Jilin: What's so great about snow? Rime is just as beautiful! (Part 2) Wusong Island, the best place to see rime in Jilin, is located in the middle of the Songhua River. It has been developed into a scenic area with an entrance fee. In addition to admiring the rime, visitors can also enjoy folk performances such as yangko dance, Eight Banners parade, shamanism, and falconry, as well as snow and ice entertainment activities. Zengtong Island, to the west of Wusong Island, is larger and inhabited by local villagers. In winter, the river freezes over, connecting the two islands. However, visitors have more options for food and accommodation on the east bank of the river in Hantun. In addition to Wusong Island, other places to see rime in Jilin City include both banks of the Songhua River in the city, Changbai Island, Beidahu Ski Resort, Ashi Rime Corridor, and Huadian Hongshi Park. Rime is not exclusive to Jilin. There are also rime wonders of different scales in Jagdaqi, Heilongjiang, the Kurbin River Basin in Yichun City, and the edge of the Taklamakan Desert in Aral City, Xinjiang. Rime in Jilin occurs from December to February of the following year, with the highest probability of occurrence in January when the temperature is lowest. The best time to see rime is from around 7 am before sunrise to around 10 am, and around 3:30 pm at sunset is also a good time to take photos. The time and place of rime are highly uncertain, so be prepared to "move" at any time. A trick is to follow the photographers with tripods, and you will most likely find a suitable place to see rime.
