People from Guangzhou have a special sentiment for 'Shamian'

Shamian, once known as Shicuizhou, is named for being a sandbank formed by the alluvial deposits of the Pearl River, covering an area of 0.3 square kilometers. Shamian is an important commercial port in Guangzhou. After a century of development, more than ten countries have set up consulates on Shamian, with nine foreign banks and over forty foreign firms operating there.
