Exploring the Beautiful Scenery—Nam Co The lake closest to heaven, it is one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet. Most people only visit the southern shore of Nam Co, but actually, there is a Holy Elephant Gate on the northern shore, which is the sacred place of the entire Nam Co. ⛳️If you just want to go to Nam Co, it is 200 kilometers away from Lhasa to reach the entrance of the scenic area. If you want to go to the Holy Elephant Gate, you need to travel an extra 150 kilometers, mainly because the last 50 kilometers to the Holy Elephant Gate are dirt roads and very difficult to navigate. 🏨There are basically no accommodations in Nam Co, you can stay in Damxung County. If you want to go to the Holy Elephant Gate, there are Mongolian yurts available, but the conditions are very poor with large communal sleeping areas. If you have an RV, driving in and camping is also a good choice. 🍽There is not much to eat in the scenic area, so you need to bring your own dry food. It is recommended to have lunch in Damxung before entering when departing from Lhasa. 📸Nam Co is very suitable for aerial photography. The changing light and shadows complement the snow-capped mountains, and you can use a drone to take a show-off photo at the Holy Elephant Gate.
