Kaifeng Daxiangguo Temple

Daxiangguo Temple was first built in the sixth year of the Tianbao period of the Northern Qi Dynasty. During the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Ruizong of Tang bestowed the name Daxiangguo Temple. It has undergone construction and renovation through the Song, Ming, Qing, and Republic of China periods, making it a historically renowned temple. The Mahavira Hall was built during the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty and is praised as the 'First Hall of Central Plains.' Inside the Mahavira Hall, the Three Buddhas—Shakyamuni, Amitabha, and Bhaisajyaguru—are enshrined. The eighteen Arhats are enshrined on the platform bases on the east and west walls. Behind the Three Buddhas is a 'large sculpture of Guanyin on the Sea Island.' The 'Hall of Five Hundred Arhats' houses a statue of the Thousand-Handed and Thousand-Eyed Guanyin Bodhisattva, commonly known as the 'Thousand-Handed and Thousand-Eyed Buddha.' This is one of the thirty-two manifestations of Guanyin Bodhisattva and is considered a treasure of Daxiangguo Temple.
