The cone is a basalt-capped volcanic hill, ~25–35 minutes up a loose scree slope from the 4×4 drop point. I wore trail runners and regretted it—the dark basalt holds heat and the scree slides; approach shoes or stiff-soled boots are better. From the top you see the whole Bahariya palm carpet to the north and the black cone field rolling south—panoramic in a way the White Desert never gives you. The Black Desert itself is free to enter as part of a licensed safari (no separate ticket, but your Bahariya-based operator pays the zone permit ~part of the $150–$250 package). El-Heiz hot spring, 20 minutes north, is a 32°C mineral pool fed by a pipe into a concrete basin—locals soak there; I dipped for 10 minutes and it fixed my lower back after the climb.
