The Four Important Buddha Statues at Wat Sawetachat Worawihan

🏡Wat Sawetachat Worawihan, a third-class royal temple, was originally named Wat Bang Lam Phu Lang and is believed to have been built during the Ayutthaya period. 🏢The temple fell into disrepair and was later extensively renovated by Prince Surindra Raks, a son of King Rama I and the founder of the Chatkul royal lineage. He ordered the dismantling of his personal residence to create permanent structures for the temple. 🏰Further renovations were carried out during the reigns of King Rama III and King Rama IV, who later renamed the temple Wat Sawetachat. 🏰The current ordination hall is a brick and mortar building in Chinese artistic style, popular during the reign of King Rama III. Inside, it houses the Buddha statues Phra Phuttha Angkirasamuni Narathurak Asan Ampha, in the Naga Prok posture, and Phra Phuttha Marawichai Apai Parapak Akravibul, in the Maravichai posture, both in Sukhothai art style. 🙏Near the Chao Phraya River, the temple grounds feature the reclining Buddha statue Phra Phuttha Bandhumun Pradit Sathit Saiyas, in early Rattanakosin art style, built around 1821. 🏝In the past, the statue was submerged during floods.
