Visiting the Fushimi Inari Shrine

#japantrip Fushimi Inari Shrine is considered one of the most important shrine in Japan, dedicated to the God of Rice taking the body of a fox as a messenger, an important figure people worship for the sake of good harvest. The culture of worshipping the Inari can be pre-dated to Year 794 in Kyoto. One of the notable feature of the shrine is the Vermillion Torii Gate at the entrance donated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in year 1589, leasing to the main hall. At the back of the shrine lies a row of smaller torii called senbon torii which means thousands of torii gates, intersecting 2 roads leading to the summit. They were also featured in "The Memoirs of Geisha" movie where little Chiyo was running along the torii during her rest days.
