featuring the Western-style Maha Suriyamon emblem.
