Almost every year I have chance to visit the plain of Castelluccio di Norcia, a truly magical place located between the regions of Umbria and Marche, in the Sibillini Mountains, Italy. Every July the plain is the stage of an incredible flowering (the "fioritura") of lentils, poppers, daisies, bluebottles, and other flowers. The result is a huge show of colors that draws thousands of people from around Italy and more. Horses and sheep are also a common sight in the plain. In many ways, this place looks so unreal that you wouldn't think it really exists. The area was hit by a major earthquake in 2016 and the village of Castelluccio has been mostly wiped off, but the fascination of this place remains intact and worth of preservation. #italy #umbria #italytravel #italybeauties #travel #amazingplacetobe #awesomepic

Sitting on top of a big butte of volcanic tuff, Orvieto retains large signs of its Etrurian past, so much so that the first thing that stood out to me was the light brown tones across its alleys and its roads. The Duomo cathedral is the main attraction. The church was built in the 14th century and is dedicated to the Ascending of the Virgin Mary. Aesthetically it might remind you of the more famous Cathedral of Siena, obviously because of its roman-gothic style! This one in Orvieto is one of the most significant in Italy. Don’t miss a visit to another landmark of note, like Torre del Moro for a sunset view of the town and the surrounding hills, Pozzo di San Patrizio and Fortezza Albornoz! Since we are in Umbria, food plays a unique role. Local cuisine is highly appreciated thanks to its cured meats and other traditional dishes. If you’re planning a road trip across Italy, don’t miss this part of the country for its authenticity. #italy #italytravel #italybeauties #umbria #orvieto #awesomepic #travel #town #oldtown

While it may look cliché especially now in the age of social media, the allure of a place like Burano is something too hard to resist. Separated from the rest of the main Venetian lagoon, this cute village is an hour ferryboat ride away from San Marco’s square, and a must stop for anyone visited the Serenissima. Don’t be afraid to explore the many alleys, full of silence and out to dry laundry (so typically Italian!). You'll be shocked by how quickly your camera will fill up with photos! Every door, every facade will look like a postcard! Walk down the colourful canals and pop into one of the many cafes for a cappuccino and a tasty brioche. All while experiencing fewer crowds and noise than Venice. Before leaving, don’t forget to reserve a table in places like Rivarosa, revering the uniqueness of this small touristy, yet residential neighbourhood. You’ll definitely want to visit again. #italy #italytravel #italybeauties #awesomepic #burano #venice #travel

Sitting on a plateau of friable volcanic tuff, Civita di Bagnoregio is frequently named “The Dying Town” because of the incessant erosion, so there’s only a handful of citizens here. The view from Bagnoregio is as impressive as you might expect. Photos don’t make justice to this gem, and a visit should be on every serious traveler of Italy. Accessing to the beautiful historic centre is made possibile only by a foot bridge, every other road is just non-existent. Inside the hamlet ou can spot lots of details from its Etruscan past and the while place is very well preserved despite a recent revival in tourism that constantly brings crowds from all over the world, and sometimes this makes local residents a little nervous when their privacy is broken. Tip: Book a night in one of the several bed and breakfasts for a very romantic trip! #italy #italytravel #italybeauties #lazio #travel #civitadibagnoregio #awesomepic

Just an hour south of Siena, you'll find this area that might resemble one you've seen in movies like The Gladiator, The English Patient, or Romeo & Juliet. Know as Val d’Orcia, this valley is dense with long, perfect cypress trees roads, and postcard-ish houses on top of too-beautiful-to-be-true hills. Tip: For an amazing stay, book at Podere Terrapille in Pienza! Pienza is probably the most known town here, a lovely medieval center that oversees the whole area and awards you with unforgettable panoramas and memories. The local culinary experience is rich and super yummy. You'll get used to prelacies like cinta senese, pecorino toscano, pici (a type of pasta) or lampredotto. You'll have a hard time picking a restaurant where tasting the genuine Tuscan cuisine, the choice is so vast! Also, where to sleep? Bed and breakfasts and “poderi” are everywhere, most of them are gifted by enchanted views of the surrounding hills. Consider a visit to the close villages of Montepulciano, Bagno Vignoni and San Quirico d’Orcia, as long as insanely beautiful places like Cappella di Vitaleta. A week here will make you feel rejuvenated! #tuscany #italy #italia #travel #valdorcia #awesome #ancienttowns #italytravel #italybeauties #awesomepic

As part of a larger tour I made across Puglia a couple years ago, I had to stop by Ostuni. Ostuni is a unique town that resembles a bright cap rising up right from the flat plains near the southern coast of Italy. Its whitewashed defensive walls and houses in the old town with many winding streets, steps and beautifully decorated, colorful window frames can make you think you're somewhere in Greece. Also known as “The White City”, because of the white lime tones of its historic center, Ostuni stands on a 600-feet hill overlooking the nearby Adriatic coastline and I must say that Mediterranean vibes ooze from every corner and every alley. You could definitely spend an entire morning or afternoon wandering around and cherishing the slow life of Apulian people, making pasta or putting laundry out to dry. Details of its ancient past, baroque and medieval, can be found everywhere across the city in churches and old palaces. Night life is vibrant with tons of places where you can eat, enjoy a gelato or sip a cocktail. #italy #puglia #apulia #roadtrip #italytravel #italybeauties #mediterranean #awesomepic

The regions of Sardinia or Sicily boast amazing beaches and shores with crystalline waters, but there are areas way off the beaten path where you can enjoy a diverse and more affordable summer. Taking its name from Monte Conero, a 572-meter promontory overlooking the Adriatic Sea, Riviera del Conero is something you wouldn’t expect to see in Central Italy. Blue waters (Spiaggia delle Due Sorelle, Spiaggia della Vela, and Spiaggia di San Michele are the best ones) and colourful villages (Numana and Sirolo) are the defining traits of this part of Italy that elude the reputation of more famous and clichéd location in the Belpaese. Spend the day at the beaches, all surrounded by wild vegetation and thick pine woods, then at dinner treat yourself with tasty and gourmet fish recipes in Numana at Ristorante La Torre, ending with a great gelato at Bar Centrale in Sirolo while strolling through its cute and quiet alleys. #italy #italytravel #italybeauties #awesomepic #couplestrip #rivieradelconero #marche

Much can be said about Cinque Terre, probably one of Italy’s most famous landmarks and part of the Unesco World’s Heritage list. As the name says, Cinque Terre consist of five villages: coming from West you got Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Hallmark to all these villages of fishermen are their colourful houses latched on cliffs that make for incredible sights you’ll never see anywhere else. One of the most valuable things here is the ability to visit all these villages thanks to a few paths and hiking trails, so you could actually walk from Monterosso, the westernmost villages to Riomaggiore, the easternmost one, and back! Nowadays the area is always packed, so plan accordingly and try to avoid car as a means of transportation, parking lots are scarce and expensive and traffic can discourage even the bravest driver! Since every village, except Corniglia, is well connected, you should take the train into consideration: fares are cheap and rides are very short (about 5 mins each). #italy #liguria #cinqueterre #awesomepic #couplestrip #italytravel #italybeauties #seaside #town

Puglia (Apulia in English) holds a special place in my heart. White is the dominant tone here, and you’ll find yourself in a constant summer mood all year long. Like most of Italy, you’ll see that there’s no shortage of Unesco sites here, and Alberobello is one of them. This town is famous for its “trulli”, ancient round houses made of stone with a conical roof. While you can find them everywhere driving in the countryside amid seas of olive trees, the ones in Alberobello are the most famous and colourful ones. Walking throughout the village you’ll find small shops with handcrafted products and souvenirs, plus delicious local products like “tarallucci”, “orecchiette”, and olive oil (probably the best olive oil you’ll ever taste in your life, as Puglia is home to more than a billion olive trees!). It’s been touristy nowadays so the place tends to be a little bit crowded, but you can’t really miss a stop here. #italy #italytravel #italybeauties #alberobello #travelinspiration #ancienttowns #awesomepic #puglia #travellist

The first sight of Camogli will leave you speechless, and the town cannot not leave a lasting impression on everyone. Over the last few years this colorful seaside town has gained a lot of attention beyond the usual suspects like Manarola, Vernazza, Riomaggiore, best known as Cinque Terre. The town itself lies on a small bay with incredibly blue waters. A huge wall of colourful houses (something very typical in Liguria) stands over the black pebble beach. One of the best things to do in Camogli is to walk around the small marina and alleys, while tasting a slice of its signature focaccia, a delicious flatbread seasoned with olive oil and melted cheese. Or, perhaps, sit at one of the many cute restaurants for some trofie al pesto (a short and twisted pasta traditionally served with pesto) and a bottle of white wine. #camogli #liguria #italy #italytravel #italybeauties #awesomepic #beautifulpics #awesomepic
