Wuhou Shrine in Chengdu

Wuhou Shrine originally referred to the temple dedicated to Zhuge Liang next to the tomb of Liu Bei, Hui Ling. After continuous renovations and integrations during the Ming and Qing dynasties, it eventually became an architectural complex consisting of four parts: Han Zhao Lie Temple, Wuhou Shrine, Hui Ling, and Sanyi Temple. It is under the jurisdiction of the Wuhou Shrine Museum in Chengdu and is a cultural heritage conservation area. This marks the first time in history that the cultural relics of the Three Kingdoms in Chengdu were integrated. Wuhou Shrine is located at No. 231, Wuhou Shrine Street, Wuhou District, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. It was founded in the first year of Zhangwu of the Shu Han dynasty (221 AD) and covers an area of 150,000 square meters. It serves as a testament to the people's affirmation and praise of the spirit of Zhuge Liang, the Prime Minister of Shu Han, who was 'devoted to the point of exhaustion, only resting upon death,' and belongs to the cultural heritage conservation area of the Chengdu Wuhou Shrine Museum. Historical records state: 'In the third year of Zhangwu (223 AD), the first lord passed away in Yong'an Palace... In May, the wooden palace was returned to Chengdu from Yong'an, and he was posthumously named Emperor Zhaolie. In autumn, in August, he was buried in Hui Ling.' According to Han customs, outside the ancestral temple, there was the original temple, namely Han Zhao Lie Temple. Twenty-nine years after Zhuge Liang's death, the later lord, on the advice of his ministers, 'in the spring of the sixth year of Jingyao, decreed to build a temple for Liang in Mianyang.' Mianyang, which is now Mian County, indicates that during the Three Kingdoms period, the worship of Liu Bei's tomb and Zhuge Liang's temple were in Chengdu and Shaanxi, respectively.
