Lintao, Gansu: A Potential Travel Gem for a Self-Drive Day Tour with Five Highlights

Lintao, a county under the jurisdiction of Dingxi City in Gansu Province, is quite low-key in terms of travel fame, but historically, Lintao was a famous town in the northwest and a strategic stronghold in Longyou, with Didao County established here during the Warring States period. Highlight 1: Majiayao Village & Majiayao Site (Pictures 1, 2, 3) The birthplace of the important Neolithic artifacts - Majiayao painted pottery, which we have seen in many provincial museums, is located in Majiayao Village, Lintao County. Upon arrival, we found that the Majiayao Site, as the original discovery and naming site of the Majiayao culture, is under tourism development. Although the site currently lacks highlights, the village is decorated with the richly patterned Majiayao painted pottery on building walls and shop shutter doors. Walking through this important cultural discovery site of the late Neolithic period, one is filled with mixed emotions. Strolling along the riverside walkway, one can appreciate the new look of this downstream county town on the Tao River. 📍Address: Inside Lintao County Highlight 4: Diaochan Lake (Pictures 7, 8) It is said that Diaochan, a famous beauty from the Three Kingdoms period, originated from Lintao, and the park is named after her. Originally an ordinary city park, a walk around the lake allows one to feel the slow pace of life of the people of Lintao, an atmosphere generally lacking in big cities. 📍Address: Taoyang Town 📱Navigation: Set 'Diaochan Lake Park' Highlight 5: Sumugou Grand Canyon This is a hidden paradise of beautiful scenery on the outskirts of Lintao County, consisting of a grand canyon formed by the magnificent karst & Danxia landforms. Although one can see signs for the scenic area while driving on the road, it is still under development, and few visitors come here. After our exploration, we found that there are more than one viewing spot in Hongqi Township and Manping Village, with accessible roads, and one can see the grandeur of the canyon without having to venture deep into it. 📍Address: Sumugou Village, Hongqi Township, Lintao County 📱Navigation: Set 'Sumugou', 'Manping Village', or 'Hongqi Township' 🛣️Road Conditions: The two spots we found in Hongqi Township and Manping Village allow for a close view of the canyon, and the X361 road offers a distant view of the canyon with good road conditions, suitable for sedans.
