Beihai Old Street

Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Beihai City Street Beihai Old Street - Zhuhai Road is an old street with a history of nearly two hundred years, established in 1821. Originally named Shengping Street, it was only 200 meters long and 4 meters wide. With continuous development through various historical periods, it has now become a commercial old street with a length of 1.44 kilometers and a width of 9 meters, lined with Sino-Western arcade-style buildings. Most of these buildings are two to three stories high, mainly influenced by the Western columnar-style architecture of the consulates built by countries such as Britain, France, and Germany in our city at the end of the 19th century. The window tops on both sides of the street are mostly arch structures, with decorative lines on the arch edges and the tops of the window columns, featuring smooth lines and exquisite craftsmanship. Different styles of decorations and reliefs on the street-facing walls form two sets of aerial sculpture galleries, north and south. The arcade part of these buildings, which faces the street, not only extends the road to both sides but also extends the shop fronts outward. People walking under the arcades are sheltered from wind and rain and can also avoid the scorching sun; the square columns of the arcades are thick and heavy, with a style reminiscent of ancient Roman architecture.
