Exploring the Century-Old Pharmacy at Zhuge Village

During this visit to Zhuge Bagua Village, I saved the latter part of the trip for Tianyi Hall. Compared to the strong photo-op vibes of the Bell Pool and Ancestral Hall, Tianyi Hall is better suited for slowly soaking in the village’s rich cultural life. The pharmacy, courtyards, alleys, and elevated viewpoints are all concentrated in this area, making the stroll layered and engaging. Highlights: Tianyi Hall is a very representative century-old pharmacy in the village. As soon as you enter, you can feel the steady and calm aura of the old medicine shop. Wooden medicine cabinets, old doors and windows, stone-paved paths, and the play of light and shadow in the courtyards make this place feel less like a typical tourist spot and more like an old space still bearing traces of daily life. An even bigger surprise is the nearby high vantage point, which offers a panoramic view of the village’s gray-tiled roofs and alley layout—perfect for capturing the “ancient village panorama” feel. Photo Spots: The entrance of Tianyi Hall is ideal for capturing the “old pharmacy” atmosphere. Standing slightly to the side at the doorway allows you to include the wooden door, stone steps, and gray tile eaves in the frame. Inside the pharmacy, you can photograph the medicine cabinets and wooden beams, using natural light to create depth and a storytelling effect. The elevated viewing spot is a must-visit; shooting downward at the gray tile roofs and winding alleys creates the most memorable shots in this area. Tips to Avoid Pitfalls: Don’t just follow the navigation points; the small alleys around Tianyi Hall are also great to explore. If you want to shoot from the high vantage point, pay attention to the signposts and stone steps so you don’t miss the viewing spot. The lighting inside the pharmacy tends to be dim around noon, so it’s recommended to visit in the afternoon or evening when the light is softer.
