Lesser-known spots around Dali, the azaleas on Jianchuan Maxiang Highway are in full bloom!

There are many hidden gems around Dali, and I particularly love exploring these off-the-beaten-path locations, enjoying the pleasure of reverse tourism. In April, the Jianchuan Maxiang Highway is in the season when the azaleas bloom. The mountains are covered with clusters of pink, purple, and white flowers, which are breathtakingly beautiful and stretch over several hills. Compared to the sparse and scattered fiery red azaleas in Yangbi, the azaleas here are even more beautiful. Moreover, there is the rare sight of snow-capped mountains, which if missed, you would have to wait another year! Location and navigation: Jianchuan County, from Madeng Town on Maxiang Highway to Diansuo Village to three kilometers later, follow the road signs towards Xiangtu direction - Maxiang Highway flower viewing spot, drive to the top of the mountain to the windmill location. It is 166 kilometers from Dali, about a 3-hour drive. Precautions: 1. April to May is the best time to view the high mountain azaleas, and you can check the local real-time information for specifics. 2. The hiking location is at an altitude of about 3400 meters, with a gentle slope, suitable for beginners. However, it is windy, so be sure to keep warm to prevent cold, and if there is a possibility of altitude sickness, be prepared in advance. 3. Some sections of the Maxiang Highway are in poor condition, so drive carefully. 4. You should go up the mountain early to avoid the peak tourist times, to prevent congestion and parking difficulties when coming down the mountain.
