Lake Placid Olympic Village Lakes in the Eastern United States

1. Lake Placid (l ) also known as Mirror Lake, is a village in the Adirondack Mountains of Essex County, New York, USA. The village of Lake Placid is near the center of North Elba, 40 miles southwest of the city of Plattsburgh. Lake Placid, together with the nearby Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake, forms the so-called Tri-Lakes region. 2. Lake Placid is famous for hosting the 1932 Winter Olympics and the 1980 Winter Olympics. However, Americans remember this small village for the ice hockey match between the United States and the Soviet Union held here in 1980, later known as the Miracle on Ice. A group of American college students and amateur players defeated the heavily favored Soviet national ice hockey team 4-3 and won the Olympic gold medal two days later. This victory is often listed as one of the greatest in American sports history. 3. With its natural scenery, people who go on deep tours of eastern New York State can drive there themselves.
