Yunnan Jianshui Confucius Temple Pan Pond

Pan Pond is a common water feature in ancient Confucius Temple architecture, usually located in front of the main gate of the Confucius Temple, symbolizing the boundless sea of learning and the Confucian concept of "enjoying water." Pan Pond is not only a landscape but also has important cultural significance. According to historical records, during the imperial examination era, scholars would visit the Confucius Temple to pay homage to Confucius after enrolling in school, passing the imperial examination, or becoming a successful candidate. They would walk around the Pan Pond, a ritual known as "You Pan," which was considered an honorable ceremony. The Pan Pond at Jianshui Confucius Temple is large and is a landmark of the temple, known for its unique oval design. Covering an area of about 45 acres, it is one of the largest Pan Ponds among Confucius Temples in China. The water in the Pan Pond is crystal clear, reflecting the surrounding buildings, creating a picturesque scene.
