Address: In the middle of Qingfeng Gorge on the east side of Yuelu Mountain, Changsha, Hunan. It was built in the 57th year of the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty (1792) by Luo Dian, the head of Yuelu Academy in the Qing Dynasty. It was named after the poem by Du Mu, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, "Stop the car and sit in the maple forest in the evening, the frost leaves are red in February." One of the four famous pavilions in China. From 1913 to 1918, Mao Zedong, Cai Hesen and others often gathered here to read and discuss revolutionary truths. It was destroyed during the Anti-Japanese War and was rebuilt in 1952 and overhauled in 1987. When it was rebuilt, Mao Zedong wrote the three characters "Aiwan Pavilion". The pavilion has a double eave roof, a spire, and four corners. It is covered with green glazed tiles. There is a plaque in the pavilion with Mao Zedong's handwriting "Qinyuan Spring·Changsha". The pavilion is simple and elegant, surrounded by green mountains and green leaves. It's a pity that I came early, otherwise it might be more beautiful in the red leaves. To the north of Aiwan Pavilion, at the south end of Qingfeng Bridge, there is a hexagonal thatched pavilion, which is naturally quiet, surrounded by greenery, and beautiful like a painting. In the middle of the pavilion is a "Release Crane" stone carving, which records the restoration of Aiwan Pavilion by Mr. Qiu Cheng Songwan in the third year of Xuantong (1911). The "Luo Honglu" in the inscription is Luo Dian, the builder of Aiwan Pavilion. During the Qianlong period, Luo Dian taught at Yuelu Academy. On his days off, he planted flowers and tamed cranes here to cultivate his temperament. Therefore, Cheng Songwan, the supervisor of Yuelu Academy in the late Qing Dynasty, wrote "Release Crane". The back of the stone carving is engraved with "Ernan Poetry", "Ernan" refers to Zhang Nanxuan (Zhang Shi), the principal of Yuelu Academy in the Southern Song Dynasty, and Qian Nanyuan, the governor of Hunan in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. The two poems are seven-character poems by the two adults. From Aiwan Pavilion, go down the mountain along Denggao Road. After exiting the south gate of Yuelu Mountain, there is a snack street. Affordable and delicious. There are sugar and oil glutinous rice cakes, stinky tofu, big sausages, etc., each bite is full of happiness. Eating and walking down the mountain, you can see the "Red Building" of Hunan University, which is simple and elegant, solemn and atmospheric, standing next to Dongfanghong Square. Because of its elegant brick red, the teachers and students of the university affectionately call her "Red Building". Now it is the most important landmark building of the school and a popular check-in spot for internet celebrities.
