Paying homage to Phra Siddhartha at Wat Phichai Yat

🛖Wat Phichai Yat Worawihan, a second-class royal monastery, was originally an abandoned temple. It was restored in 1841 by Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Phichaiyat (That Bunnag). 🏰He was a wealthy merchant who traded with foreign countries and bought most of the construction materials from China. Therefore, the permanent structures built here are of Chinese architectural style. King Rama III named the temple Wat Phra Ya Yat. 🙏Later, King Rama IV renamed it Wat Phichai Yat. Key features within the temple include: 🏰The ordination hall, a reinforced concrete building with doors and windows painted with gold leaf designs of Xieogang stepping on a lion. The central door features a gold leaf design of an angel holding a sword stepping on a lion. 🙏The principal Buddha image is Phra Siddhartha, a gilded Buddha in the Mara Vichai posture from the Sukhothai period, brought from Wat Wihan Thong in Phitsanulok. 🙏Phra Worawinayok or Luang Pho Dam, a Buddha image in meditation posture, is enshrined in front of the principal Buddha image. 🛕The stupa is a round stupa with a square base. 🛕There are three prangs (Khmer-style towers). The large one was built during the reign of King Rama III and enshrines four Buddha images. The two smaller prangs enshrine Phra Sri Ariya Mettrai and four replicas of the Buddha's footprints. 🏤The kuti (monk's residence) is in European architectural style.
