Meditate in Peace at Wat Umong Maha Therachan

Wat Umong Maha Therachan An ancient meditation temple in Chiang Mai Originally known as Wat Pho Noi, Wat Maha Chan, Wat Umong Ariyamonthon, or Wat Maha Ploy Sarinai Klang Wiang, the temple's name does not appear directly in documents but is mentioned in relation to Wat Umong outside the city and briefly about Wat Umong within the city. The naming convention for the tunnels is as follows: if the tunnel is within the city, it is called Umong Ariyamonthon; if outside the city, it is called Umong Therachan. However, there has been confusion over time, leading to the current practice of calling the city tunnel Umong Therachan and the one outside the city Umong Suan Phutthatham. Inside the ordination hall, the principal Buddha image is Phra Phuttha Chiang Saen Singha I, also known as Luang Pho Somjai Nuek. Created around 1839-1840 AD, this seated Buddha in the Maravijaya posture is made of metal mixed with plaster and adorned with a lotus bud-shaped topknot, lacquered and gilded.
