The Dongying Red Beach Wetland is an ecological wonder

Located at the mouth of the Yellow River where it embraces the sea, the Red Beach Wetland is not only a spectacular sight of the river meeting the ocean but also forms a soft, fertile, and elastic muddy beach. Covering this mudflat is a unique herbaceous plant, the seepweed, which turns the tidal flats at the mouth of the Yellow River into a 'red carpet', where numerous birds linger and nest. To protect the newly formed wetland ecosystem of the delta and the resources of rare and endangered bird species, in October 1992, the State Council approved the establishment of the Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve, with wetland restoration as a top priority. Over the past thirty years, through a series of measures such as returning farmland to wetlands, retiring aquaculture for beach recovery, and ecological water replenishment, the vitality of the great river's delta has been reawakened. More and more bird species are 'settling down' in the Yellow River Delta, and Dongying has become known as the 'Hometown of the Oriental White Stork' and the 'Hometown of the Black-headed Gull' in China.
