Umbrella Village

Situated less than 10 miles from Chiang Mai just off the 1006 carriageway is the small village of Borsang otherwise affectionately known as the umbrella village. Upon arrival via directions from Google maps we ended up in a small market selling various items but very little in the way of umbrellas. After a quick check again on Google maps we realised that there the umbrella making centre was just across the road. As an engineer I found the whole process fascinating from the construction to the accuracy with which the umbrellas are made and was blown away with the skill and craftsmanship of the men and women who were demonstrating how the various items were made. I loved it!!
