The 'Pride of Industry' in the Southwest, revisiting the glorious history of Liuzhou's industry

Liuzhou is a microcosm of China's modern industrialization process. Once popular products such as Shuangma fans, Dole refrigerators, Liangmianzhen toothpaste, Jinsangzi lozenges, and Baojun automobiles, all originated from Liuzhou. The bamboo and wood industry (late Ming Dynasty) was one of the earliest crafts in Liuzhou. As early as the Tang and Song dynasties, Liuzhou's textile industry was quite famous. During the Song Dynasty, Liuzhou cloth was favored by merchants from all over. As early as the Ming Dynasty, there were iron mining sites in Rongxian, Liuzhou. During the Yongzheng reign, Liuzhou was already capable of mass-producing bird guns and waist knives for military use. In modern times, the people of Liuzhou have been industrious and dedicated to their country, nurturing a brilliant industrial culture and sowing the seeds of industrial development. After the founding of New China, the people of Liuzhou were enlightened and open-minded, daring to be pioneers, initiating the construction of a new industrial city, forming a modern industrial system, and laying a solid industrial foundation. In the early 1960s, in response to the increasingly severe international situation, China decided to build a complete national defense industrial strategic rear base in the southwest and northwest regions, commonly known as the 'Third Front' construction. Guangxi, following the site selection principles of 'relying on mountains, dispersion, and concealment,' built a number of military, electronics, shipbuilding, aerospace 'Third Front' factories, and military mobilization production lines, and also organized a large-scale production and construction campaign. To this day, the achievements of this 'Third Front' construction still play an important role in China's national defense and economic construction. After the reform and opening up, the people of Liuzhou have been innovative and entrepreneurial, constantly striving to become stronger, driving economic upgrading and urban transformation, achieving industrial leapfrogging and continuous improvement of the ecological environment.
